In movies, music, sports or in some kind of spot light in america?

seriously granted there is yao ming who plays basketball but other than that you rarely see asian people in "real movies" granted there is Jackie Chan, and Jet Li. but they're always doing martial art type movies things asian people have become associated with. aka (stereotype) I have never seen an asian american movie that delt with everyday issues, romance, comedy ect. and I was wondering why is that. ( I know that there is joy luck club but thats besides the point)

you never see them in music, and like mentioned early other the mr. ming you don't see them in sports.

and even if there are no explination, express anything!

remember this is in AMERICA ONLY.

y dont they show indians in movies? Or how bout canadians...or mexicans? They are all stereotyped. You can't expect them to do everything now can u?

actually your wrong about canadians and mexicans..

Canadian Actors:
Mike Myers - Austin Powers, Shrek
Keanu Reeves- Matrix
Jim Carey

Mexican Actors:
Jessica Alba
Jennifer Lopez (duh)
Eva Longoria
George Lopez

now i really haven't seen indian actors..

lawl, u realize icould pull out the same amount of asian actors as u did with canadian and mexican actors?

that's really besides the point isn't it. . ? >_<

well thats wat u asked isnt it? Same spotlight as white actors and mexican actors in america? Besides, The candaian actors u listed are people that I dont even no and they dont have the same spot light as american actors. Sure they have been in 1 or two big movies but thats about it. Also the mexican ones, those aren't really actorrs in the same spolt light. I have never seen Jessica Alba in a movie nor George lopez in a movie >.>.

Their are very few asians in movies and films but they usually play stereotypical roles that don't really represent the majority of asian americans living in the US. I mean take one of the most popular asian actors right now in the US from Heroes. He plays a smart nerdy kinda charactor with broken english. Also asian girls are portrayed as submissive and exotic looking, and they always happen to make the white guy get the asian girl. I could name alot of movies where this happens alot. What many people don't realize is their is actually alot of asians who work in the movie and entertainment industries in america.(I'm talking about photographers, graphic designers, video/film production, action stunt cordinators, wardrobe designer, etc..) Alot of asians work with them and help make american movies. Theirs just not many asian americans who persue an acting career. Not to mention most of the film writers are caucasion.

I know right. But I'm starting to feel that its slowly starting to change though. I did see a recent movie called like the 5th Comandment or something, and they actually made the asian guy get the girl, but she was hispanic though! LOL, But of course he just had to know martial arts too.haha. I just wish they can showcast and air movies and dramas from asia in the US though. So people can get epose to other cultures you know what I mean? I hate the stereotypical roles asians are portrayed as in the american media.

I think this is becuase of the affect it would make. Some of it has something to do with racism, but not all. Sometimes it's just pride in their work (no racism included). As in, if you saw The Mummy movie on that Chinese warlord person, I have to say, when the Chinese lady was reciting a spell in english, it just killed the scene. I mean it's an ancient "spell" of the Chinese and she is saying it in english? I'm not trying to diss the Asians even though i'm Asian.

Also "The Forbidden Kingdom" movie? The whole movie was great....if only that english kid was gone. I mean c'mon, it's a war story about Chinese and then you have this American kid in it that forces all the other characters to speak in english? And then you got the main lady character getting it on with the American? It had potential as a Chinese movie.

You forget Yi Jiang Liang on the New Jersey Nets who really sucks and shouldn't be getting as many votes for the all star team. Honestly this guy has more votes than Chris Bosh. Go figure, Chinese people honestly being Chinese myself i feel disgraced.
