they do deserve respect .. after all their human.. were the leechers here.. they do mostly of the works from doujin to other forms of media... though not all of them exert effort i think some of them do... thanks to them i can download other rare materials these days from music to video's ..

not all people think highly of them.. but if you look in a different perspective.. those people have strong sense of dedication and effort .. and i dont have those lolz ..

but too bad some of them dont know what limit means.. i just leave that to them but for now i believe they do deserve respect

Exactly, it's because of these people that we get to enjoy the anime we do. A fansubber is sort of an uber-otaku.

true true but everyone eventually gets obsessed with something in their life, at least this is benifical to people instead of kids who become obsessed with rocks or bugs of killing. big leap i know but still, killings bad.

Well not all otakus do things that are beneficial. Those people that cosplay, aren't really helping the community, but they are definitely hardcore otaku.

Most people who watch anime are Otakus. NOTICE, "MOST", which is like SOME, not all.

This should be in Extended Discussion. XD

I guess they deserve respect by some but they shouldn't from others... I'm not making any sense....

Good point. Okay then, so unless the otaku is just watching the series over and over (which in and of itself I don't think makes you otaku) then they are being beneficial, by pumping money into the anime industry, so it can continue, or contributing to the community with doujins, or the like.

Plus, its because of these people that buy so many dvds and such that the companies care about what we want from our dvds, and anime on tv. They may be a minority, but they are a minority willing to spend lots of money, so the companies are forced to listen to them.

Someone should make a quiz to determine whether you are an otaku or not. If you choose to identify yourself as such, then I'm probably not going to disagree with you. Probably. But then there are people that won't accept that identification, but I would still call them that. Since I tend to disagree with other people's quizzes, I will have to make my own.

I don't think there could be an accurate quiz to determine whether or not you're an Otaku. All they can really ask is trivia, and with the sheer volume of material, it's possible to have spent your entire life watching anime and have nver seen or heard of the ones they ask questions about.
