Killing a man for his crime is not teaching rather getting rid of him and hopefully scare people
Locking people up gives them time to think of other ways to kill someone eles or another crime and this time fixing there mistakes. These people were using time for plans anyways your just feeding them.

either way the world is pretty screwed up

Totally agree with it. we need a fast track for it here:
1. the killers should die by penalty after starving in prison for years.
2. the rapists should die by penalty after years of being raped and starving in prison.
3. the thieves should be removed of all earthly belongings to see if they can survive like working people.

it should be allowed because
1. retribution, "a life for a life", this only applies to murderers etc.
2. deterrence, to make potential criminals think twice before committing crimes because they are reminded of the heavy repercussions once they get caught
3. closure for victim's family, cause they wouldn't feel comfortable when they know that the criminal is still alive
4. criminals who are kept in jails are using the taxpayer's money, and we wouldn't want that, right?
5. some crimes(e.g. murder) are serious to the point that the only way to deal with it is to use the death penalty
6. some criminals are beyond rehabilitation(e.g. serial rapists/murderers)

I think a huge ass man-made island should be made to send prisoners to. Be there without tv or radio. Only books and work out equipt. Killing them just gives easy escape. Locking them up to have their mind go through all the tings they can never do and thinking about how they could have escaped every day is better. Let them go through the mental termoil their victims loved ones must go through.

I think death penalty is immoral but to a certain extent I would think it's the answer if applied to exceptional cases e.g. serial killers, serial rapists, etc.

Just bring back the Electric Chair to scare criminals and make them think twice before comitting a crime.
It's called: " Execution by electrocution. "

But seriously, I want them to feel remorse for what they have done.
At least apologize and live the rest of their lives to atone for their sins.
Make them plant trees and do woodcrafts in jail. Make use of their man powah~

hmm... to me, the death penalty is just an easy way out for their crimes. they won't suffer through what they put their victims through... getting the death penalty will be lucky for them since they don't have to spend time in jail to suffer and rot.....

no dealth penalty, they shouldnt pay for their sins by just dying.
they spend many years in jail and then die, that way they have time to reflect, and jail isnt fun.
we have bigger problems in canada...
