Before we go any further, I think it is best for CR to fully EXPLAIN what is happening. I posted a thread for the support of the CR revolution in my group [which I proudly proclaim as the number one group in CR according to the unofficial rankings]. In the post, some of the members were saying something like, "Oh! That's what happened?" and so forth. I think we need a way to clear up the misunderstanding.

On the other hand, I have already taken action by explaining it to my group [Philippines Group]... Banzai to the future!

Personally, I think we just keep moving on. Before we do that though, we need to announce to people and explain to them FULLY what is going on and what is going to happen. (We've already explained what happened, but for some reason, alot of noobs tend to not read the crunchyroll news). I think we might have to explain in more "simple" terms.

Let 2009 be the beginning of Crunchyroll!

Shinji should focus on getting the rights from other countries first, while members like me should teach other *not so smart* anime watchers why the Anime videos disappeared. We can't just let them whine and spoil this revolution, it's a head start for a legal free online anime hub.

God Bless CrunchyRoll!

In my view, Shinji only really has to get rights to more anime, which of course has been handled very amazingly. Also allowing other people around the world to be able to watch the videos as well or to of course get a membership to watch in even better quality. That will be hard, mainly because of licensing issues for many of the other countries around the world. But so far, things have been amazing and I am sure it will keep going that way. I am excited to see what Crunchyroll will be able to see this year.

Just from a logistical point of view, it would be really helpful if there were listings of available anime/shows/content by region.

Now, I'm just randomly looking for my favorites and trying my luck at availability in my region, and am being disappointed time and again... i'll keep looking for now though!

A lot of the video comments and group postings I've seen in the last day or two lead me to think it would indeed be useful if there was a state-of-the-website kind of post, possibly in the form of a global notification or a website notification rather than just a news post. A lot of people seem to be confused as to why fansubbed content is being removed and there are some strange ideas about the regional lock-outs floating about, as well. I see a lot of people refer to the pricing scheme as "expensive", too, which it really isn't -- but it's probably hard for people to understand the business model, since it is pretty unique in terms of where the content originates from and how it gets distributed (i.e. separately from the actual licensor, where applicable).

I'd also like to me-too the idea above about a way to easily browse (or even filter) shows by regional availability. Links to video that I'm not legally allowed to view are of no interest to me, really. Something of this sort would also make it easier for a user to gauge the potential value of purchasing an Anime Membership (thus lessening the chance of someone feeling let down when they find they can't watch as many shows as they thought, a feeling that seems far too common on the forums right now).

Overall I think the new direction chosen for the site was the best choice anyone could've made. I appreciate fansubs as much as the next guy, but there's just no way they could compare to 720p simulcasts, and one can't over-emphasize the fact that it's all completely legal.

Yay! I was looking for a location to put up suggestions

Suggestions:

For the site:
1. Put up a banner on the pages that says "Where are the shows? Why can't you view some shows in your regions? Go here <link with all the explanation>", so that people can stop asking the same questions. Shinji should also have a link on his profile, the poor guy's guest book is flooded with 'what happened!!!' posts.

2. A link to buy the Anime Membership and find out about it, on the above toolbar or main page. Right now I can't find an easy way to go to the Anime Membership location other than to go to one of the Forum posts or a PM.

3. An explanation about the new Crunchyroll and what is great about it on the main page, so that new visitors to the site may know about crunchyroll and be encouraged to join in.

4. An index of shows currently available. This index will let people know that there are many shows still available

5. Another index which lists the shows that are on the current Anime index. Keep the profile of the shows no longer available. Allow members to post episode summaries, synopsis or reactions, in return for CR points (kind of make it like their blog page).

For the player:
1. Able to change the font style, size and color of the subtitles.

Others
1. Fix the regional restrictions. It is sad to see many people not being able to view their shows because of their location

Hehe...Thanks

I dont think that it should be all about Anime.
cos im sure the majority of others watch drama, music videos here.
So i think you guys can work out something with the publisher to do with music video and dramas.
Plus it'll be much easier if you guys can get the publisher to understand that fansubs are much easier and faster and is a positive affect for both us and the publisher. Plus its free ^^

All i wanted to get throught is that you guys shouldnt JUST focus on animes. Maybe im mistaken but you could at least give us information/update us about dramas, music videos etc.

Cos i've seen postes from sinji about this new concept, but he/she only talks about Anime.

We need a FULL explanation what will happen and the future plans for Crunchyroll.

I agree with you that there needs to be more attention given to dramas and asian music, but anime really is the main draw for most traffic. You should have seen the site traffic numbers radically decrease when naruto and bleach were pulled. Having Naruto Shippuden back is a huge deal and will likely increase traffic here a great deal.

I think the community here can be a misleading picture of site traffic. While the community indicates a more balanced ratio of anime fans to drama/music fans, I suspect a great deal of this sites traffic never participates in the community. I know several people who only watch anime on CR and never participate in the community.

Fansubs are problematic and I'm glad CR is pushing forward without them.

Fansubbers in recent years have been getting rather possessive of their subs and on more than one occasion told CR to take down shows with their subs. On top of this, no matter how you slice it, fansubbers distribute media without the consent of the original creators. That is technically illegal, though it is seldom ever enforced. Since CR is working directly with the animation studios now, it would make hosting unauthorized content rather awkward to say the least.

And there is always the question of the quality you're getting with a fansub. Sure the timing and font styles are much more visually appealing, but some of the translations are very questionable. That said, they're often no better than the US official translations.

I like the idea of control being put in the hands of the creators, which is why I'm growing fonder and fonder of CR working directly with the studios. Could anime studios approve fansubs and then post them here? I don't know, but it's an interesting idea. I think this may be a good option for more obscure shows, but I'm skeptical about animation studios being willing to work with them.

I'll also agree with you on the need for more information. Unless I'm grossly mistaken, there is no serious developers blog here (or anything comparable), just the condescending smiley laden posts on the main page. I think a more detailed blog showing what's going on behind the scenes would be fantastic. But I don't follow anime or CR like I used to, so they may be releasing more information than I'm aware of.

I think that they could get some drama/ comedy/ romantic korean or taiwaneise or japanese dramas, so that people that love this series like me would be attracted to this site ( and would get a membership, right? ).
And also I would suggest to bring back the Manga Section and if could also put some liscensed mangas like Kingdom of Hearts, and I think that's all 4 now! I hope that it can be some of help!!!
Bye!

I think Shinji should focus on getting permission for worldwide viewing at this moment because that's the biggest issue right now.
After that, he should get some more dramas (I only saw like....5 on the list >.>)

@nami0819
Hmm, I think asking to bring the manga section might be a bit much ^^"
The licensing issue is much more strict when it comes to manga (which was why the section was taken down so quickly)
If we're lucky we might get that section back although I think that should come last, after everything else has been settled.

what i think CR should do next are:

>ask permission to show licensed animes...
>make other animes available in all regions as much as possible ^^

and... oh yeah.... if it's ok to everyone not much of a bother, i wish shinji would bring back the manga section... and show licensed mangas too like card captor sakura and DNAngel... ehehehe....
