A lot of people seem to be saying Code Geass . That isn't even close to correct . When Code Geass was airing , it never broke the top 10 in ratings in Japan , and was usually outside the top 20 on the weekly charts . It is my favorite anime ever made though . It probably is close to number 1 in worldwide popularity , but shows like One Piece Doraemon and Detective Conan are the kind of stuff that is popular in Japan .

Gundam is by far the most popular franchise in Japan though . Although i do like Gundam a lot , i often felt uneasy around a lot of the Gundam Otaku during my time living in Japan .

hahaha why did you feel uneasy being around gundam otaku? skip that, what was it like living in Japan?

Living in Japan was fun . I moved there after second grade and spent the rest of my school days there . After i was there for a few years , and everyone knew me , it got a lot better . I don't think Japan is really comparable to any other part of the world . Out of all the countries i have been to , Japan is the one which is in its own little world .

And hardcore Gundam otaku are very scary . There was many levels of otaku-ness , but as sure as the sun comes up , you would see at least 1 in every class you have .Gundam otakus are very bold as well . They are nothing like the otakus portayed in a lot of anime . They would stare at you if they thought you even resembled someone from the series . Talking to them at times made you feel like you weren't even talking to a human . Gundam is everything to a lot of them .

For the most part i just stayed away from them . Most of them seemed like they were good people, just with an insane addiction to Gundam . I love anime , but never really got involved with that crowd . It wasn't exactly easy being a westerner there as it is , and i imagine it would of been much harder if i ran in those circles .
