duh i think so as well ,i mean like i've seen like to many animes that a random guy is surrounded by girls ,more like a harem even thew the guy is a loser ,oh and did i mention big boobs ? duh they are everywhere ,same situations happen in anime i don't know why people couldn't have more originality when making their work ,beats me ,but this isn't the only example ,there are lots more but i don't wish to talk about them right now (magical girls ,nekomini etc.)

i am not kidding. have you ever had deja vu when watching an anime? like youve seen it somewhere before? believe me, you HAVE! why? because a lot of animes have a lot of the same themes.

for example: ever heard of an anime where the boy is weak and bullied....then he finds something he can do so good that others end up looking up to him. then he ends up mastering that particular field of whatever hes doing? yeah i can name three animes from the top of my head that have that exact theme

1) Naruto
2) History's strongest disciple kenichi
3)Whistle!

I DARE YOU TO TELL ME THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!

but what gets me most is.....why? why repeat the exact theme over and over again? cant they think up something else? so.....WHAT ANIME THEME IS MOST NOTICABLE TO YOU GUYS?!

Yeah... main character that started out weak ...becoming stronger as series progress... until he became almost unbeatable...
... like 1.Hitman REBORN
2.Eyeshield 21
3.Rosario+Vampire....
but not as bad as like having a deja vu....

Well I suppose since I have been "dared" I must try to come up with an example...

I know that we all understand that originality is difficult - since all the larger themes have been played out, re-done and played with to no apparent end - and since it is harder still to create new ideas that do not reflect those of past ones, people tend to fall back on others for inspiration. Some even outright copy original works; and while imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it still does not make an artist.

It is because of this that I can only think of a few Anime's which seem original in their themes to me. Please correct me if I am wrong and give an example to relate to, ok? OH!, and I am not going to use Anime Movies either.

To start with, I thought Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito was very original. The entire series was focused on one person and her search for the one she loved. Though it had a great many twists in the story, I thought it turned out quite well (though disappointing in the end) and have yet to find another series to compare it to.

Second, the "Ef" series. Ef - A Tale of Memories and Ef - A Tale of Melodies. Both I thought were highly original both in themes as well as animation and style. Although, they are also very sad, their stories progress in so many directions it is hard to keep up at times if your not very perceptive. Yet, in the end, they all come down to a common end that seems to relate to the series as an entirety.

Next would be Gintama. Although it technically does have a background story, it has absolutely no story line that stays consistent from episode to episode all the way through, or even one that remotely runs towards an end goal. This makes it hard to determine exactly what the theme of the series actually is.

Lastly, we will go for one that is older... Zettai Shonen. Just what was that suppost to be anyway? I cant even think of a theme for it other than that of someone reflecting on their past in order to live for today... maybe? Although, it was a long time ago when I saw the show... OH!!! and what about Spice and Wolf?! WTF!!!! RIGHT!!! I mean seriously! (or MAJIDE!) Although I LOVED the show, it was not what I expected at all! I was hoping for a kick ass anime and instead got a lesson in Micro Economics?!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!

Now, as for the most common themes... I really like Slice of Life animes, so I will go with things like Lucky Star (had to say that one first), Minami-Ke, Azumanga Daioh and even Ichigo Mashimaro, all of which were very funny.

I think people are just running out of ideas. you should see how many shojo manga is all the same plot and almost the same characters along with it. their so predictable. i wish someone would come up with something no so cheesey and predictable that it make you want to rot.

Let me tell you this, originality in Anime in this time of age is almost impossible ... The only Anime I have seen so far that ACTUALLY shows originality would be Library Wars (there's probably more, but I can't remember them at the momment)...

Taking things from others Animes is okay as long as you make it unique in your own special way. Although a fair amount of Anime fails to do it properly .

yup LIBRARY WARS is AWESOME!!!
