Someday I'd love to promote Christian Japanese music groups, but that probably won't be till I'm older, am fluent in Japanese, and when I'm actually there. But I haven't actually ever listened to any Japanese Christian bands, probably since so few Japanese are Christian, something I hope to change in the future.

i totally agree with you on that note because it's my aim and future dream to travel to Japan and I'm thinking of how I could like tell people about the Gospel with my background knowldege, as it won't be fair on me for coming to a foreign country and not teaching them about my faith in depth. So, what you said is a really cool and impacting idea.

I'm happy that there are those who seek Christ in Japanese music especially here on Crunchyroll.
Christianity in Japan is only 1% of the population, since most are Shinto, Buddhists, and also Atheists.
I will pray that Christ reaches most of Japan and most of the world one day.
There are many Christian Shintos now. It's a combined faith but mainly in Christ.
I myself am Christian Zen-Buddhist.
Taro Kaji is a good Christian artist.
I hope there are more in the future and eventually find it's way to Japanese anime. I hope there will be Christian themed animes one day too.

That's nonsense, I hope that Christianity dies out in Japan after about a century ... may Japan be the Japan we all know, not another fanatic filled nation ... Buddhism & Shinto is a much more respected religion than Christianity

Wow... out of this entire thread, you are the only one to be disrespectful, yet you speak of respect.
Christianity won't change Japan into whatever you think it may be, "a fanatic filled nation".
Christianity is the world's largest religion at 1.5 - 2.2 billion people. We make up quarter to a third of today's population.

Don't get me wrong I am a Christian, and even I have heard Christian Jpop (Soulhead is my fav), but remember that each religion is unique, and You can't put one religion in front of another, and tell that it's better

... God bless You

What kind of a Christian would want Christianity to die out in Japan? In the Bible, there is what is called the great commission and it is for all Christians; Matthew 28:16-20 "Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." When we Christians share the Gospel/the Word of God, we are not forcing them to convert but rather it is the consent and choice of the person whether or not to become a Christian by means of accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Saviour. True, I respect each religion but it is our duty as Christians to share the Gospel to everyone. I think it was wrong for the person to say that Christianity is better, since there is no blessing in pride and condescend on others' religion. To me, what I have is not a religion but rather a personal relationship and that is with the Lord Jesus Christ, this is called Salvation in which Christ inhabits within your heart forever.

Please don't talk about the bible, I don't read it anyway

If you like punk, GODR (Glad,of,Death,Revival) is a good call :)

Here's their music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3pnaBQVQtY&NR=1
And their website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3pnaBQVQtY&NR=1
(Really, you can't get much more blatantly Christian than that xP They're absolutely fantatstic!)

I've heard it rumored that the visual kei bad, GaGaaling, is also a Christian band.
Unfortunately, I can't find the lyrics for the songs that make me suspect it the most - but the lead singer, MYM, supports and dedicates an entire section of her personal site to Rikiya Asai. Rikiya is a man in Hawaii who was born with a serious case of cerebral palsy, but uses his skills in painting to show and tell others about Jesus Christ.

You can read read his story here: http://www.lasereyehawaii.com/rikiya_asai.htm
And you can access GaGaaling's site here: http://www.gagaaling.com/
And be sure to check out MYM's page, too! : http://www.gagaaling.com/tsuyoi/namida.html

Even if they're not technically a Christian band, they have really positive lyrics and some AMAZING instrumentals!

There's also ...

dendoshi : http://www.myspace.com/dendoshi
route of soul: http://www.myspace.com/routeofsoul
isa: http://www.myspace.com/isaok

kiyo from heaven is another possibility, but I'm not really sure: http://www.myspace.com/kiyofromheaven

And, just to throw it out there, I've heard that J from Luna Sea is Christian as well, and I believe that the lead singer, Ryuichi Sakamoto, was rumored to be. But don't quote me on that. It was a while ago that I heard that. :x
I thought that maybe J was the reason they wrote one of their biggest hits (Jesus), but when I looked up the lyrics it just said "Luna Sea" wrote it. So....it's all up in the air. O.o

And, according to the sites below, Verba from M-Flo and Kenji Furuya from Dragon Ash (Tokyo Drift, anyone?) are Christians, as well. Don't get confused, though, because their personal beliefs don't influence the genre of the bands they're in....but we should definitely support them anyway! :D

I know of a couple others, but it'll take me some time to weed them out of myspace. Hope these guys can tide you over in the mean time! :)

Oh, and a side note for sherrynd:
how can you really understand who Jesus is without the Bible? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm really glad that you love Jesus so much. But the Bible is a three part collection of who Jesus is and what He's really about-- its the set up for why He came, what he did & taught, and the guides to continue on what He taught and desires so greatly; so it's kinda hard to say you're operating correctly without the manual. Just saying. :/

Thanks for posting some very useful links!!! Me and my best friend are both Christian and loooove Japanese music...talk about a double whammy!!! I will definitely show her some of these. Thanks for making my day!!! ^^

Also I didn't know Verbal was Christian!!! I love mflo & Teriyaki Boyz...but I would've never thought...

I know this one song by Super Junior that is about God. It's Korean, not Japanese, of course...but I thought I'd post the link for those who may not have heard it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmgupCY7dlI

It's called Song For You. Apparantly most of Suju is Christian. Not all of them though. Nonetheless, it's one of my favourite Super Junior songs. They are supporting what I believe in!!

anytime, sweetie! I am, too, and I've gotta say, I was pretty bummed when I couldn't find anyone a few years ago. :(
But it's expanding!

There's also this REALLY good hip hop artist, but I can't remember his name to save the life of me >.>

Yeah!! I was SO shocked (but ecstatic, of course ;D ) when I heard about Verbal and Furuya! It makes me so freaking happy though! ^^

Aw, thanks for the song, sweetie! ^^
I think there are a LOOOOOT of Christian artists in Korea. I know a couple boys from 2pm are, as well.

I so agree with you. you can't be a Christian or have a personal relationship with Christ if you think that what we have should die in specific areas. God has directed us what to do, we are not to force people to believe in Him and have a relationship with Him, but we are to at least plant a little seed of who He is and what He did for us in each person we meet.

I thank the Lord for giving us such oppertunities.

Amen friend!
If you truly call yourself a Christian, you are following in the way of Christ.
Which means, you read the Bible, you pray, and you minister[tell others] about His love for them.

So that the WHOLE world can know of His love for them and the hope that they can have in Him.
The point isn't to put down people in their other religions, but let them see the truth and the really joy and peace they can have by following Jesus alone with and out of love.

It has been my dream for years now, that I could go to Japan and be a witness there to the people there, especially to the youth, but to everyone that I could meet there.

But I know God has a purpose for me being here right now, but still. I hope that one day, I can be there. <3

Onitsuka Chihiro is a really good Christian singer, and she has videos on youtube.com. I am extremely interested in this topic as I hope to one day make one or several churches in Japan. I think that the country, the people, the history, and the entire culture is such a beautiful thing. I shudder to think that such a rich people would miss out on God and heaven. I believe it is God's plan for me to preach (in some fashion) to the Japanese people. He has given me such a love of them, and I would not want to be anywhere or do anything else on this earth besides help Japan reach God. The impact that they could make on the rest of the world, as an example of Christ, would be exquisite.

In response to an earlier post, yes the Japanese are very religious, but their main religions are Buddhism and Shintoism. In Japan there are many shrines and examples of their beliefs. There are very few dedicated to Jesus, which I hope to see change in my lifetime, but only God knows what will happen...

The gospel is for everyone and is our job as christians to spread the word of God because the Bible tells us so because it is his word. I don't know about you all but when the spirit convicts me to do what is right and I don't do what God tells me to do I feel terible, so I always do what the Lord tells me to do. I also do the things I do because christ lives in me and I have the holy ghost and I live my life by the fruits of the spirit. Also I believe that Luna Sea is a christian band because they have played at shows like God Bless You. I also personally believe that God does bless people even if they aren't christians and believe in Christ, so how much more is he going to bless us.
God Bless each of you and have a good thinks giving, which is what we should be giving the Lord everyday.

the first Japanese Christian metal band, Imaritones.
As a fellow Christian my self, I enjoy Japanese music more than American music; so I share your burden of wanting for a Japanese Christian rock band more than anything. It's going to take some time for that to happen, but, in the mean time you can listen to music that isn't about killing yourself lol. Best of success to both of us,
God bless!
