i do find it interesting that both the 480 and 720 streams have buffer crap out at the same spots...

Who actually does the encoding?

To me the video streams of naruto seem to have a tearing effect and dropped frames like when using vmr rendering compared to overlay.
I'm not sure how the streaming works but Its like the machine playing the stream is slightly under powered to me...

I running a Amd 9550 with 4g of ram 780g chip set, same thing with my Intel box core2 Duo at 2 ghz both with latest fire fox and flash installed

And the status bar not going away in full screen is still driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!

Back again.. sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere, but I think I made an observation...

The "simulcast" episodes (Gintama 139 and Naruto 91) seem to be just total crap (the effects and problems I mentioned above). The "catalog" episodes (everything else in other words) seem to be better, and not show as many problems...

Back Catalog eps seems to even have better color, no stuttering or anything. In contrast, simulcasts are like someone plugged in a VCR just so they could spit it out faster. Has this been discussed with TV Tokyo, etc? If the price of seeing it 1 hour later is crappy quality, then maybe it should be a day @ GREAT quality. I'd be fine with that personally.

The vid quality on the catalog stuff shows that it can be done, and the quality on the simulcasts shows that they may not want to...

I'm just speculating, but the fact that simulcasts are 1 hour after Japan release means that the time window to process everything is a lot shorter. That may affect the quality issues.

I can confirm that the blended frames and stutter are due to TVT's faulty ripping process. It's being worked on with them. You should see improvements in week or two.

The video quality has nothing to do with the use of Flash Media Server, it's the same regardless. In fact, when everything works properly, the user experience should be even better. The problem was rolling out the new video-serving system at the same time as the Naruto simulcast. Despite heavy testing, some very ugly bugs decided to rear their head.

This explains the video sucking in the smulcasts...

TV Tokyo thought speed was more important than quality. I guess for people like me, that's reversed. Ironically, speed is more important to non-paying customers (which explains the hacking, theft and reposting at whatever horrible quality, on other sites which should have their brains sued out of them...), and they are forced to wait a week. Or... not, as the case may be.

And what are paying customers paying mostly for? Quality. Not the right to watch Naruto at 5:00am EST on the same day it airs in Japan.

Live and learn... I welcome week 2 of the experiment...

(P.S. if anyone from TV Tokyo is listening: whatever method used for the back catalog works great... use that for simulcasts too. )

You echo my sentiments exactly. You live and die by the quality of your content. But to be fair I don't think TVT has ever done anything like this before, so I guess it isn't surprising that there would be some problems. I'm not deflecting any of the blame from CR, though, because the service provider problems are understandably driving people insane...

That, and until CR came out with the pay service, the previous choices that fans made were all, for the most part, free. So there'd be a certain backlash to this, even if there were no technical issues at all. You can see it all over - people are used to getting something for nothing.

Gotta remind myself, as a lot of others on here do, of how things usually go at their launch, in the tech world. I can remember when Myspace and Facebook expanded beyond what they anticipated - you couldn't even get to the homepage for hours at a time. Youtube, same thing. I'll try to take a deep breath, count to 10, forget I ever downloaded fansubs of the licensed shows... and remind myself this is a totally new venture (in the anime world, anyway).

Also reminding myself that once these kinks are fixed, and the annoyances outlined here are buffed out... CR WILL be awesome, and well worth the price of a sandwich per month.

I wanted to post something everybody already know and this may not be the right place anyway... but since homerpez is doing a good job at saying what "must" be done to make CR the only place you have to go to watch anime... well... I just wanted to say it.

I see everywhere " Ok we can watch anime for Free all over the web on thousand sites and for whathever I don't care of Crunchyroll and paymember are stupid" <= This is one thing... I don't agree with them but there is always raw files and fansubbers who can do the job CR is doing legaly. So this is another matters.

But the thing "WE" (all paying members) and the Cr&Publishers Staff cannot let do is the extreme stealing of all CR library. I was watching over the net for "what's new" in animes which are still not here and I found that the "great famous HorribleSubs" started to upload most of the available content in CR. Up to yesterday I think all gintama, part of naruto, shugo chara, skip beat druaga and pipopa and all simulcast shows are in torrent in .mkv files. They don't even hide that it comes directly from CR.

I would no say anything if it was for only 1or2 episodes but when it comes to everythings... it's not fair for all those who believe in this new anime experience and who try hard to rise the new born Crunchyroll '09.

I know that nearly nothing can be done against those peoples (shuting down one head and ten others are growing again) but it kills the meaning of this site so I hope some issues will be found to stop this sickness that kills the roots of the futur.

Thank you for reading ^^
