The problem with Chi in martial art, is that there isn't an universal definition for it. You heard a lot about it in various styles like Hapkido, Tai Chi, Jujitsu, Karate, etc. But they don't always sound the same, this is because that each style follows a fundamentally different teaching. However, they're all martial arts.

In Chinese, martial art is written as "武術," where the character "武" means martial and the character "術" means art. The character "武" can be broken down further into two other Chinese characters meaning "motion" and "stillness." Therefore, martial art is the art of in-between motion and stillness, which is the moment when your body is in a state of "being." Personally, I believe that is the universal definition of Chi, and every martial art styles have their own unique training techniques in order to enhance that state of being.

In Hapkido, the training involves the application of circular movement, a cycle between motion and stillness. In Tai Chi, the training involves regulating one's energy, with special breathing techniques that will enhance one's movements and vice versa. In Jujitsu, the training involves studying and analyzing human kinetic, with emphasis on imposing restriction on your opponent's movement. In Karate, the training involves focusing one's spirit, mind and body, with the purpose of finish the conflict in one swift motion.
