i thought making the anime available worldwide should be the first priority
but now i've changed my mind
i think the first thing CR needs to do now is stop the 'on-demand' streaming
now i can't pause the videos to let it loads fully before watching it without the video keeps getting stuck and buffering

Even I have the same problem! I don't have a fast connection, so I always watch on LQ. But now I have to load 5 sec of the video, watch and then load 5 sec again. It takes a while to load those 5secs and sometime in between it says "Video Connection Closed". Each show is 25 mins long, I can't sit on the computer for the hours it will take load 5 second fragments. Also, you can't go back to a previously loaded point.

After my initial hiccups with it last night, it all seems to be working okay for me today. Can even play it in Linux today (which I had trouble with getting any audio from it yesterday), which is what's on the box hooked up to my TV, so I can actually watch the stuff on the TV now. The 720p stream still "feels choppy". It looks a lot better with the 480p for some reason. Seems counterintuitive. I wouldn't blame it on my CPU, it's a Core 2 Duo, and it plays back 1080p stuff just fine from h.264 and divx.

I would encourage people to keep leaving feedback about how it's working, because it looks like they've been tweaking it pretty rapidly trying to get it to work better. It's certainly working better today than it was yesterday for me.

My only complaint is that because of the added DRM I have to quit out of MythTV and go run Firefox to watch stuff now, and that looks ugly on a TV (not to mention means I have to dig out a mouse and keyboard when I normally run the thing with a remote control). Before they added the DRM I could download the stream file and drop it onto the MythTV box and pick it from the UI. (And I hear some people used to use the same trick to get stuff on their iPods to watch on the train to work and so forth)

The only thing CR really needs at the moment are having Anime companies improving their subtitle quality (especially GONZO), adding more anime to Crunchyroll's archive, and fixing a few video bugs (I'm not the one experiencing it, but quite a fair amount of paying and/or non paying members are experiencing it).

By the way, I still need to find a part time job ...

Just read this over at Mania (the old anime on dvd)

Toei Animation Co., Ltd.¹s Mr. Kanji Kazahaya, Director of International Department, states, "we are excited and thrilled to be continuing our digital business developent with Crunchyroll. This is the new frontier for the anime industry and Crunchyroll is an ideal company to work with because of its international reach and strong community base."

"We are extremely pleased to be continuing our strong partnership with Toei Animation," states Mr. Kun Gao Crunchyroll CEO, "working with Toei Animation allows us to continue bringing great new and classic anime titles to a global audience, curbing piracy and becoming a catalyst to stimulate industry growth."

Most of the Toei stuff that's up so far is catalog material that's previously been actively marketed and probably has licenses in lots of places already. When stuff has existing licenses, they have to clear it with all of the license holders in a region before it can be streamed in that region. Some of those licensees are probably still stuck in the dark ages and not wanting to allow it yet (afraid it'll bite their own profits or something). I would take the above statements from Toei and CR as what the future will hold. Wait and see what happens with Toei's new releases. They'll probably have a provision for online streaming by other vendors built into the DVD and TV licenses on their new releases, and will probably even have the online streaming licenses (like with CR) in place first before those other licenses anyway.

The problem is some of these shows are 20 to 30 years old. Shows that haven't been licensed or where the licenses should have expired already. The original Galaxy Express 999 tv-show (which this press release was about) has only ever been licensed in France and Italy all the way back in the 80's for example.

More options to customize the profile, Like custom css or pre-made templates ready for edit
This way we could make our profile look better.

Stop this hypocrite Erehe along with his followers: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-437482/Anime-memberships-High-quality-and-Crap.html

And the sad thing is, after winning the trust from anime creators by streaming HD quality anime on CR, we of the anime fans who support 100% legitimacy are being flamed by those hypocrites.

Also, I'm sure that the decision of reducing the streaming quality was made by the anime creators themselves, after their trusts were violated by the CR users who ripped their works right off from CR.

I know that everyone mentions the whole regional thing but to be honest I think that this is what is hurting CR the most. Maybe I am repeating what everyone is saying but I think it is worth repeating. I mean I live in the Mid East and if it was not because most of the good anime is being blocked here I and many others here would be all over paying for membership. I would love to get the anime one hour after the raw showing but if I can not even get anime period then it is not worth it. Still I will be patient for now and support CR.
