CR announced they will only allow official publisher uploads, meaning no more users uploaded fansubs are allowed. This also means they will remove all past and present unauthorized uploads. They currently have over 25 plus publishers support with 130 titles coming January. CR seems to be working on being more legit for longevity of the site. However will this means much of the Anime, Drama, Music, and other media will disappear too unless publishers approve their showing? Will CR eventually become no more than one of those rating and news sites with some media available or will CR grow to be something more? Do you think this is a good move for CR?

Yes.
I'm extremely upset that a lot of my favorite videos are going to disappear since they're all user-uploaded but with this change, I think we'll get better quality videos. We'll also, hopefully, get them faster since CR will receive them just about the same time they're being aired in its original country.

I just hope that in the later years, when CR becomes significantly powerful, we won't have to pay to watch what is on here.

50-50.
1: Being an authorised outlet for content there is little danger of them getting nuked by a legal team <positive>
2: Great older series that were never picked up outside japan or titles publishers allowed the rights to lapse on will dissapear, user generated content is greatly reduced, the site becomes yet another corporate tool. Whatever corporate wants, corporate gets. <heavy negative>

My firm opinion is that it should be a combination of the above. Yes, sign on authorised series, cull obvious infringement, implement strict upoad screening.. but permit users to upload. to do otherwise is to damn titles off of vhs/laserdisc to oblivion and eventually limit user interaction solely to company approved media. your favorite series is under a competing label? tough!

whatever
