Ppl have many perspectives for these ppl because one theres mild, regular and extreme otakus. Unlike us they have a strong apeal for anime/manga. Which means they buy alot of animes/mangas or anything realating to them. All im saying since im a cheap Donkey i dont spend alot on these things. Maybe these Otakus deserve some respect. Its really up to them to be who they want to be like or not.

MY MAIN POINT THEY SPEND MONEY WE DONT SHOULD THEY DESERVE SOME RESPECT....YOUR OPINIONS?

An extremely negative Japanese term, referring to a shut-in or someone with no social life. It also implies that the person's entire life is molded around fictional characters (usually anime and manga).
In America, the term has been embraced by anime fans, who (as they do with many Japanese words), use the word incorrectly as a positive term for fanboy/girl.

there you go

So are you asking if someone is deserving of more respect if they are willing to spend money on anime/manga and merchandise? Well to a certain extent, if they are willing to spend more money, then that means that they are dedicated to the series. If you didn't like the series, then you obviously wouldn't be willing to put any money into it.

On the other hand though, not all otakus have very much money. And just because you can't afford to buy a bunch of dvds, and figurines and the like, doesn't mean that you like the series less. So monetary investment implies dedication, but dedication does not require monetary investment.

I think the mark of a great fan is how much time they put into their dedication. People who spend hours on forums, talking about their favorite series, write fanfiction, or draw fanart. The people who create fansites, and go to conventions, and dress up as their favorite characters. If they are truly a great fan, they they are willing to invest much time and thought into their fandom. Anyone can spend money, but time is often a much greater sacrifice.

of course they deserve respect, they are still people, but have different aspects in life. Different lifestyle. Sometimes I I'm one of those otakus.

They do deserve respect. They know how to run their lives and they actually live it the way they want. They do what they like openly, unlike some people who are too insecure to do so.

i think that being a highly dedicated fan is different from being an otaku. .

highly dedicated fans can go to conventions, buy lots of manga and things that are related to anime, but they still maintain their social lives, they still go out with their friends, etc. .while otakus are unsociable because they shut themselves down and avoid anything that's not of their interest which is definitely a negative thing. .

should we respect them?. .well, i think that its ultimately up to the otakus themselves. .if they show respect to us, then we should show them respect as well. .but if they don't, then we shouldn't either. .

o_O i don't think they deserve more respect than normal people...
but i don't they should be looked down upon just because they are willing to spend money on things they like. (and being a little crazy)

about the unsocial part...well, it's up to them to choose. but being a complete shut-in is taking it a bit far (on my scale)

Well it's their life and if that's how they roll then let them 'otakus' do what they do best. They'll grow out of it...someday....
