Shinji started this site with the idea of sharing anime and spreading it further, he molded a site that he could maintain, not for money's sake; but on donations and bring anime to the masses in an easygoing, fun place. But recently the only things that are here are things the companies want us to see, the things they want us to buy (or in the case of this site now, basically rent on a medium they do not have to pay nearly as much for to et the same kind of profit).

Where did it all go wrong? No longer can we see the animes we did before, no longer can we be in the same community and talk about these awesome animes. When did this become about the money? when did it lose it's meaning? Crunchyroll is no longer what it set out to be, now it is the same as a DVD, a medium in which a company makes money off of us. Now instead of just making money off the DVD sales they double dip and basically ask us to pay to watch what is seen free over airways in japan to watch.

We are no longer sitting in a great place to come and discuss anime, we are no longer coming to a place where we can even really call it anime appreciation. We are now being subjected to a kind of advertising for basically a rental plan on things we will have to buy later if we want the full quality DVD copies! We are being tempted by the waits and soon will see where just about every anime we want to watch a new episode of we will not be able to for a long while unless we cough up the dough to do so.

When did it stop being about the anime and it became one big chase for the $?

Shinji, I have lost my faith in you.

I'm not even so concerned that shinji read this... I just had to get it out there...

when do people stop doing what they love to pursue money?

I find it is a similar idea to selling your soul, losing that which you love and being brainwashed by $...

It can happen to anyone, but I really thought Shinji had his heart in the right place...

wow, $60 a year, what happened, your parents didn't want to cough up the dough? Dude, this shit cost money and if you where a true believer, you would have been buying the DVD's, here's a great service that has a ton of content that if you where to buy anywhere else, it would cost you a lot more than $60, let alone for the entire year you buy things for. As for the quality, not even DVD comes close the quality of 480p or 720p, you'd have to buy Blu-Ray discs, which cost like $30 a piece, believe me this is a much better service than you can imagine. I honestly feel I donated $60 rather than payed it, because I know that it takes a lot for people to create these creations. I would love to live a society where money does not effect art, but we do not live in that world. These people have to feed families and pay bills like the rest of us, they don't get enough for the amount of dedication they put in to their shows. Sure, some animations are... sub par when it comes to the actual quality in my opinion, but never the less, if you want to watch it, you gotta pay, they put in a lot of money themselves to make it, why shouldn't they expect a return? It's not like they're rich, even the companies that are well known, they spend a lot of the money they earn on the shows they create. So dude, chill out and enjoy what you got.

well first off I buy the DVDs and so forth, and only of series I enjoy...

and where do you get off talking to me like I am 16?

I am saying the general pursuit of money has clouded what this site was originally supposed to be, and you just came in here slinging mud and dragging things into it that are not really relevent.

I do not want to pay to 'rent' these anime, especially since most of them are animes I do not even care for, and judging by how old some of these are, the ones I like will be available for me to BUY in blu-ray before I can pay to rent them.

Good for you that your mom bought you a 60$ membership, but this isn't about that.

It's about what we have lost here as a website.

guy it was bound to happen, "nothing good lasts forever" right? It happened, besides I doubt this was completely about money (maybe a little), it does cost money get licenses, and I'm willing to bet that the site was about to get it's pants sued off, so they probably gave him an offer, "You pay for the licenses, and we give you exclusive services (high quality videos)." So if you where in the position, what would you have done, gotten sued, or payed up? I mean, I don't know if this is what really happened, but I prefer to see the good in people.

Sorry man, I work a 4 ta 1 job, I can buy my own insurance and everything.

shinji followed the rules, some animes were even pulled if they were suspected of being licensed soon.

I still have IRC and torrents, it was just nice to have a full out community of people who enjoy the anime and could talk about it amongst each-other... now we are losing something that was wonderful.

It is sad to see it go, but I am guesing he had to get rid of all the good stuff since he is basically turning his site into a marketing area for the big names in anime ownership.

and trust me, the artists/creators are not the main people who profit from this industry...

so I hear, dudes need to jump the great lake and find some free enterprise in Canada. America ain't worth shit, and Japan is quickest to follow apparently, I'm telling everyone should migrate to Canada. If it wasn't for my love of perfect weather, I would've left this place and moved to Canada.

I know one thing. This business tactic would be very ineffective on a grand scale.

60$ is too big for a person in the Philippines.
