The 700 Club is a Christian talk show. One of the hosts is a man named Pat Robertson, and every New Years he “shares what God has shown him about the coming year.” At the beginning of last year he predicted:

-Economic Rescission

-Stock Market Crash

-Oil rising to $150 a barrel

-Gold rise to a $1,000 an ounce

This year he admitted that he had expected the major economic crash to come in 2009, but it arrived earlier than he predicted. He did predict it but noted that he was wrong on the date. Oil prices rose up to $147.50 a barrel and gold rose to $1,000 an ounce.

Robertson’s prophesies for this year had more context but fewer specific numbers.

He predicts:

-Under Obama the economy will recover fairly swiftly.

-Increase governmental power

-Socialism growth

-Obama plan will restructure the economy in the same way that FDR did with the New Deals.

-America will never again have the same measure of world power.

-Dangerous dictators will rise throughout the world.

-Russia will be the most dangerous and lead the coalition to control the middle east.

-A strong government will deal forcefully with Palestine and bring international condemnation and sanctions against Israel but “God will uphold his people.”

-The whole of Islam will weaken.

-Christians should extend their outreach to the ummah since many Muslims are ready to listen.

-Great and cataclysmic things will become common place throughout the world.

-Poverty and misery will be more wide spread.

-There has never been and will never be a more propitious time for the gospel.

-People will seek answers and receive forgiveness and salvation in Jesus Christ.

-Stalk Market turn around.

He also noted that sometime further in the future gas would rise to $300 a barrel. The value of the dollar will decline sharply. Hyper inflation will take place. Gold will go to $1,900 an ounce. Russians will try to gain control of oil. He claimed that the time of the prophesy of Ezekiel 38 was at hand. However, he admitted his own ambivalence about the information in this paragraph by saying, “If I’m seeing this right.”

Personally I’ve always considered Pat Robertson to be a pretty legitimate Christian. However, a lot of what he’s “prophesying,” seems a lot like economic prediction. An economist could tell you some of this stuff, it’s not really necessary to have God on your side.

Pat Robertson is wealthy, extremely well educated, and has access to information.

This being said, his accuracy with specific numbers is certainly notable. What are your thoughts? Personally, I’m just eager to see how accurate this “prophet’s” foresight really is.

Pat does note that he may not interpret everything he is shown properly. To me that just sounds like a dodge, but it should be kept in mind.

EDIT:

Made this like 80 years ago. Guess I never noted, I really know nothing about the guy. It's just that from what I've seen, he's never said or done anything noteably un-Christian.

Did you even read my post, or just glance over it and happen to catch that one word? I didn’t say he was a legitimate prophet or that he had help from above. What I said was that I’ve always thought of him as a legitimate Christian. That just means that I think he really believes in Christianity. Heck, I said myself that it kind of looks like his information is just economics.

I can say that I’m sick of Fox News getting an unfair reputation. It’s like every other news station is shacking up with the liberals but calling Fox a whore for shacking with the conservatives. Sure, it’s bias, but so is CNN and yet I never seem to hear people taking a jab at it.

I know that cnn and all of the rest spread propaganda as well (Look at the lead up to the Iraq war), I am all for public brodcasting , glad one of the stations here in Canada (CBC) gets decent funding and is more mainstream then your PBS so we have a unbiased voice. And I will admit I skimmed the post , Just have a lot of hate for the man, who claims to have a direct link to a god and makes a crap load of money from it, he is full of bigotry and homophobia. And preaches a far right doctrine to his viewers filling them with false truths and hatred towards certain groups and people. In short, until the day I see him taking hard questions in an interview and he reveals himself to be legit, he is nothing more than a scumbag to me.

I don’t watch the show regularly but I think these accusations are a bit unfair. I’ve never heard him say anything racist or sexist. He’s expressed a disagreement with homosexuality but he’s never said anything bad about gay people. It’s one of those ‘hate the sin love the sinner,’ type things.

I don’t think he’s ever been aggressive against gays or any ethnic group. You ARE right when you say that his political ideology interfere with his message. He’s diffidently bent against liberalism and that does irritate me.

He is against gay marriage which also bothers me. I think gay marriage is a right. Then again, Obama is also against homosexual marriage and nobody is accusing him of being a homophobe.

What’s wrong with being rich? Look, the man donates massive amounts of money to charities all the time. He’s done a lot of good things, and by remaining in the public eye he allows himself and his organization to do even more good.

I intend to become incredibly rich and use my wealth to do great things. I want to feed the starving, bring medicine to the sick, and provide shelters for the homeless. That doesn’t mean that I wont pursue a comfortable life for myself as well. That’s all Pat is doing.

I don’t think he’s a bad person at all. I don’t agree with all of his opinions, but to call him a scumbag is unfair. I think he’s a great man whose done more good than either one of us.

All the assumptions he made could have been made by anyone. In fact, it doesn't take a genius to figure out most of them... this guy is definitely a joke

-Technically anyone can "predict the future". It's like solving a math problem in the real world. First you have to identify the question, like what will happen to the oil in 2009. Then you have to find the variable, which is harder because it's really hard to identify them all. Then you have to know how to set up the variable, like set up the math equation but not with numbers. Like, is the price of oil an inverse or direct relationship with the confidence of the Middle East. Something like that. Then of course you solve it based on th current trend in the world. You can of course use the same equation for each year but the circumstances may be different and therefore change your outcome, or your prediction/answer.
-Pat Robertson I guess can probably be considered a legitimate "prophet" even if he does screw up from time to time. At least he's hitting the dart board. Nostradamus himself was a prophet but was known to use the stars to help him predict the future, and even the future beyond his time. But Robertson gettting these prophesies straight from God, makes me wonder how direct. Anyways, a more accurate and more astonding guy is Bruce Bueno de Mesquita. It doesn't say much on his wikipedia but he's been known to be 99%. He's even got a formula. Here's the link.

Pat Robertson a legitimate Christian? I think Pat Robertson is a sad excuse for a human being, with no moral values whatsoever, only interested in making millions off exploiting Christianity and ignorant people's faith.

His latest comment on Haiti was just another example of how horrible he is. He represents everything that is wrong with religion today.

More like he represents everything wrong with humanity today. I hate Pat Robertson. This guy took advantage of the money-making possibilities in both religion and big business (two things that utterly ruined us as a species) in order to make himself relevant and influential. All the things he has ever done was to enact his own agendas, garner lots of prestige for himself, and make tons of money in the name of faith. He also has the backing of the government. Religious organizations spend millions lobbying and pay no taxes. This guy is no different than L. Ron Hubbard.

After what he said about Haiti and the Devil thing, I totally have no belief in the man. He's just exploiting the Christians. I'm Christian and I just don't believe in the dude. NOT AT ALL! I don't believe in him at all.

Pat Robertson is not one of my favorite people. His grandiose commentaries make Christians look stupid and bigoted. I mean, the stuff he said after Katrina and the Haiti earthquake -- come on! Does he want the world to hate us more than it already does?!

In short, he's an idiot with a big mouth who happens to have is own program. Lord preserve us from "well-intentioned dragons"!

Lol this thread is funny because a fake extremist Christian like Pat Robertson fools his followers by predicting shit that any other economist can predict. The only difference between this clown and economists is that he says it is his "vision" to fool narrow minded christians that this guy is somehow has some mystical powers to predict the future. I call bullshit and people shouldn't fall for this farce.
