^You aren't paying $60/year for just Naruto though, you're paying for ALL Crunchyroll hosted shows. This is actually quite a decent deal. Especially when you consider that a DVD with 4 episodes of Naruto on it would cost $16-25, depending on where you shop. That's quite a discount for 720p video.

My only complaint for the 'Anime Membership' is that it is streaming only. My ISP is very picky about bandwidth usage. I watch a lot of anime, and oftentimes I view each episode more than once. Sometimes I even re-watch entire series. If I have to stream EVERY episode each time I want to watch it, I will quickly hit my monthly bandwidth cap.

IMHO, paying customers should have the option to download (perhaps for an additional reasonable fee?). Some of us like to archive, after all All you really need is a disclaimer before each ep like Dattebayo has, warning against piracy. Or, perhaps paying members could be directed to a private tracker for downloading? Something not released to the community at large, tied to their method of payment, their ISP address, or their CR account. With precautions such as these in place, I tend to think identifying leakers would be pretty straightforward.

Well, with that out of the way, I have a gripe. Seeing "Naruto Shippuuden 221" and up totally throws me off. To be honest, I've been watching the DB release, and their naming scheme is simple and effective and ingrained. I'm perfectly willing to pay a subscription fee to watch my favorite anime, IMO, Naruto Shippuuden needs to start at Episode 1. :)

Thanks for listening.

A small question, where is the 720p that was promised on the preview?

Most old anime was not produced in HD, so it doesn't make sense to offer a 720p version of that content. Skip Beat has 720p, and the new Naruto Shippuden launching on Jan 8th will have 720p (as well as all subsequent episodes).

Why is it that most of the animes are only available in america? I hope shinji will come up with something to make the animes available anywhere soon.

Google "hide ip address" then pay for $/year and you'll see the anime you want wherever you are.

*ehem* I want crunchyroll. Got a problem with that? I have a list of anime sites I searched on google but..I don't know ...I think most of them are crappy. Not that i'm saying crunchyroll is the perfect anime site. It has its inadequacies too and I know that. But so far, it's the best anime site I know, except that right now, because of its current policy, I'm starting to get disappointed with it. When I made that post you quoted, at that time I was hoping Shinji would change his mind about the change he's done with the site. But right now, I finally feel enlightened. I finally understand that hoping is useless. See my other posts in that other thread entitled "Crunchyroll Revolution". Hmmm....but I doubt you'd even bother so never mind. I just hope you get the idea.

Yeah, and I was trying to solve your problem. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but you can hide your ip address in order to watch it in crunchyroll. There are softwares out there that can make the computer think that you're from America.

Episode 91 is aired on January 8th in Japan. Anime members will get to watch it in HD quality one hour after broadcast in Japan. All other users will still get to watch it for free, but after one week later.

sarcastically, thanks alot for making skip beat unavailable not only to japan but also to the rest of asia! huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu

by the way, for real, i still thank shinji & his team's effort for building this site and making it as legal as possible.......

that's why it's still a dilemma for most of us whether we should pity, thank or complain from these changes................there are more than just licensed anime involved here.......

K guys, as long as Shinji doesn't go changing his mind on the 8th, all shows listed http://www.crunchyroll.com/lineup as being 720p for Anime Members will, in fact, be in 720p. THIS STARTS ON THE 8TH!

Otherwise I'll tweak.

Naruto Shippuden Episodes 1 to 8 have just been launched! =D Edit: I stopped using the other numbering scheme since people were getting confused. We will be launching 8 old episodes and 1 simulcast (the newest episode) every week from now on. Naruto is available worldwide except Japan and France.

Naruto Simulcast (the newest episode, #91) will launch on January 8th for Anime Members in High Definition and January 15th for everyone else in standard definition. Anime Members will always get to watch simulcast anime shows earlier, and in High Definition when available. For more details, I'll have a full release calendar ready by next week.

We've also launched a bunch of other shows, and will continue to add more and more each day, so check back often =D Here's some of the others we've released today:

Gintama
Eyeshield 21
Skip Beat!
Shugo Chara
Dear Boys
Chrono Crusade
Neo Angelique Abyss

We also have a bunch of simulcast next week! You can watch the latest Gintama, Shugo Chara, Skip Beat, Natsume Yujincho, Web Ghosts PiPoPa, Linebarrels of Iron, Tower of Druaga -the Sword of Uruk-, and more, right when it is broadcast in Japan... and only here on Crunchyroll!

Most of these shows will be soft-subtitled in English when it launches. Remember, we try extremely hard to get worldwide broadcast rights for these shows, but often times it gets really complicated, so unfortunately we can't show it in your region. For region details, check out our January lineup.

Crunchyroll is now one of the few places online to watch anime legitimately - if you have to watch something, please do it on Crunchyroll to support the anime industry. Only with your support can they keep making more anime! Thanks for all your support, and long live cr!

How about bringing the animes in CR that are not even licensed by any companies out there?

Can someone upload Time Travel Tondekeman!?

So what's so damned special about Naruto that you won't let plugins like downloadhelper rip it, when it works fine on the entire rest of your site?

I'm 33 and I watch my anime on a mediaPC hooked up to my flatscreen, cause I don't feel like squinting at anime. The mediaPC sadly doesn't have the horsepower to decode flash video and put it up fullscreen at the same time, cause it is a discrete quiet little box. I like to download the anime and watch it with mplayer or VLC which have a lot less overhead and can handily display 720P anime in full screen without stutters or artifacts. I feel like I should be able to do what I like with the extra content I'm paying for!

Just to be technical, you're paying for the right to stream, not the right to download. It's the difference between subscribing to HBO vs. buying The Sopranos on DVD. I agree that direct downloads are much more convenient to deal with, but whats to prevent people from just turning around and bittorrenting them? I don't think that would make TV Tokyo, Gonzo, etc. very happy at all...

I could use a mediaPC or DVR to record off of HBO and watch in various formats as well. The majority of the videos on this site can already be downloaded, as they don't use whatever new flash trick Crunchyroll is using on their latest releases. I guess I'm just disappointed because this greatly impacts my ability to watch the show in an enjoyable manner. Realistically there isn't much difference between streaming and downloading at any rate, it's just a matter of what the computer does with the data after you're done pulling it. I'm not even interested in keeping it after I'm done watching, but hey, if I could buy the episodes for $1.99 each, I probably would.

You know as well as I it will only be a matter of days before someone rips the new content from here and puts it on bittorrent anyway.
