Refering to your, how old do the band members have to be question....

There is no age limit to join. But i'd reccomend finding members that are near your age so that you can connect to them better. If your enthusiastic about starting your own band than it doesnt matter so much how old you are. But if you're concerned about it, than when you advertise your self i'd say you what age range you are looking for. Ex. maybe for your band you want the members to be between 18 and 22 years old... it's up to you to decided that.

So it's kindof up to you. If you want certain aged people with you, then state that when you advertise yourself. Or if you are asking if it's ok to be younger and join... that's fine too. If your enthusastic about something, then go for it!

Hope that answers your question.

Visual Kei originated from Japan yes. However music is universal, and there are some VK bands outside of Japan. For example, SAI from Sweden, Lamia Cross from France, DNR from Italy, solo act Dissident Genro from the UK, and another one that's not VK but it's Japanese rock inspired, is Phoenix Ash from California USA (they are not VK but Jrock inspired).

As far as making a band there is another forum in this group called "most useful info in starting a band" that gives you great tips on putting a band together. Read that hopefully it'll help. This group is supposed to allow people interested in starting a VK band meet other people with the same interest, in hopes of gaining band mates.

Random side note: I've had a lot of people message me saying, I'd like to start a VK band but I'm not Japanese, or I can't speak Japanese, or I don't live in Japan so I can't do that.... etc. It's my belief that music is universal with no boundaries and with hard work, persistence, and dedication, people can do just about anything they want to. You don't need to be of a certain race, speak a certain language, or live in a certain area to start a band.

If that doesn't answer your question, reply to this and I'll try to reanswer the question.

What information should the lead band member request from someone who wants to join?

I mean, so you know they aren't lying to you about their age or anything. Background checks, etc.

First off, i would state that you're trying to form a band around these qualifications. And then list the qualifications that you are looking for such as what instruments you need, what ages you are looking for, what location you should be near by etc. and then leave some type of contact information so they can get a hold of you.

If your interested in being secure over the internet, you surely have a right to do so since anyone can say anything over the internet. What I would suggest, is getting to know the person a little via emails, see if you guys are on the same page, because if you are in two different leagues than there is no need to continue trying to be a band member with them (it's just easier to start a band if you are all on the same page/level and aiming towards the same goals). So after the person passes whatever requirements you have, try and find someway to verify information. For example, if you communicate through IM first just communicate through text, then when you're comfortable, if you move to voice chat through IM then you can at least verify gender and narrow down the age a bit. You can also do a webcam chat to verify the age further. That's what i'd recommend doing if you're mainly worried about age, because you can see them through the internet and its safer because you are not meeting them in person. Overall, it is easy to lie over the internet because anyone can say anything, so just be careful and use your common sense. If the person seems to be sketchy or your gut is telling you to not trust this person, then listen to your gut. It's normally right in those situations. If you truly feel the need to do a background check then go ahead, that's up to you. One thing that I'd like to state though, is often times, if people over the internet give you vague answers all the time, it's more likely that they could be lying about themselves. Also never give a person money over the internet. There are a lot of scammers out there, so just don't do it. I found a website that reiterates my last two points:

http://hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Tell-If-Someone-Is-Lying-To-You

"4. You befriended someone in the Internet chat room, forum, dating site, etc. You talk, you share, you have a lot in common. Or so it seems. Then, they ask you for money to help with their sudden hardship.

You want to be a good person, you like them, you want to help. Unfortunately, you don't really know them. They can be anybody. Moreover, normal people don't ask virtual strangers for money. It's that simple.

5. You met someone charming on a dating site. You ask them what they do for a living and they tell you. It sounds wonderful and important. Unfortunately, when you ask for some details, they won't elaborate or will only give you vague answers.

They lie. There's no doubt about it. It's only a question of to what degree. They might be an accounting clerk and tell you they're a CPA. Or they might be an inmate and tell you they're a space engineer."

Let me know if that helped. ^_^

Hey~ I started a forum called Japan Band Start which is dedicated to bringing musicians together who are interested in Japanese music. A primary part of the site is the networking section where people post to try and start bands. Would you be interested in being affiliates?

Id also like to extend a hand for you to join xD I'll be looking for some moderators eventually and I know you've done a lot with bringing jrock lovers together^^

I've been saying this for what feels like years now. Music is universal and has no boundaries. That's one thing that makes it so epic. Just because a music genre is created in one country does not mean that it stays in that country forever. An example is rap. Someone invented it and then it got popular in that area, and now it's heard all over the world. (might not be the best example but hey, i'm trying lol). And sure most people who rap are black or white, but that doesn't mean they are the only rappers. that makes no sense. there are thousands of rap-ers who come from every ethnicity and language and background. You can even say most rap-ers are males, however there are still female rap-ers out there. Just because there is a majority doesn't mean that the minority can't follow suit. So what if visual kei is now mainly concentrated in Japan. Did you know that there are currently some VK artists in Hong Kong, Sweden, and i think Korea... and they are obviously not Japanese. So to make a long tangent come to an end, it doesn't matter your age, gender, ethnicity, background, religion, or language etc. If you want to make a Visual Kei band, then go for it!

PS- this comment was not meant to be racist or sexists or anything. It wasn't even supposed to be mainly about rap (i don't even like rap that much, i was just using it as an example). I was just trying to get my point across...
