First of, I'm sorry I'm starting this while there's a similar topic going on, but otherwise I'll forget again

Last week in photography class our teacher read a press release to us. Which I was surprised I hadn't heard of before, but I don't watch the news, so you guys might already know about it. I had to find an english article so the informations are not exactly the same as those in the press release I heard.

It's basically about children suicides all over the world, after saddam husseins execution, but I heard of 9 children, while the article I linked only mentions 3.

Please read this article: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=2773792&page=1.

I admit I lol'd when I first heard about it...but that's not the point. Our teacher read the article to us in order to start a debate on how much should be allowed to show to the public. Basically wanting us to think about our moral responsibilities as photographers. Is it okay to broadcast an execution on tv? The consequences might be children playing "Saddam gets hung".

I for one think whoever supports execution should fucking have to sit down and watch it a t prime time. I also believe the children wouldn't have normally played execution, if the adults hadn't made such a big deal of it. Like "the evil guy gets punished now".

Freedom of press, baby! It’s the responsibility of the parents to make sure their children don’t watch such things if they’re going to go and do it themselves.

^completely agree. although ultimately it's up to the children as to what games they play, it IS the parents responsibility to, at the very least, guide them and tell them what is and isn't safe.
you would think a 15 year old would know better than that though (the one who hung herself from the ceiling fan). i get that children might think of it as a game, but what was going on in HER head?! (not saying i agree that children should play those sorts of games, but come ON!)

Its true that children around that age are very impressionable but I don't believe anyone is that stupid to try hanging themselves. And the 15 year old that did it to "feel the pain" is masochist? I never did believe that the media or violent video games are the cause behavioral changes in children. I believe is the parents job to monitor and explain these things to children as article said.

The father of the 15-year old girl had said his daughter had repeatedly declared her anger about saddam being executed. I'll go search some more. Might find a better article.

Really? Well shoot... I don't like it when they have Jews on the news! Next time they show a Jew doing anything other than dying I'm going to hang myself! That will teach them!

Of course I don't really feel that way, but you get the point I was trying to get accross.

^No I don't. Shouldn't it be next time they have jews on the news your going to convert to being a jew? I agree with Shrooms up there.if your dumb enough to do it then your not smart enough to make a significant impact on the world so oh well.

I don't get it though. When I was that age I knew that hanging yourself from a rope causes death

I'm getting the feeling that this 15 year old was already pretty unstable. I'm 15 and I'd *never* even attempt to hang myself, regardless of if I saw it happen or not. What's the difference between me and him other than state of mind?

Yeah, there's no way even the dumbest kid wouldn't realise that putting a rope around your neck until you can't breath will kill you...surely...

If it was that important to feel there were other ways of going about it. Not putting yourself in such a stupid and obvious situation.
