I'm sure money plays a part in it, but I'm guessing that many series are short because they were adapted from games or manga (most likely series that only had a handful of volumes). I really have no idea, though. :/ Sorry.

I think the anime should be as long as it is needed to. If the story only needs to be told in 5 episodes then it should be told in 5 episodes not with 95 filler episodes. Most animes are being ruined because they have more episodes than needed and that way ends up losing the point with the story.

You must have pressed "Post Reply" way too many times! Although, it happens to me occasionally too.

I guess that only a few episodes can be brought forth from each volume, and mangas take really long to draw. So, most decide to make the series 13-26 episodes, since so many other series are about the same size.

Budgeting issues, manpower, client's contributions and confidence, time constraints yadda yadda. All these add up to the anime's quality and length. Sometimes, the shorter, the more addictive. Those make you look forward to sequels and more.

Having a really short anime also means that more ideas can be fully explored by the anime's characters and storyline. These allow really weird experimentations with new types of anime (for eg. first person narration, the most known work would be Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, then various others like Hayate no Gotoku!) to test for viewer's acceptance.

Also, there are many independent anime production companies around. Their resources are probably enough to last them a short series, that's why they usually pour lots of effort into a short piece that might get them a name in the market.

I think it's roughly 26 episodes for every 8 volumes.

money constraints and sometimes depends on plots and which direction the creators want to go with the story. no point dragging out a plot for, say for 26 eps when it can easily be wrapped up in half that amount.

i mean sometimes it's better for it to be short because some story plots would just get really boring if they drag it on for so.. long... it would get boring to watch.. and to just to the story.. thay probably keep it short..

oh yeah, and fruits basket [seemed] kinda short... even though it was like 24 episodes, but it seemed to have an abrupt ending, and the manga is still going on! sooo i hope someone (maybe the same director) could keep it going..er, have a sequel-ish to it.
and midori no hibi actually seemed kinda short too. but i dont know lol >>
