Zero is self destructive. You really can't blame Yuki completely for the outcome... He had his chance to be straight with her but every time he couldn't bring himself to because he hates himself and doesn't want to burden her.

Someone who want's to kill you doesn't love you.... just so everybody knows that. It's only poetic on one level. Yeah, it's "releasing her from a 'curse'" but at the same time what's wrong with being a Vampire? Ya they aren't like humans, but does that make them wrong for existing?

Though any way you look at it Zero is a tragic character. =\

he said he'll kill yuuki because he wants her to leave..he doesnt want to see her again because it will only hurt him..

If you go by the manga (which I'll call true cannon) then that's surely not the case. I think the manga handles his wanting to kill her in a more heartfelt way...

Says Yuuki.

In general I think the manga is better than the anime...

Interesting. Seems like there's many different meanings to the word.. Not surprising.

yeah! it has different meanings..

and if you'll add "ko" to the word "rei", it will also make a different meaning..

rei- means beautiful
ko- means child

if you'll combine the words, it will become "beautiful child".. ahahaha

1. The different meanings for 'Rei' purely derive from the Kanji you're using. This happens a lot in Japanese.

Some kanji and translations for 'Rei':
霊 Soul, Ghost
例 Example
零 Zero
礼 Bow, Salute

I don't remember it ever meaning beautiful, but it could very well be possible. Like, a short of version of 'kirei' or something. ^_^

2. As someone touched upon earlier, I honestly think it has to do with the fact that Zero and Ichiru are twins. However, I think it's in reverse - Zero is supposed to be the main one (he's the oldest twin, last time I checked, so Ichiru would be second to him); so he would get the number that is both considered infinite and original. 0 not only represents infinity (it signifies a continuous loop), but it's also the very first number (not historically, though, if memory serves me correctly) - it's literally the beginning of everything. Every time it appears, a new set of numbers begin. Zero is the first child, Ichiru is the second - Zero is called 0 because that's actually the first number and Ichiru is called 1 because he's the second number. Of course, why Hino-sensei didn't call Zero 'Ichiru' and Ichiru 'Ni' or something less ambiguous as their established names is anyone's guess.

Even though the number 0 is often overlooked, it's always there and it probably appears in more numbers more often than anything else. For instance, we tend to measure things like wealth by how many 0's you have coming after another number. Additionally, it's easily one of the most important numbers since it is thought of as a placeholder in many aspects - such as on a test, there is no real difference between a 1 or a 9; but there is a world of difference between a 10 and a 100. Zero's are quite powerful if we look at it.

Anyway, back to my point - I think the concept of 0 signifying infinity and originality has a very nice ring to it when applied to Zero. He's always 'evolving' and being deemed the first - he's the first born and to one of the elite hunter clans, and is also the first hunter-turned-vampire who has enough power to insta-kill a Pureblood vampire. Hell, he's the first Level D vampire to ever kill a Pureblood. Of course, we can just as easily say 0 means nothing - but the number 0 has hidden power (hence, why I used the example of 10 vs. 100); however, they have more of a 'support' type power. If we're simply looking at it from a number perspective, they're only significant if they're working with something else - alone, 0 is nothing (five 0's are still 0) but with other numbers, it has real meaning. This could even tie in to Zero being a protector of Yuuki and reluctant supporter of Kaname - if you really want to stretch it.

If you want to get really poetic about it, you could say that Zero is the embodiment of the perfect loop: he's both the beginning and ending of everything and nothing because loops have no ending or beginning; everything just blends - which is why he's always so torn and agonizing. When he's by himself, he's nothing, but with Yuuki and Kaname his life holds meaning again. And he continually goes through this pain because that's his fate being born Zero.

Also, I've never searched for the kanji used in Kiryuu, but there's an actual word in Japanese called 'kiryuu' and it means 'air current'. Since, I'm pretty sure that isn't the case though, I always thought it had something to do with dragons since one of the meanings of 'Ryuu' is dragon. Additionally, 'ki' could be 'tree', 'spirit', 'feeling', 'intention' - but the possible word combinations sort of make my head hurt lol But since his kanji was pointed out earlier, it's interesting that essentially, his name is Life Drill Zero - it's like a Superhero slogan lol
