In my opinion Crunchyroll was better when it was young, being free of licenses and having anyone upload anything.
I mean, seriously, Shinji just BLEW it when he deleted all user-uploaded crap.
We put up with enough of that regional bullshit, now this?
Crunchyroll turned into shit so fast, and because of what? Well, companies, silly.
Look at what these companies have done, all this monopoly, control game, bullshit.

I remember when Crunchyroll was a fun and cozy place, back in 2006, where you could watch anime for free without worrying about shit like this happening. Now this feels like YouTube, controlled videos, uploads, shit like that.
This site has just lost all of it's value.
I may not be the most active member, or the guy with 99999 cr points, but I've been around here long enough to be a witness of this atrocious transformation.

I'm not going to blame companies, but on the other hand, how could Shinji let this happen?
This is no longer the Crunchyroll I loved.

That said, Debate. Do you agree or disagree? Was crunchyroll better? Why or why not?

I do have to agree that cr was somewhat better back then, but its starting to have changes that are slowly progressing with these big companies coming to cr we'll eventually have more anime to watch then it would somewhat back to normal except for the 1 week wait that non-anime members have to take.

Let's see the site has been here for about 2 years now. Its inevitable that it would change to stay on the net longer. If Shinji didn't get sponsered by these companies how much longer would cr survive until it would be shut down due to legal issues.

Yesshh, Pirated DVD's are scattered around here. Well, errr....you can find Pirated DVD's here the same as the original, so why bother to buy original DVD's?
Lucky you. No one wants to give me original DVD's.

Theres alot of points you've made.

Agreed, obviously crunchyroll was better before where everything can be viewed.
Disagree, it is not bullshit that companies restrict their video from being viewed by people without liscense.
Agree, crunchyroll lost its value.

Shinji let this happen otherwise he could be into legal issues.

Agreed. Although CR was "better" before, what with users being allowed to upload unlicensed anime, it was also illegal.

This site got a lot of flak before for not being legit, so CR's taking the next logical step: getting legal by removing all the unlicensed anime.

Smart move on their behalf.

People saying that Crunchyroll is the same as Youtube now...they are wrong....really wrong...

At least this site will stay on...and not get hit by legal actions.... I'm blaming the economy crisis that's happening around the world that caused companies to take even more serious actions against this.

Well...hope that on one faithful day, the Old Crunchyroll will be revived for good.

Well this debate doesn't sound so "friendly".

I think you're just bitter because you can't get everything you want anymore for free. Darn those legality issues. Companies having rights to their own products is just preposterous.

Really, there's already alot of threads like this.

I have to agree that CR used to me more cozy, but I still think that it's getting better in trems of streaming.
I think the coziness is lost, because now, there are alot more members, and they don't know how CR used to be and they're all getting confused with all this new copyright stuff. This has all been sudden shock to most of the new members, and some of the old already saw this coming.

People used to complain about Naruto, Bleach and all other famous animes being taken down due to licensing, but shinji is now giving them back to us. He has teamed up with some companies and gotten permission to stream their animes. Now I think we have to understand that those companies don't want other people to just sub their anime's and put 'em up for people to watch for free.
I also think that removing all the user/fan subbed/uploaded stuff will give a better impression to the companies, and will make them want to work with shinji, and crunchyroll.

Alot of animes will be taken down, but alot of new ones will be put up. And sometime soon, hopefully, companies will allow CR to stream all those animes that we loved. Shinji IS working on this. It's just not easy.

Members will leave CR, but new ones will come along. We don't HAVE to pay to watch videos, shinji has given us options like CR bucks and waiting for a couple of days.

As for CR turning into something like YouTube, I only think that's because they approve videos of members singing and stuff like that.

Well Licensing has evolved the past few years...
added with the crisis going around...
Its not a suprise that every video has been taken down.

Even though I thought they were going to on January 8th...lol
Or just do what the fansubbers say:
"Support the creator by buying the DVD when its released in your area" or something like that~
