for the mainstream stuff definitely, but there is a lot of lesser known stuff thats awesome still coming out of the us, you just have to know what youre looking for. muich like when you look at other countrys, japan for example, if you looked at mainstream japanese music you would think its all horrible j-pop etc but if you dig deeper there is good stuff to be found (start with dj krush)

Yes and no.
I don't really see American music as music. It's more like something you make money out of. Today the music lacks message and meaning.
Every song is about the same thing, women's independency without men, love, love, love, sex and alcohol. That's pretty much it.

I agree with you! Although I do like asian music (korean and japanese most of the time) just as much as American music. Ive also noticed alot of people here bash American music and put Asian music on this high platform when they dont know that many J-rockers (for example) are heavily influenced and inspired by American bands from the 80s and decades before that. People need to be educated before they open their mouths

Anyway i wont say that American music sucks cuz that would be foolish of me, I'd say that most of the mainstream garbage we're being bombarded with everyday sucks. I'd say the first thing to do In order to find some good, decent music you gotta turn off your tv and your radio and start exploring

The only American music I listen to is underground hip hop and rap and in that category, it definitely does NOT lack talent and originality. They influence various hip hop music from all around the world. I am pretty sure that America STARTED hip hop/rap. I don't mean to bash on (insert ANY country here)'s hiphop music but I know they followed the American hiphop trend and added their own cultural flare through their use of instruments, beats, and lyrics. I don't hate them for it; I actually enjoy the collaboration of American hip hop artists and some of the other countries' hip hop artists.

I don't think America's music specifically lacks talent, I think 99% of all music post-2000 mainstream music lacks talent. Sorry, but I'm not into the whole "emo" and "hiphop" genres that are so popular nowadays. Hell, mainstream today is a disgrace to artists in the past who laid the foundation for emo and hiphop music.

No, American music does not lack talent and originality. If American music is not original, then what country HAS original music nowadays? I find that there is a parallel between UK bands and American bands.

Most English bands these days sound like American bands. I mean, if you listen to Bullet for my Valentine, Coldplay, or People in Planes (all bands from the UK), some might mistaken them for American bands because both locations listen to music of the same style. To say that UK bands are better than American bands when it comes to talent and originality is crazy.

I don't think any country's music is truly original unless the country is completely sealed off from the rest of the world. There is this great cultural exchange going on in terms of both lifestyle and music. For example, I am sure that techno did not arise independently in separate parts of the world.

Yes and no. It depends on what and who you're listening to.

America has loads of talented artists. Some are bad, some are good. There's good music all over the world. One country does not have superiority over another country when it comes to music.

If you want to find good music, you gotta look hard and good. There are definitely many talented musical artists in America.

And mainstream sucks. OF COURSE you're not going to find anything good in mainstream music, especially since it's all about rapping the same ol' provocative shit with bland beats and wetting your pants over boy bands who pretend to be rockers (AKA JONAS BROTHERS).
