who is BOA? haven't heard her name. I know boa is a HUGE snake very popular in south america.

haha well let me give you the "101" then !Boa Kwon (born November 5, 1986 in Guri, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea) is a multilingual, South Korean singer, commonly known by her stage name BoA (not to be confused with the HUGE snake that is very popular in south america), and the letters of her first name have been backronymed to Beat of Angel by her fans. She has been active in both South Korea and Japan. Aside from Korean, BoA also speaks Japanese, and conversational English. BoA has also topped the Oricon charts (which I might add is not an easy feat considering that non-Japanese artists usually find this close to impossible) and has more than enough albums under her belt to make her popular. Albeit she is not as famous as Lucy Liu but she has potential (not to mention that she just debuted in America(USA)!!).

So there you have it! My little "BoA 101" (as i like to call it )

Well, I am an asian born and grew up in the states. The names I mentioned above are the ones I know coz they are on shows here in the states. Like zhang ziyi had few hollywood hits, same thing with lucy liu, michelle yeoh, and joan chen. charice pempengco has been to oprah, ellen degeneres show, shows in england, and the netherlands, and sang at the recent macy's parade, performed multiple concerts with popular stars here. not sure if you know oprah and the macy's parade. macy's parade is being watched by almost all american household every thanksgiving - thanks to this popular korean show for inviting her (i think) where she had her break. and oh yeah gong li starred in miami vise. and another asian is lea salonga who starred in miss saigon and recorded few songs in the states. but BoA - who is she? you said she debuted in the US??? i guess she will be debuting forever hahaha. what is Oricon chart??

BoA - still sounds like a monster snake to me. I don't think I need 101 lesson. I would call 911 if I see a BoA hahaha.

peace,
J

i can't think of a female actress but i do know an actor

JACKIE CHAN!!!!!!!!!!
u can't find any asain taz more famous than him

Jackie Chan is no doubt very good and popular. But to me, Bruce Lee is the most famous Asian star. he is in the hollywood walk of fame. If you ever be in Hollywood, look for the walk of fame where you see the names of stars like tom hank, paul newman, clint eastwood, etc..there you will see bruce lee's name - the first and I strongly believe the only Asian to leave a mark in that famous place. in fact when i was in this remote country side of pennsylvania - i went in to a grocery store. there were two kids running around but they stopped when they saw me go in, they became really serious and they started to whisper to each other. a white guy friend of mine (i am an asian american) asked them what are they whispering about. they told him that they think i am bruce lee hahaha. funny but that tells me how bruce lee opened the eyes of most americans that we - asians do exist.

what do you think?

so you have listened to Charice. She is just so amazing for a 16 years old. I love her voice but I don't like the way she acted while being on Oprah's show last week. I think she tried too hard to be an adult. Also, I wonder why she could cry so easily which irritates me. ehehehhehe Anyhow, when she starts to sing, I just fall in love with her. I hope she will go a long way and become as famous as Celine Dion or Sarah Brightman.

haha aww man i didnt mean to offend u! i was just saying cause if need be, i know that u could (if ur interested enough) easily google BoA and find out that she isn't a snake. anyways, u shouldnt just throw away someones achievements because u dont care. i totally respect lucy liu as an actor and as a person cause im sure she worked her ass off to get to where she is.
i (like u) am also an asian born in america. seeing how this website is mostly (if not completely) dedicated to asians, it would be only fair to keep an open mind to aspiring asians. now, if u have a certain reason to NOT care about BoA or something like that, i respect that as well and i gladly take back what i said

take care now and i hope were cool!

I'm gonna have to say probably not Hikaru Utada as I'd never heard of her before this thread, and from the looks of what I googled up, you have to be one of the people into the Japanese pop culture to really know of her well.
My guess would be Zhang Zi Yi, Lucy Liu, Margaret Cho, Michelle Yeoh, Gong Li, Devon Aoki, Vera Wang or Brenda Song, as they're names you'll get a response to from people who have no interest in Asian pop culture.
