I am thankful that Shinji started CR and gave us a choice. Everyone who doesn't agree with what he is doing are free to leave. They have other places and resources for downloading whatever they want.

Whereas the rest of us that stay are going to have access to quality, easily-accessible, affordable, and legal anime.

lol accessiblle for hu???? europa....asia.....il move to africa but even ther its block :XXX

so that's whats been happening...i was wondering why the MVs and dramas were removed...so user uploads are not allowed anymore? 'has to be from official publishers' it makes CR a bit boring......alright...i guess its okay....hope it wouldn't affect us too much.

still, I'm expecting improvements and i'm sure shinji won't let us down.
keep up the good work

I only have one complaint about the new video policy - the fact that NO music videos can be uploaded AT ALL.

Because, in all honesty, there aren't any companies that post MVs/PVs and lives ANYWHERE, not YouTube, Veoh or any video streaming site.

I think that users should be able to upload music videos and lives because that TRULY is the only way we're going to get them. I agree with the restrictions on anime and shows, they're something that can be gotten onto CR in another way, but WE CAN'T GET MUSIC ANOTHER WAY.

Please Shinji, make music an exception!

I've been here a while and have enjoyed CR up until this point. Here is what I liked: the browsability of the index, the decent quality streaming videos, and the sheer volume and variety of media that is by and large unavailable to me elsewhere. (Well, I suppose I could look harder, but CR was just nice and convenient.) Anime is great. I started out watching anime on CR. But, I soon discovered interesting dramas and movies. That's what has kept me coming back, the non-mainstream and older stuff.

As far as I can see, going legal has reduced the volume and variety of media that I liked to a small list of mostly anime with a few dramas (and one manga?). I looked through the list of available stuff and have to say there are only two, maybe three things that I might consider watching if I'm really bored. What CR is currently offering legally is not interesting to me. I'll check back once in a while to see if the list grows, but from the looks of things it could take a while.

The video quality hasn't gone down - I'm not terribly picky about that anyway. So, on to browsability. The titles are still there, but there are no video links inside. I find it annoying to click on a title thinking 'this might be nice to watch' only to find there's nothing there. Here's a suggestion: have some kind of marking on the indexed titles to show whether it's available or not. Then I don't have to bother clicking on the link just to get disappointed. Or, just remove the index titles of everything that's not publisher-provided since we can't watch them anyway. Don't make it look like CR is offering what they're not. Of course, that wouldn't be a very large index, then, would it? But at least it would show what CR has become.

To summarise, I don't particularly find CR appealing at the moment. Perhaps after a period of transitioning, things will be better in a new and different way. We'll see, otherwise there may not be anything worth wasting my time on here.

On the issue of fansubs: Without fansubs there wouldn't be a overseas market for anime. It seems to me that the production companies don't quite understand their market yet. People don't want poor quality dubs. They want good quality subs. People are willing to pay for good quality subs (especially with extras) and for related merchandise. Cracking down hard on fansubbing without immediate and equivalent replacement either drives people away or further underground.

Well, I think I'll stop now. I came back to CR to finish watching 'Fires on the Plain' only to find it removed. Further investigation led me into getting sucked into this discussion. I'll look for my movie elsewhere. Bye.

i dont think most ppl realize that the whole "hi definition" "1080P" stream bullshit is a scam........... even if the streams are "hi def" very few, like 1 10'th of 1% of ppl have a hi def computer monitor thats capable of displaying 1080p streams AT 1080p.....if even that..... if you have an lcd that at most, i say this in a general account... you will get 720p at most... dnt get me wrong, and i know this may confuse ppl, but, even if your monitor is 1080p you have to take into consideration your computer and fx card...

ok back to my post.....i once paid for cr awhile back cuz at the time it offered h264 streams of most its videos for premium members....

well... today nearly all FREE streasming sites vids are h264....

on my pc a "paid for" "hi def stream" on cr is no better then a free full screen stream fansub from say veoh or megavideo....

all these big words about "high def" and the like only confuse ppl and trick them into paying for it like on CR how it is now...

i for one am not gonna pay cr money for a high def stream of naruto which i watched 2 years ago in hi def from a fan sub, which was better quality....

I understand and appreciate what's been done to the site, but unless this regional lock is properly sorted out (since I live in the Philippines), I won't have the confidence to subscribe due to the risk of a lot of shows not being available here.

Why would you subscribe to something you can't watch? o_o; Well, if they get enough business from USA, then the outside region issue won't really bother them.

The Philippines could be the worst for region blocking (outside Japan of course, but there the shows are on broadcast TV) ... it has a broadcast station that buys some rights, and of course the rights last a lot longer than the broadcasts, its in Animax Asia - Southeast Asia, which has some rights for all of Southeast Asia, and I saw some shows with Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan all blocked, so there is some other rights holder that buys rights for most of the DVD Region3 countries in a single block.

Any legit site will have region blocking, but the best hope for the Philippines is probably for people to convince existing rights holders to use Crunchyroll, since the set-up is already here. If Animax Southeast Asia or the Filipino broadcast station were using CR, that would mean more anime available to Filipino users in particular, or R3 users in general.

Of course, to do that take people writing the rights holders for the Philippines or blocks of countries including the Philippines.

If it worked, of course for some anime the shoe would be on the other foot ... people here in the US and R1 would be blocked for some anime that Filipinos and users in R3 were allowed to watch.
