I duno why were like that, I personally find it rather annoying. Its pointless, if someone is gonna steal her, he's gonna steal her, nothing you can do. So its really wasted effort. Being protective of a girlfriend would probally just annoy the girl too.
Pshh, if I had a girlfriend, and some guy tried to steal her away, I'd let him. And since I don't believe in stuff like love or true love, So I wouldn't really care if she got stolen anyway.

Personally me i do it out of love, i dont want anything happen to them and i want to keep them safe and dont want to lose them, i'd fight just to be with them i wont just let someone come and steal them away, me i would do anything to be with them even as far as walking across states, and i would do anything for them, anything, i do it out of love

not all guys are like that to their girlfriends but some are because they care about her and dont want her to be hurt, and the other end of the scale is they feel like they own them or summat i dunno but i think it depends on the person more than anything.
