Well here is a new story that I have come up with. It's a sort of a School Life story with romance and a bit of science fiction combined with a bit of fantasy. So rest assured that this story will be all over the place once it begins. Originally I wasn't planning on making this my next story to work on. I was planning on working on a totally different story but when I came up with this one I already had like the first three episodes in my head. So I figured, alright here's my new story. I plan on having a ton of fun with this one.
This story doesn't really have a main direction or story, but more it's supposed to be about a couple of characters that live their lives, so it's mostly supposed to be a bunch of small stories and stuff sort of like that. I should also mention just in case if people get a little confused. The beginning is sort of a Narration., which in my book sort of counts like thinking so I put it in Italics, everything else that is in Italics after that is just supposed to be the character thinking (unless I say different.). Okay please enjoy the story! ^_^ “He Holds the World in his Fingers” Episode 1; The Project from Hell (Part 1) ** Spoiler Alert!!! click to hide or show** “I will never forget the day I first met the most amazing person in the world. (You begin to see a very pretty girl in a school uniform with a short skirt, pretty large sized breasts, Brown hair, and green eyes, riding a bike towards a big sized school.) The strangest man I ever met in my life, and yet he seemed to always know what was going on. (You see the girl ride her bike up to a bike rack and park it. A couple other girls walk by and say good morning to her.) He always seemed to not care about what went on around him and yet at the same time, he cared about everything. It was his natural aloofness that caused the people around him to be filled with confusion. (The girl walks for a while and enters the large school building while being greeted by every person along the way.) This was me before I met him. Before I knew about everything, I was that stuck up, popular, beautiful girl. The way I thought was the same as everybody, certain people an do certain things, others can't do other things. (She finally begins to walk into a class room where she is still talking with a bunch of other students around her.) That was how I did and thought about everything, that is, before I met the man who held the world in his fingers. (You begin to see behind the girl and the group of people around her a desk way I the back corner of the class room with a Boy sitting in a desk, with bright blond hair and blue eyes, but his eyes are blank, just sitting sort of casually.)” “Hey Mizuki, I heard a rumor that the new really popular transfer student has a huge thing for you!” One girl around Mizuki began gossiping to her. “Really is that true!?” Another girl around her had joined in on the gossip, by now a bunch of girls had started crowding around her. “Well... I haven't heard of anything about a guy like that, he likes me you say?” Mizuki was obviously trying to keep her cool but still couldn't help but indulge in the praise. “I heard he might try and ask you out or something like that! He's so hot!” The first girl began to gossip again. All the girls began to giggle at all the gossip that was going around. When all of a sudden attention was drawn to a single girl in the back of the room who was standing with her head down as she stood in front of the guy with blond hair and blank blue eyes. “Please! uh... A-Accept my feeling please!” The girl had shouted this at the guy and the whole room went silent as everybody began to look at the two of them. It was obvious that this girl was a first year by the way that she looked and carried herself. The whole room was filled with a Dead silence for a few moments. “...Why?” Was the guys answer. The whole room seemed to let out a slight gasp. “...W-W-Why?! What do you mean why? I-I Like you Tobias!” The first year girl seemed to respond with surprise and embarrassment. “You do? What am I supposed to do then?” As Tobias said this , it seemed like another gasp was let out by the whole room. “What? W-Well do you like me back?!?” She bangs her hands on Tobias's desk. It seems like he began to think very carefully for a moment. “Would it make you happy if I said yes?” Tobias answered calmly. Another silence had fallen over the classroom. Over all this commotion students out in the hallways began to peak in through the door t witness what was going on. “Yes! It would be great to hear! I would be really happy!” The girl seemed to be really excited, but everybody else that was watching still seemed kind of horrified as though they could easily see how this was going to roll out. “Well then I'll say that I like you.” He seemed to say this in full confidence. “Really! I can't believe that Tobias likes me! This is great! I knew that if I'd just confront you it would all work out!” She seemed so happy. A couple of students did a face to palm expression. “Well I mean I don't really like you, but if it makes you happy then I'll say it.” Tobias seemed to begin something big. “Uh Oh... Here it comes.” Some random student whispered. “What do you mean you don't really like me?” The girl asked with confusion. “Well it's simply that I don't know you. That and a bunch of other small things. Such as you're not of an age in which I believe is appropriate for me to be sexually interested in, that also includes the lack of maturity that was displayed in front of everybody that shows that you have a high probability of being dumb. Still I try to keep people happy, because when people are happy I'm able to observe better in various situations, you said if I liked you that you would be happy, but then asking for my direct opinion resulted in this explanation.” Tobias just simply looked at her with his same unchanging blank blue eyes. An Ominous Silence had grown after that statement but was then broken by the sharp loud sound of a smack. The Girl had slapped Tobias as hard as she could and then quietly walked out of the classroom with all of her shame intact. Tobias slowly raised his hand to his face and began to rub the hand shaped mark on his face. He acted almost as if nothing had even happened. Some whispers began to arouse in the classroom, most were unimportant, but it had turned into quite a clamor. “Ha! Another first year dared to fall for the pretty face of Tobias the Strange!” A random guy had mentioned. “Seriously, these first years need to pay more attention to what goes on in this school, that's like the third one so far this year to fall victim to his awkward logic!” Another boy says back to the other one. Mizuki just continues to look at Tobias with confusion and a slight amount of disgust. “What the hell is his problem?” Asked Mizuki. “What! You don't know about Tobias! How could you not? He's like a sort of legend in our school!” One girl said as she seemed appalled to even here such a statement. “Hey go easy on her, remember Mizuki transferred here at the beginning of this year, she's probably still learning about the school.” A boy said covering her back, he also showed some slight interest in Mizuki as he said it. Mizuki looked up at the girl with eyes of curiosity in preparation to hear a great story. “Well Tobias has been at this school since his first year, but before that nobody had ever heard of him, some people say that he was from a different town or city before coming here for school, but nobody has really been able to ask him about it, well because most people are too scared to ask him...” “So he's a thug as well?” Mizuki began with a strange assumption that was quickly disregarded by the other students. “No... He's not a thug, He's just out there... Let me continue the story.” The girl begins to continue on. “During his first year he was considered one of the most attractive guys in the school, I mean sure there are a lot of more attractive guys in the school besides him, but nonetheless he was a popular one. At first he was coveted by a lot of other girls who liked him but never actually took motive to talk to him, so for almost about half a year he was a mystery. Soon after about half a year, some weird things started happening around him. Nothing out of the ordinary but his overall grades and work were noticed to be quite strange. It would fluctuate between F's and A's. He would never get anything in between. Every grade he got would either be a solid F or a solid A. I heard the work that he got A's on are all filled with correct answers, never a single one wrong. As for his solid F's, they would just simply be worksheets or tests turned in completely blank!” She pauses for a minute to add dramatic effect to her Monologue. “That is pretty strange... but that's not much to freak out over right?” Mizuki says reasonably. “Ha that's not even the start of it! See most of the girls that liked him Immediately disregarded that due to their infatuation of his good looks, soon it started getting really weird. The first ever girl finally got the guts to ask him out. She was a third year, so already it was kind of weird, a third year asking out a first year, she was generally good looking and popular on the girls soccer team, so she was considered a pretty good catch to most guys. She got up the guts and asked him out sort of like how you just saw just now, except it was a bit different. She ended up crying a lot and then to make it more weird, after rejecting her he was trying to devise a way in which to calm her down and talk things out logically. Oh man was she pissed, a lot of people made fun of her after that, and because the full story was not released many other girls tried and got the same sort of rejection, but it was always weird, it seemed almost like he would devise a logical reason and set of circumstances behind each individual rejection! It was madness!” “Wow... that is really strange! Wait... He'd literally think every rejection through logically? What exactly do you mean by that?” Mizuki asks being fully engulfed in her curiosity. “Well like he would think out each rejection carefully before stating it. No rejection is ever the same, It's like as if he tries to understand each girls individual features and publicly embarrass them about their unwanted qualities to justify his rejection!” One of the surrounding boy's had cut in with that statement. “But wait tell Mizuki the rest of it!” Another girl cuts in after the boy. “What! There's more to this guy?!” Mizuki says still amazed. “Yeah it gets better,” The girl who was monologuing began to continue. “Yeah he's been seen doing many strange things and asking many strange questions. Sometimes in class he's seen writing these long essays, but they're never about what's going on in the class. He just starts writing! A few of his essays have been thrown out and some students out of curiosity have picked them out of the waste baskets to see what they're about, It's said that sometimes they're about things that don't matter at all! Like a specific detail he might have noticed in a book he read, that doesn't really mean much of anything to the story, but some how he finds it so interesting he ends up writing a six page essay about it! Also He's been seen doing mathematical equations to help understand how something can be done logically, even if it's completely fictional! He does the same thing with science and chemistry. They say he's a genius but he doesn't really want to apply it to anything.” The girl stops again as if to say she's done talking. “I heard also that he's able to bend logic itself because he understands it so well!” another girl had joined in on the conversation. “Huh... able to bend logic... how is that possible...?” Mizuki asks out loud, but almost as if it's a hypothetical question. “Okay students! Quickly to your seats! Class will begin soon!” The teacher of the room had just walked in and as she said this all of the gossiping students quickly ran to their seats. “I would like for everybody to be ready, because I will start off this class by giving out everybody's tests back to them. This Math Test was in preparation for the big Math Test next week. I hope all of you will be ready for it and study really hard. First of all, Mizuki, Great job on your test, you got the highest score out of everybody. A 98%.” Mizuki in a prideful way gets up from her desk and picks up the test from the teacher. “Tobias... You, once again got the lowest score in the class. You didn't even try. Come up here for a moment.” Tobias carefully gets out of his seat and walks up to the teacher with still not a single expression on his face and those blank blue eyes of his. He grabs the paper and begins to walk back to his desk when the teacher stops him. “Tobias, why do you continue to fail all of my tests? You seem to do the study work and homework just fine, so why do you refuse to do the tests?” The teacher looks at Tobias quizzically. He stops and does not react, he seems to give off a feeling of thinking. “Teacher I do not do the tests because I do not find it logical in doing so.” The teacher seems amazed by this strange statement. “How do you explain this so called logic of yours in not producing test information?” The teacher seems to act as though she wants to challenge him on his own statement. “Well teacher it is quite simple, I do not like tests because it is just simply the regurgitation of material that I already understand, and is pointless to restate it. If I need the information for some purpose then it is best for me to use it at the time that it is most necessary for me to use it. Until that comes around I refuse to use it on something as pointless as a test that will have no benefit towards me.” A gasp went through the room with a few whispers that mention Tobias's defeat of a teacher. “Well of course it has a purpose! A tests purpose shows me that you understand the material well enough that I can pass you in my class!” It's obvious that the teacher is starting to become upset and is trying to defend herself as best as she can. “That is where you are wrong Teacher, although I do not wish to question your power of understanding, nor your power of authority, I have already taken care of watching over my status of work and how I progress in your class as I do in all my other classes, and I'm currently within a passing grade and have yet to change that from where I am.” Tobias responds back in a non-threatening manner. “Why you little...!” She quickly grabs for her grading book and begins flipping through it. Her eyes bulge out a bit in surprise. “Teacher, your face is telling me that you perfectly understand the situation and I am nowhere near a failing point, just like I said I wasn't. To prevent any further accusations or misunderstandings I will now return to my seat and think quietly for the rest of your period.” Tobias begins to walk back nonchalantly. “Listen Tobias! All I want you to do is apply yourself in my class. Just try doing a test so I can understand what kind of a level you are on with the rest of the class!” The teacher almost begins to look desperate in this situation. “Teacher, I have discovered through observation and action that I do not need to fully apply myself within your classroom, because I understand the material much better on my own. Your views and methods of doing this work tend to drift away from the best and most thorough way of accomplishing the actual work. I do not question your methods because in the end your method gets to the answer, which is often the main objective. Instead though, I like to focus more on the problem because for me it is a point of interest that I would rather focus on.” “Tobias, Please... Next time, please, please, just do the test.” It's come down to the teacher begging him. “Teacher, would me doing the test make you happy?” He asks this with serious curiosity in his voice. “Yes, please, next time I give out a test I would sincerely be happy if you just do the test and apply yourself to it.” The teacher still sounding desperate. “Okay teacher, I now fully understand and I will apply myself for this test if you are happy about me doing such a task.” He stands there as if waiting for an answer. “Thank you Tobias, will you now please sit down so that I may pass out all of the other tests to everybody?” “Yes Teacher, I think that is a good idea, I have many things to think about that require my attention and I should think about them peacefully in my seat.” He turns around and walks back to his seat. “What the hell was that! Did he just not only challenge the teacher but also came out victorious?!” Mizuki whispered this excitedly. “He's the living legend!” Responded the girl from before. As names were being read out for students to come pick up their tests, Mizuki was busy watching Tobias as he seemed to just sit and stare out into space. “How strange... God how can a guy like that even exist? He seems to not really care about anybodies feelings let alone his own. I mean how can someone be so cold... I would hate to ever have anything to do with him... Sure he's a bit interesting but it kind of doesn't really make up for the way he treats people.” She then notices that Tobias begins acting like as if he just thought of something, he begins to pull out some paper and a pencil. He quickly begins writing. He writes really fast only pausing once in a while to stop and think some more. “He understands logic so well that it is said he can defy it... I don't even know what that means... Logic is logic right? It's not like that really makes sense... I mean if something like that was possible don't you think someone else would have discovered it? I mean it only makes sense that a more qualified person could possibly reason with the idea that logic could be bent... What the hell am I thinking about this is so stupid, why would any of this stuff matters, it's not like it would apply to me. It's just pointless to think about something that I could never do anything about. Logic is logic, and it stops there.” As she finishes thinking this she suddenly realizes that Tobias has stopped writing and was holding his pencil in his hand and starring right back at Mizuki with his empty eyes. She quickly turns right back around and tries to act as if she never saw him. She waits for a while in her uptight position and she then lets out a small sigh and puts her head on her desk. “This is just ridiculous. I mean you'd think that if that guy had any real logic in his brain, he would stop acting like such a freak and put his intelligence and good looks to use. Maybe then he'd actually be famously popular instead of infamously popular. Well as long as I don't have to deal with him I think I should be fine. I bet he's one of those guys that makes people twisted just because they're around him to often or some weird crap like that. Hell maybe it's his parents fault, I bet they are so messed up in the head that it caused him to become like that. Now I have no idea if I should be upset at the guy or sorry for him. What ever, I'm quite happy with how I am, and that's all that really matters to me. I'm cute, smart, energetic, and fun! I'll have hot guys hanging off of me in no time!” With that she grows a slightly mischievous smile on her face. “Okay class! I'm going to be making an Important announcement! We will be having a History Project in this class. Although this is mostly a Math class, the teachers decided to divide the projects into different subject based classes so that way the teachers can not individually help on the projects. These projects will be done with partners, and I will be choosing who the partners are going to be by pulling them at random, and you can't switch out partners .” The teacher then begins naming off the partners. God... I hope I get some cute guy or maybe even a friendly girl classmate. That would probably be okay. Who knows if it's a cute guy, maybe it'll develop into something, ha ha just like in my romance stories I like, I'll come to his place to work on the project and something will happen and one thing will lead to another...” As Mizuki thinks about this, a smile grow on her face as well as she turns kind of red. “Mizuki you will be partnered with...” “Well anybody will be fine as long as it's not...” “...You will be partnered with Tobias.” The whole room went silent as the teacher said this. “No... Not him of all people...” Mizuki slowly turns her head to look behind her in horror. Tobias is just still siting in the same position as if nothing has ever happened, still writing whatever it was that he was writing down. “Ah... Hell...” A look of complete disappointment appeared on Mizuki's face. She turned her head back around and plopped it back on her desk. “Oh great... this is exactly what I couldn't want... Although I'm still fairly new, I've managed to climb up the ladder as being a pretty, smart, and popular girl, and now it seems like that is being threatened by this guy... Well I got to think of something to get my self out of this untimely mess. I can't just simply turn down from the project, that would make me look bad as well as give me a bad grade... I know! I'll just simply establish to him that I'm not messing around, that I'm just wanting to get the project done and that that will be the absolute end of it. That sounds logical! He's got to accept that, right? … God this is so stupid...” “Okay now I would like for all the students to get together with their mentioned partners, and work for the rest of this class period, also for a few of your other periods you are also allowed to work with your partners, also the School library is a great place that you are allowed to work with your partner at, as well as use as a resource. One more thing, I'm not saying that you are forced to have to do this, but it also might be kind of helpful for the project if you work on it outside of school as well. This is a big project and will count as quite a large amount of your final grade for this semester.” Mizuki looks behind herself again to see what Tobias is doing, and just as before, he is still sitting there with a pencil in hand writing whatever it was that he was writing. It seemed that he was writing up his third or fourth page of whatever it was he was working on. “Well it doesn't look like he's going to be getting up an time soon to come over here, it doesn't even look like he was listening... Well I guess I have no choice but to go over there myself and start this stupid project up with him. Just like I was thinking before, If I just straight up tell him that I just want to do this dumb project and get it over with, then we should be just fine and then move on our own happy and complete individual directions and not have to deal with each other anymore. This will work out and no one will really care right? I mean sure there's going to be rumors flying around for a while but those can be gotten rid of pretty quickly, especially if I just get this over with quickly, It'll all work out!” As all the students begin getting out of their seats to get to their partners, Mizuki gets up and begins to walk over to the desk in the back that Tobias sits at. As she walks, the girl who was talking to her earlier about Tobias stops her for a second. “Wow... Mizuki, of all the people in the world... Well... Have fun.” The girl smiles a bit while saying this. Mizuki puts her head down a bit more and continues to walk to the back desk. When she gets there she pulls out a chair and sits directly in front of Tobias. She refuses to say anything by thinking she'd be noticed right away. Tobias is still focused on whatever it was that he was writing, he doesn't seem to notice Mizuki yet. “Hey... Stupid.” Mizuki says as she taps her finger on his desk. Tobias still doesn't respond to her in the slightest. She knocks on his desk as if it was a door, to grab his attention better, an this seemed to work better. “Hey I'm talking to you!” Finally Tobias reacts to this and looks up at Mizuki. “I do not believe that you were in fact talking to me, considering that you didn't say my name it was not a real conversation for me to start with you. I did how ever hear you use the word stupid, I figured since I didn't view myself as being stupid, I simply assumed that you were speaking to someone else and therefore I did not respond to your comment.” He said this with his cold eyes staring directly into Mizuki's eyes. “Listen stupid, we have a project to do, and I just want to get this over with so that I don't-” Mizuki seemed to begin her statement but was interrupted by Tobias. “I see, that time it was obvious that you were directly associating the word stupid with me. Could it possibly be that you do not know my name in that case it would make some sense for you to call me by a different name, although still wouldn't it just make more sense for you to simply ask me directly for my name instead of coming up with a name for me?” “Okay... Is that how were going to do this then? Well fine. Yes, I know that your name is Tobias, you do not need to tell me that, I already know and so does everybody else! I was calling you stupid because-” Tobias begins to interrupt her again. “Well now I am very confused by what you are trying to accomplish here by calling me by the name stupid, because if you already know my name than it would be obviously strange to call me something other than my actual name. Unless if you were trying to use the word stupid as a derogatory term. If that is what you were trying to do, then wouldn't just make more sense to say that I am stupid instead of calling me stupid as a name? That would after all be the better usage of that particular word.” For a few seconds Mizuki just stares at Tobias in amazement. “Okay... You're mentally retarded.” “No, That is a mental condition that is involved with under development of the brain or can be caused after major damage is applied to the brain, I can assure you that I am under no such condition and that I have a fully developed and non-damaged brain.” “Okay! I get it! You are not stupid, listen can we get started on working on this project!” Mizuki is getting pretty angry at all of this. “Yes, I agree this project should be pretty simple. If I work with it into my proper schedule it should take me at most a week to do this. I can take it home with me and work on it from there. Thank for your time.” Said Tobias with a stale sense of confidence. “No, I don't think you are understanding the current situation we are in right now. See I'm here to work on this project together with you as a partner project.” Mizuki says this showing a bothered look on her face. “Ah... I see. This is quite an interesting development... I've never really needed to work much with other students within the classroom, let alone one that is a female...” Tobias begins to think about what he had just said. He then grabs all four of the papers he had filled with writing and began to crumple them up, he throws them to the side and pulls out some fresh new paper and begins writing something new. “What the hell are you doing? Is that work for our main project?” Mizuki asks hoping that it would be. “No, I am currently writing out the probability of how well I can do on this project even with the interference of another student. Even with that it's still more problematic because I am having to deal with a female student as a partner, which can cause problems due to our physical differences from each other.” As Tobias says this he stays completely focused on his writing. Mizuki just continues to look at Tobias with large amounts of confusion. “He's so good looking... How is it possible that good looks can be wasted on a guy like this? Isn't it supposed to be, that guys that have personalities like this are supposed to be ugly looking or something like that. I feel kind of sorry for those girls that fell for his beautiful face. I wonder what the hell he gets out of writing weird crap like that too. What was really weird is it seemed like he had put a lot of work into writing whatever it was that he was writing previously, and then he just simply crumples it up and throws it to the side...” Mizuki picks up the crumpled up papers on the ground and begins to open them up and read them to herself. “Simple understanding of the logic behind test taking. Most test taking is obviously pointless due to it's simple regurgitation of material that does not show anything new accept for the fact that you are able to keep the material that you have already learned inside of your memory. That is mostly it's only main service. It is mostly understandable that test taking might be important to the people that may have trouble with memory and such, but it never uses the material learned for much of anything constructive... ...What is this! This is just a long essay that explains the importance and pointlessness of Test taking? Some of this I can barely even understand! Some of it just seems like garble! He even gets into details about how the brain works with memory and how it applies to the use of doing a test... He's so... out there... it's just weird... How can a person possibly think this much about something as stupid as taking a test?” She just holds the papers in front of her with a face of confused amazement. Tobias stopped for a moment to think about what he was writing and he had then noticed that Mizuki was reading his crumpled up papers with a weird facial expression. “I noticed that you have a confused expression on your face is there something wrong that I may try to assist you with?” “No, no, I'm fine... I was just looking at your writing here... You put a lot of thinking into this... why did you crumple it up and throw it aside?” Mizuki forgot about being upset and actually showed some curiosity. “I simply lost interest in it, and it's kind of pointless to continue something that you have lost interest in... well that is unless it is required to get a specific job done, but that you are holding is more leisurely than it is required, so if I lose interest it is just simpler to give up on it and start something new of interest.” “But... but this is huge! I sort of feel like I'm reading directly from a collage text book!” Mizuki replied with real interest. “Do you read Collage textbooks often?” “Well no I don't but... I'm sure if I did it would be a lot like this... Do you read Collage textbooks?” “No not really, I don't really like reading too often. I don't like reading mostly because I tend to learn better from my own personal experiences with the world, you ca learn a lot by just paying attention to what goes on around you.” Tobias answers this as he begins to start writing again. “Really? I always found the world mostly boring, never taught me much... but I think I'm doing pretty good getting through life!” Mizuki flips her hair back and grows a small smile on her face. “Is that because you think you are pretty?” Tobias says without lifting his head from focus on his writing. “...What?” Mizuki says this completely caught off guard from the statement. “Well I'm assuming that with the way you stated your words and how you just flipped your hair to show attraction to your face, you are trying to state that you think being pretty helps make your life a bit easier. Is that because you know most of the guys will give you a double take when they see your body, or is it because you believe that someday you will have a boss who will look twice before establishing a glass ceiling for you to work around?” Tobias stops writing as if waiting for an answer, but does not lift his head from the focus of his paper. Mizuki stays quiet for a moment. She looks sort of surprised by that comment. She then puts her head down as if she's in an embarrassed rage. “Listen you! I'm not going to lose my cool just because you're a complete ass hole! Now are we going to get this project started or not!” “Well see I'm sorry if it seems that my statement was a bit more insulting than how I intended it to be. I'm just trying to explain that there is not much logic behind simply being good looking, except for the fact that it allows you to become accepted by certain groups of people. Although it is an important fact that you wont be able to make it to far into a good career unless you have good hygiene. So Beauty aspects of a person are perfectly understandable, for them to be accepted by the rest of society.” Tobias seemed to want to reason with Mizuki. “Yeah! Well you're one to talk! Look at you, you're considered one of the most attractive guys in the school! If you weren't such a jerk to people maybe you would be one of the hottest and popular guys in the school!” “Okay, It's not like I chose to be good looking, if that's what you want to call it, It's a side effect of living a logically healthy life style. Eating right, keeping in shape, being active, keeping my mind busy, and washing myself every day with soap and shampoo. That's all I did to end up looking like this, I wasn't intentional, I just did not choose to shorten my life span by not being healthy. I don't use beauty products and things such as that, they have no overall purpose of improving my body therefore I have no use for them. As for being popular, it does not make sense to do so either. Doing something like that would not generally benefit me n the long run. Also I don't intend to be a jerk to any one. I am called that often mostly because I believe that people are misunderstanding the situation in which they have put me into to participate in. They ask me questions or want me to help or assist in something, and I will apply myself to the situation with logic and truth, I also try to apply to people through making sure they understand my full intentions and can still be pleased with what that is.” “What? Okay fine then! How do you justify your actions for what you said to that first year girl before class started?” “Justification? Well I don't really believe in making excuses if that's what you are asking for. It's just simply that I thought about the situation that I was put into and realized that if I said no then the girl would be upset. So I asked her that, if I said yes would it make her happier, she told me that that would make her happy, so I said yes. Then she asked me how I really felt about the situation and I simply told her that it doesn't really apply to me but applies to her and her feelings about me, and apparently she seemed to reject that answer and then assaulted me with her palm.” Mizuki just sort of looks at him for a moment, confused with wanting to know if what he just said was a good reason for doing what he did. “Listen up Students, This period is about to end, but the rest of the classes have been allowed to be put aside for the next couple of days to allow more focus to be placed on this project. So you will all be allowed to go home early but I'm depending on the idea that you will go home and work on these projects and put lots of hard studying into them. I suggest you also work together with your partners at your homes in order to keep the project together as one main assignment between you and your partner. That is all and you may go, have a good day!” “Great now look! We haven't worked on this project a single bit!” Mizuki seemed agitated once again. “You shouldn't get so angry, From what I understand that it's bad for your face.” Mizuki's face quickly changes back to normal and she feels it with her finger tips. Listen we can work this out... I will come to your house tomorrow, since tomorrow's a Saturday. You don't have any plans that day do you?” She looks at him and he just kind of looks at her quizzically. “Plans...?” He responds. “Um... Never mind... listen just give me your address and your cell phone number.” Mizuki holds out her hand. Tobias quickly writes down something on a piece of paper and hands it to her. She quickly looks at it. “Uh what about your cell phone number?” “Well Mizuki, I do not carry a cell phone with me because it would not make sense for me to have one, I do not associate myself with lots of people and therefore have no use for a cell phone, plus I'd have to pay for it, but whats the point of me paying for something that I would never use.” “Oh good God... please tell me that you have a house phone!” “Yes I do have one of those, it came with the apartment that I'm living in. That is a phone that I use more commonly for various reasons that make sense to keep it around.” He quickly writes that phone number down on the same piece of paper and quickly gave it back to her. “Wait did you say apartment? Are you living alone?” “Yes I do live by myself, it's easier that way in a one room apartment.” “So you don't live with your parents?” “No I left my home to come here for school, my parents chose to pay for my living place, but soon enough I will be able to work on my own and will tell them to stop paying for me. I do not like the idea of having to depend on them to support me.” “Huh... I see... So we'd be there all alone?” “Well yes, it is after all a one room apartment with no one else accompanying me in it. It would be most troublesome if someone else was living there too, after all it was built with only one room in mind.” Mizuki began to look a bit nervous with the idea that it would just be the two of them in the room. “Great... Now what do I do? I don't want to be stuck with this freak alone in his room... God only knows what he'll even attempt to do...” “Well I must be going, I need to be able to get back to my apartment within a reasonable time so that my schedule will not become to messed up. I still need to make myself dinner and then prepare for working on that project with you tomorrow. I will probably spend most of the night finishing up this paper anyways, I need to make sure I understand the proper settings behind forcefully working and spending time with a female of my age... I might be up all night on this.” Tobias grabs his collection of papers and puts them into his back pack and then leaves with out a second notice. “Well I guess I better get going also... This is so stupid...” Mizuki walks back to her desk and begins packing her backpack full of all of her stuff. She begins to walk down the stairs and out of the school building in silence. She walks towards the bike rack and unlocks her bike and gets on, she quickly begins to peddle out of the school premises and as she does she passes by Tobias who seemed to be counting for some reason on his fingers. She began to raise her hand as if to want to wave, but quickly put her hand down. He obviously wasn't paying attention so it didn't much matter. “Well it's still pretty early in the day... I wonder if there is anything to do around here to pass some time before I go home to waste the day away...” Mizuki's cell phone makes a ringing sound. She quickly grabs at it as she begins riding down a hill on her bike. “It's Minoru... I wonder what she wants...” When she reaches the bottom of the hill she opens up her phone to read the text message. It says, “Hey Zuki! There's a huge rumor spreading!”. Mizuki quickly texts her back, “Yeah and what's that Mino?”. Theres a few moments of silence as she waits for a response. The phone rings again for a text message. She quickly reads it, “You befriended the Infamous Tobias.”. She looks a bit upset upon receiving this message. She begins typing, “That freak? I'm forced to do a project with him.”. This time after sending that message she got a much quicker response. “Oh, okay that makes more sense, talk to you later then.”. Mizuki gets back on her bike and begins riding through a neighborhood. “I can't believe a rumor like me being friends with a freak like Tobias would spread so fast, well at least Minoru asked me about the rumor to see if it was true or not. I don't even like that freak, I mean he's got some interesting aspects about him, but he's so freakish and doesn't know how to deal with other people it just makes him look like a big idiot. All I want to do is get that dumb project done and get him out of my life as soon as possible. That will make me so happy, then I might be able to continue my happy popular school life and make some real friends besides Minoru. I like Minoru a lot, but it kind of sucks that we can't seem to have any classes together.” Mizuki rides up to a pretty good looking average house. She parks her bike inside of a small garage, and then walks up to the door and unlocks it. “Hey Mom! You home?” “I'm in the kitchen Zuki!” She walks over to the kitchen and meets her mom, who looks almost like Mizuki except a bit chubbier with curly hair and a slightly older look to her. “How was school? You were let out kind of early today?” “Yeah, I got stuck doing this huge project with this really weird guy, The project is the reason why they let us out early, they expect us to use the extra time to work on this project outside of school. It's a big history project.” “Huh... Weird guy huh? How is he weird?” Her mom asks curiously. “He's just really strange. I mean if he would just not talk to people he'd be one of the most popular guys in school, cause he looks so good, but instead he goes around ruining his good looks by being weird and pissing off every girl that confronts him!” “Huh, that does sound really strange. He purposely makes people angry at him? Is he a thug?” “No he's not a thug... I don't exactly think his insulting is intentional... He just seems to look at things differently than other normal people do... I don't know... It's just very weird...” “Wow, He sounds like a real interesting guy, maybe he just seems weird because he's not like everybody else. Maybe he can teach you something...” “Mom, I don't think you quite understand this situation, if you ever met him you would probably want to kick him. He made a couple scenes in class today, once against a girl who simply had a crush on him, she ended up slapping him in the end, and also he challenged the teacher against the idea of taking a test. I'm not a hundred percent sure... but I think he won that argument!” “Well I'm sure he's just been brought up differently and is just trying to get used to his surroundings, maybe he's not used to dealing with lots of people.” “What ever... I got to go to his place tomorrow to begin working on this dumb project. I'm going upstairs, I need to plan out how I'm going to get any ideas through his thick skull tomorrow.” “Okay have fun dear.” Mizuki begins to go upstairs and goes into the first room on the right, on the door is a small wooden sign that says, “Zuki's Room!” It's also got a picture of a kitten engraved on it. She lays down on her frilly bed with white blankets. She grabs a small kitten shaped doll on her bed and squeezes t real tightly as she looks around her room that looks pretty average, light green walls and a desk at one wall with a computer, a closet at another end, and also a window. “God, he is just so strange and he even insults me and other people with out even noticing it at all... I can't believe him...” She thinks about what he said to her at school and it shows up as a short black and white flash back. “Is that because you think you're pretty?”. She looks a bit sad thinking about that. “...I am pretty...” End of Episode 1. Preview of Episode Two: (Mizuki's voice) “This guy is a total jerk! I can't believe that I have to work with him on this stupid project! (It shows Mizuki looking really angry.) Well I guess it's not so bad... At least he's really good at these kinds of things... (Shows Tobias working very hard and writing things down quickly.) Although he seems a bit weird, he says some pretty amazing things, crazy guy even makes me rethink a bunch of things that I never thought could even matter. (Shows Tobias explaining something to Mizuki and Mizuki's face looks amazed to hear it.) What's really crazy is a lot of it makes sense am I loosing my Mind too? Next time on He Holds the World in his Fingers, The Project from Hell! Part Two!” Copyright 2009, Michael Reznick All rights reserved. |

This story's detail and style are so radically different from Bomb it Down, that it doesn't feel like they're both by you. Episode 1 of Bomb it Down was clearly raw and unedited, whereas this is a triumph of good grammar and carefully constructed detail.
Speaking of the form, it seems that I have finally met my match as far as episode length goes; out of curiousity, I copied the episode into a word document and formatted it in the same way I format my episodes. It came to eleven pages, considerably above the average page counts for both Urdumkeit and Chthonia, which were eight and nine and a half respectively. I felt like the formatting for the dialogue is unfortunate. You don't use the most clear format. Here's an example of what I would reccomend: "That's stupid," said Mary. Sometimes you follow up a line of dialogue with a somewhat related, but still seperate idea in the same paragraph, rather than starting a new one. Example: “Tobias, why do you continue to fail all of my tests? You seem to do the study work and homework just fine, so why do you refuse to do the tests?” The teacher looks at Tobias quizzically. He stops and does not react, he seems to give off a feeling of thinking. Why is this all one paragraph? There were also a couple of instances where certain words are capitalized for no reason at all, as if they were proper nouns. I don't remember where they were, and I don't have the time to spend sifting through for them. Now, for the stuff that really matters. The dialogue usually sounds quite natural (of course, Tobias's dialogue does not sound natural because it's not supposed to) I didn't feel pulled into your setting, but it was good enough. I understand that lengthy explanations are all part of Tobias's schtick, but the way he talks is simply unpleasant to read. I don't want to have to read an absurd exposition on some tiny detail of his decisions any more than your characters want to hear them. His explanations are not only long, they are frequent. Half as many of these incidents would have sufficed to make your point about him (that he is logical, as well as a couple of other facts). If that weren't enough, after everything that Tobias does, Mizuki has bits of narration that lengthen it all further. I know that you need to establish what she thinks about him, and that you plan to have a narrating voice with a lot of personality, but it is simply annoying to hear her think what we already knew she was thinking. Now that criticism is over, some passing thoughts. The question, of course, is this: Tobias is always talking about "things benefiting him" and how he doesn't see a point in doing it if it doesn't benefit him. What does Tobias actually value? What does he consider to be beneficial to himself? There has to be something, or he would never do anything. Perhaps he just does what he feels like. Oh well. Bring on episode 2. |

(<-- Excitement over my first criticism!) Okay... So let me start with your comment about Bomb it Down... Yes what you said is true, I put a lot more detail and thinking into this than I did in Bomb it Down. The reason is because Bomb it Down came right off of the top of my Head and to tell the truth, I kind of don't find it as interesting as this story. It's sad but true. Yes, I do know I still need to work on my formatting, I'm still getting used to it and how to put it all together. I'm sorry if my formatting still seems to be off, but I'm going to attempt to cut down a bit on the unimportant actions dialogue. Oh also the whole capitalized words for no reason, (lol) it's a really bad habit I've picked up through school that I'm trying to get rid of. That's the only simple way I can explain the unnecessary capitalization. Yes I know Tobias's explanations are a little uncomfortable to read, even though he's purposely built like that, I think I will try to lighten up his explanations a little bit to get the point across but also not driving the reader completely insane. (lol) I'm not going to lie, hearing that comment about Mizuki completely caught me off guard about her being annoying. So now that you have made me aware of that, I will be reading over the story again and paying attention to her narration to see if I can catch the annoyances. I will do my best to improve on her narration a bit. Okay yes, Tobias's motives are fairly complicated and confusing but I plan on getting into that a bit more in episode two. I wont go too deep into his intentions because I want to establish them in some other episodes, but I promise I'll start giving you a better sense on why he does what he does in the next episode. In fact I'm going to start working on episode two today because I got some serious free time on my hands right now. |

Wow, great 2nd story, though is not my genra of experties... not good at that logic stuff, I was taking in by it and most importantly I kinds of stablished a good real life link with the characters, that is always good for a readerr to identify someone with the story being told.
O ver all good ep, good organization, though it took me a while to read, it was long. lol but in a good way, I wish I was able to write long eps like that, but my stories r not formated in that style. lol What is the deal with that guy, he seems really intricked, his thoughts r very detailled and complex for someone his age, I got to admit, he got my attention. lol I can't wait for next ep, keep up the good work! |

Ugh... I'm still stuck working on the second episode... I'll try and get it done this week. I'm just having a bit of trouble trying to get to a certain part of the story... Just some writers block, as well as trying to work in a new character to the story.

Hello everybody! So to my surprise, some people really wanted me to come out with the next episode of this story and so now here it is. I was very skeptical about letting this series continue, mostly because I had lots of ideas for it but I had no real idea how to work with them, but I'm going to try my best to harness those ideas and let this series continue. This episode is a lot like the first episode, there is not a whole lot of action going on and there's a whole lot of talking. I'm just trying to get the background built up before it really takes off. Anyways I hope you all enjoy episode 2 of HHTWIHF!
“He Holds the World in his Fingers” Episode 2; The project from Hell (Part 2) ** Spoiler Alert!!! click to hide or show** The sound of a cell phone begins to ring on a bed side table. Mizuki's arm extends out from her frilly blankets to grab hold of it and presses a button on the side of the phone to silence it. She then pulls the blankets away from her face. She looks up at the ceiling with drowsy eyes. “Today, the day of working, a day that is being forced upon me... I have to get up and get dressed and go to his house.” Mizuki whimpers at this thought and lays her arm over eyes as she still lies in bed. “I can pretend that I completely forgot... Or maybe I can tell him that I am sick... I don't really have to force myself to get out of bed and go to his place.” A knocking is heard on her bedroom door. Her mom calls into her bedroom. “Zuki! You should probably get up, you need to go to that guys house and work on that project.” “Damn she remembered about it...” “Okay mom I'm getting up.” Mizuki quickly throws the blankets off of her and begins to get dressed in some casual looking clothes, includes tight jeans and a tee shirt. “Hey mom, I'm not to hungry this morning so I'm just going to walk over there and maybe pick up some lunch later.” “Okay see you later dear, hope you get along with that strange guy.” “Yeah we'll see...” Mizuki leaves the house looking a bit gloomy, but when she gets outside she looks around her a little bit and grows a small smile on her face. “Wow... It's so nice out today. It's only my luck that I have to spend it doing a project, let alone doing it with some creepy guy like Tobias.” She pulls out the little piece of paper that Tobias gave her that has the address and phone number on it. “Well I should probably give him a call before I go to his house...” She dials in the number and listens to it ring. It then goes to a message machine, but surprisingly the person on the answering Machine sounds like a young girl. “You have reached the apartment of Tobias, This is Akiko speaking for him, He is not here at the moment and I'm not here to pick up his phone, so please leave a message at the beep. (BEEP)” “Um... Hi, Tobias it's me Mizuki, I just wanted to let you know that I'm coming over, I hope you'll be there when I get there, so get ready to start that project.” You see Tobias sitting up against a wall in his apartment listening to the message as it comes in from the machine. Mizuki is walking along the streets of the neighborhood thinking to herself as she goes along. “I wonder who Akiko is? He was telling me yesterday that he lives alone... He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to have many reasons to have to tell lies...” Mizuki continues to walk quietly through the neighborhood looking down at her feet as she walks. “Is she maybe a friend of his or something? It seems near impossible that anybody could possibly be a friend of his. I mean I'd figure that any person that would really confront him would end up hating him, especially if it's a girl. I'm even more surprised on the idea that he hasn't been beaten up by anybody. You'd think that he would maybe be unintentionally rude to the wrong person and then possibly wind up dead due to a slip of the tongue... I wonder why he acts the way he does, somebody doesn't just act that way merely because they feel like it or are bored, there's definitely got to be a much larger reason why he has that kind of personality.” Mizuki stops and looks up at the address of a building, which matched the address on her piece of paper. It was a simplistic looking Apartment building with only two floors. She begins to walk up to the building and then enters it when she unintentionally bumps into a girl who is slightly shorter than her with black hair and brown eyes. “Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you, I wasn't quite paying attention.” Mizuki says to the girl. “Oh no don't worry about it, I'm just cleaning up around here, I wasn't expecting there to be any guests around the apartments, my name is Akiko, I'm the manager of this building.” Mizuki looks at her kind of surprised. “Ah! So you were the girl who left the message on Tobias's phone! Well it makes sense now!” Akiko seems amazed at hearing the mentioning of Tobias's name. “Y-You're here to see Tobias?!” Akiko gets a sense of worry on her face. She looks at Mizuki a bit more carefully sort of like she's doing a full scan of her body. “Yeah, I called his phone and heard your voice on his answering machine.” “You know, a pretty girl like you shouldn't be here then... If you confess to him he's going to not only reject you but also make you feel awful about yourself...” Akiko says this looking as if she feels bad for Mizuki. “Huh?” Mizuki replies as if she misunderstood her. “I've seen a few other girls come here in attempt to do the same thing and they all left here the same way, crying.” Akiko looks sort of saddened by this. “Oh... um... No I think you misunderstand, I don't really like him, in fact I think he's kind of a jerk, I'm here because I have to work on a project with him for school, so thank you for worrying about me, but there's not much to worry about.” Mizuki puts on a small smile as if to try and reassure Akiko. Akiko thinks about this for a little bit as if still suspicious of Mizuki's intentions. “Do you think you could show me to his room, I really just want to get this project over with as soon as possible...” Mizuki says towards Akiko with a friendly smile on her face. Akiko began to lead Mizuki towards the second floor of the building and took her to the room that had Tobias's name on it. Akiko then knocks on the door. “Hey Tobias, It's Akiko! There's a visitor here to see you, she says that it is for some kind of an important school project.” You can hear the sounds of him walking around in the room, then the sound of the locks to his door began to click as he unlocks them. He then opens the door to his apartment which looks really dark inside. Akiko walks right inside and brushes past Tobias. She then opens up the blinds and lets in some sunlight to the dark room. When you see the room it is pretty much completely empty. There's a small kitchen but there is nothing on the counters, it is also spotlessly clean. The main room which also combos apparently as a bedroom was completely empty except for a single old house phone which was on the floor attached to an answering machine and was attached to a single phone jack in the wall. Akiko then pulls out a table from a closet space and sets it up in the middle of the room. “Thank you Akiko, I am grateful of your help around my house.” Tobias responds in his usual cold sounding tone of voice. “Of course it is not a problem.” She says with a cute smile on her face. “I am so glad that you have arrived at an appropriate time in order to work on this project with me Mizuki.” He says in his non-changing cold voice. “Um... Thank you for being considerate I guess?” Mizuki says sounding a little confused. “Yet fear not my fellow classroom subordinate, for I have applied all knowledge that I could muster up on our specific topic of the Roman Empires great Fall.” As Tobias says this he hands two separately stapled small stacks of papers. Mizuki grabs both and begins reading the top one. “Well good job you did all this research... and put it in a very presentable fashion... and put in all your references... and... you did all the work...” She looks a little dumbfounded to see that everything was done and given to her in this small stack of papers. “Well yes, I did the entire project after all.” He says sounding very simplistic about it. “You jerk! This is a group project! It's very obvious that all of this is your work, there's nothing in here that I can do! I refuse to use this as our final work to turn in!” Mizuki says sounding very upset about it all. “Hey you shouldn't be so rude to Tobias, I don't know you very well, but that looks like a lot of hard work that Tobias worked on there's nothing wrong with it!” Akiko stood up and yelled at Mizuki. “Well actually it wasn't too hard it only took a couple hours.” Tobias said plainly to Akiko. “Yeah and who are you to call me out? I've never met you till today so you've got nothing to do with this whole project thing!” Mizuki yelled back at Akiko. “Your just being harsh on him because he's a genius and you're not!” Akiko yells back. “God, you sound like his secret crush or something!” Mizuki yells back and Akiko blushes when she hears this. “T-That's not true! Who are you to s-say anything like that! Tobias and I have a perfectly normal manager attendant relationship!” Akiko yells back in defense. “Well I prefer to not have to do this project with a fellow student let alone a student of the opposite sex, in fact that's also why I wrote that second essay underneath the project I wrote up.” Mizuki then realizes what he had just said and then pulls out the second stack of stapled papers. She begins to read through them. “The distractions that may provide through the help of a fellow person of the opposite sex may include the often common sexual tension that can follow through in various situations that may seem common between two people of the same sex. As a common example someone could possibly trip on something out of view from possibly avoiding and begin to fall, to stable yourself you grab on to the person, which is not normally a problem, still if this person happens to be female, from a males point of view they may have to fear for their life, due to the common view of a woman's body being sacred whether or not the grab was only to help yourself or not. There are many other situations that could follow to this same sort of ending result...” Mizuki seemed appalled to read something such as this. “This is ridiculous!” Mizuki yells out at Tobias. “Yes in a sense it is kind of ridiculous how conflicts between opposite sexes may occur, and can even ruin most relationships between people...” Tobias agrees with her in a misunderstanding. “No! You are ridiculous! This is sexist!” Mizuki shouts out. “Well it may seem so but it's mostly just truth. See if I were to do this your obvious reaction would be to...” As Tobias is saying this he puts his hand on Mizuki's breast. She seemed surprised to this and then she reacted by getting angry and slapping Tobias as hard as she possibly could. He ends up with a red hand mark on his cheek. “You Perverted Jerk! What the hell is the matter with you!” Mizuki yells at Tobias. “Just proving my point, you did exactly what I thought you would, this sort of reaction can be expected in any form of situation whether intentional or not. You are female and it is a natural reaction for women to want to protect their bodies. I believe this to be a possible sex characteristic that has also been encouraged throughout history as well as propagated by how a child is raised in a civilized type of society.” Tobias says as he barely pays any attention to the bright red slap on is face. “No matter how you explain it that is extremely offensive! I mean you agree don't you Akiko?” Mizuki says as she looks towards Akiko hoping she'd receive some support. “Wow... Tobias... I've never thought of it that way... Just like what you were saying, she did that as an automatic reaction to being touched inappropriately! I would probably react the same way as well...” Akiko says this as she looks as though she is in deep thought. “Well no, it probably would not be the same right now because you are thinking too much about it and thus your reactions could be suppressed, but I do believe that if over time you forgot about it you would once more react in the same manner. Another really interesting thing about this is whether or not this reaction is based on muscle memory, as in she is raised to protect her body as a woman and thus her brain can trigger a reaction that if unwanted attention is applied to her body than she would automatically react to defend herself. This can also create a whole different problem which is created by common chivalry, due to the use of common chivalry in society, it is meant for a man to receive this assault and not attack back. That is how women over time have been able to gain these reactions and ways of thinking because men have allowed women to simply get away with it. It may sound sexist but that is just simply how it is.” Tobias had gone through a small monologue while Akiko sat back and nodded in extreme interest as she listened to him talk. “Well I'm sorry to interrupt your long well thought out monologue, but... THIS IS STUPID!!!” Mizuki had yelled out in rage. “No! You are the stupid one! Are you not listening to what he has to say! He's making a well thought out point that is obviously correct when you think about it carefully.” Akiko says in defense of Tobias's speech. “No No! That's not the point here! We haven't gotten anything done here at all!” Mizuki yelled back. “Why do the two of you yell so much?” Tobias asked. “Shut up! We need to work on this project and we haven't even started on it yet!” Mizuki yells at Tobias. “What are you yelling at him for! He got the entire project done! He hasn't done anything wrong!” Akiko stood right up to Mizuki nose to nose. “Hmm... This is actually real interesting...” As Tobias says this he grabs some paper and a pencil and begins taking notes while he observes the two girls fight. “It's obvious that you keep defending him because you have strong feelings for him!” Mizuki yells. “As the Manager of this building It's my job to take care of my attendants!” Akiko yells back. “Huh... It could be a possible fight of morals versus sexual attraction.” Tobias says as he continues writing down. “Yeah? Manager huh? How old are you anyways short stuff?!” Mizuki says with a small smile on her face as she pays attention to Akiko's small size. “I'm 20 and perfectly capable of Managing this apartment building!” Akiko yells back getting real angry. “Oh so now it's become a fight against dominance supported by age difference! Interesting...” “SHUT UP!” Akiko and Mizuki both turn around and yell this at Tobias. Tobias just continues to write quietly. “This is not going anywhere! Listen! I'm only here to get this project done! That is all and then I want to get the hell out of this apartment! If we keep going at this rate we wont be done till late at night!”Mizuki yells at the two of them throwing the papers she was holding down to the ground. “Well actually at this point you are just here on your free will.” Tobias replies back to Mizuki. “How could I possibly be here on my own free will, when I'm forced to be here to work on this dumb project with some psychotic unfeeling genius and some pedophile apartment manager!?” Mizuki yells pointing to both of them. “Hey I'm not a pedophile!” Akiko yells back quickly. “I completed the project last night, most of my fellow students would just accept it and leave, so yes you are just here at your own free will.” Tobias says still sounding as cold as ever. “Listen, I don't care how ridiculously smart you are, I am not just going to let you get all the work done by yourself, It's a group project and I want to be able to take credit for work that I have actually done.” Mizuki began to calm down a bit as she said this. Tobias stops his writing when he hears this. He looks up at Mizuki with his cold looking eyes and unchanging face. “Why would you want to do the work when I've already done it for you.” Tobias asked still looking at her totally focused. “What are you dense? I just explained! I may get credit for it, but it wont actually be my work, and I'm sure someone is bound to eventually discover that I had no part in it, and that can be drastically bad for my future! Now if you don't mind, get over yourself and help me put this project together!” Mizuki yells this back at Tobias. Akiko just sits in her same spot with a look of great surprise on her face. Tobias with the same unchanging face stands up. The room is silent, he walks over to where Mizuki was standing and picks up the papers off the floor and reorganizes them into their separate piles. He then quietly walks over to his closet and opens it up, you can see inside that it carries most of his household furniture as well as a few personal items. He then pulls out a strange shaped trash bin with a slot in it. He then plugs it into a wall outlet and he begins to put the papers into the slot and the papers begin to shred into the bin. “What are you doing!” Mizuki yells at him sounding angry again. “Do you always yell? I'm merely shredding the project work so that we may start over and work together.” He says calmly back to her. “Are you insane!?! We could have used that to help us for our work!” Mizuki says as she grabs at the basket that the papers were just shredded through. “Hey don't get angry at him, you wanted to participate in the project, so he's just allowing you to start from scratch!” Akiko starts yelling again at Mizuki. Mizuki puts her palm to her face. “Oh my god this is going absolutely no where...” She thinks to herself. “Okay... Fine... We'll start from scratch.” She says after sighing. “I think that would be best. Where should we start from?” Tobias replies tearing out the sheets of paper throwing them aside and preparing to write new work. “There's some cleaning I need to do. Just let me know if you need anything Tobias.” Akiko says as she smiles at Tobias and then leaves the room. “Heh... I bet living here with Akiko all alone is really nice.” Mizuki says to Tobias suggestively. “Yes she is indeed a very nice and caring person.” Tobias says back to her sounding very literal. “Uh... No, I mean you and her are... well... you know what, forget it...” Mizuki says looking grumpy. Tobias seemed to think about this a little a bit. “Are you trying to imply that I could possibly have a sexual relationship with my apartment manager?” Tobias says as bluntly as possible. Mizuki looks surprised to hear him say it bluntly like that. “Well geez when you put it that way!” Mizuki replies looking a bit embarrassed. “No our relationship is completely mutual.” He says this as he begins to write in his note book. “Well it's obvious that Akiko has serious feelings for this guy. I don't understand how, he lacks in charm, he's unsociable, I just don't get it...” She says as she focuses on him quietly writing. “He is really good looking... I mean when he just sits there and doesn't say anything...” She says as she focuses on his face. He then looks at her. “Is there something that you need?” Tobias asks curiously. Mizuki is sort of in a daze staring at his face. She then snaps out of her daze. “Uh, yeah! Um I haven't got any work done yet where do you keep your study books?” She says covering up for her daze. “I don't really use study books that often but I do have my school books and I'm sure Akiko has some books of her own that she'd let you borrow pertaining to our topic.” “Wait... You mean to tell me that you just know this stuff, if that's the case why do you not like school?” Mizuki says sounding surprised. “I do not just know these things I've read lots of books from the library so I just remember the information that I read. School work in general is not that hard to do because it's just repeating information on to material that the school provides. I do not really get anything out of school except suggestions once in a while of things that I might want to take the time to learn about when I have the time to do so.” He says as he continues to write down on his pad of paper. “So then if you are so smart then why don't you apply yourself in class?” Mizuki asks. “I don't feel the need to show off the fact that I am a bit quicker or smarter than certain people. I know what I know. Also school isn't really going to help me much anyways to progress in my life.” He says clearly. “What are you stupid or something? If you fail high school you wont go anywhere with your life! If you are so smart then shouldn't you be trying to do something about it and use it for some kind of good?” She says sounding a little worried about it. “I already have some plans for that in which I have confidence in for my future. You have no reason to be worried about my future situation.” He says to her sounding very firm. “Worried? Who's worried? I'm not worried about you. If you want to fail high school you go for it.” Mizuki says defensively. Mizuki taps her pencil on the paper which she still has not written anything on. Meanwhile Tobias is still writing away like crazy on his paper. There is a small bit of an awkward silence. “Um... Hey... Can I take a look at what you are writing down? It's all for the history project right?” Mizuki asks him, he then nods and hands her the paper he has been working on. She begins to read it and looks really surprised. “This is all accurate right? It's so well put together, and you don't even have any reference material in front of you! Yet still you have all these references in it?” “I'm really good at remembering things.” He says nonchalantly. Mizuki then begins to write things down as if using Tobias's work as a reference, as she periodically looks at it in between writing things down. “You are amazing at history!” She says amazed with his work. “I personally do not like it very much. There are lots of things that I do not enjoy about history.” He says as he already begins writing on a new piece of paper. “How could you not like history when you are so good at it?” She says as she continues to write things down based on Tobias's work. “Just because I'm good at knowing history doesn't mean that I automatically like it.” “Well why do you not like it?” She asks sounding very curious. “History always has me questioning how people understand things.” He says not stopping from his work. “What do you mean by that exactly?” She says completely stopping from her work. “Well I believe that history is built up of how we got where we are currently, as well as everything that proceeded in that process. Yet history doesn't really build up to anything in the end, because there is no real end. It's just telling people what happened between thousands of years ago up to what happened last month. The information isn't even always very helpful either because people will always be able to interpret a situation differently than somebody else. When one person says a king was a tyrant and then somebody else says that that king was the greatest thing to ever happen to that country. You may compare the bad things to the good things of that king but you will never know if he was more right than wrong or vice versa because opinions are important to history and can easily change our understanding of history. I don't like history.” Tobias says still having not taken his attention away from his paper. “History is very factual you can easily find the facts about things in history!” Mizuki says sounding a little upset about the answer he gave. “Of course history is factual but that does not have an effect on how people interpret those facts and how their interpretation from then on effects history and the people that they talk to about their understanding. Opinions always have the amazing ability to change facts, even if people deny it being possible.” He says glancing up at Mizuki briefly. “...Opinions versus facts...huh...” She said really thinking about it for a minute. He continues to write away on his paper and then throws it to the side to write on another paper. “Hey! Slow down, I have to actually do some work here to you know!” She says as she grabs some more of his work to write about it. “This really works, you can write down all the solid facts and research and I can do all the opinionated and understanding based essay work. We'll get this done real quickly at this rate!” Mizuki says with a small smile on her face. Tobias still stays focused on his work. Mizuki looks at the window where it is nice and sunny out. A transition on the window shows that it is now late afternoon. “Thank god I'm all done!” Mizuki says as she stretches a bit and then lays backwards on the floor. “Well I guess my calculations were right. Working with an actual partner in this project did slow me down by about three hours.” Tobias says to Mizuki who did not look to happy to hear this. “Listen you I want credit for this project that I actually earned. So don't be an ass about it just because I slowed you down a little bit on a group project!” Mizuki snaps back at him. “Well if you want to, you can leave now and I will see you in class tomorrow.” Tobias says as he lays down on the floor and closes his eyes as if ready to take a nap. “This is a great chance to just leave... then I wont have to see him until class and then after that I will never have to deal with him ever again! ...but... (She has a flash back to what he said about not liking history. “History always has me questioning how people understand things.”) He has such an interesting look on things... There are rumors of him being able to understand things and possibly bend logic with his way of thinking. No... I shouldn't, I'll just be getting involved in a troublesome situation...” “So Tobias if you don't like history what do you like?” She asks him curiously. “Damn my curiosity! I'm going to regret that.” “What I am interested in? I enjoy observing and researching things.” He says looking at her seriously while laying across from her on the floor. “Wow... well that sounds really boring... Why would you want to do that all the time?” she asks looking at him while laying on the floor as well. “It's just what I'm interested in. I like to learn things and then I like to see how I could use it to my advantage or interests.” He replies back to her with no enthusiasm in his voice. “Well like what? Give me an example of something that interests you specifically.” She asks him still sounding curious. “I find it interesting how the human mind can perceive things that can often be more complex than what we actually understand them to be. For instance I understand most things through the Anthropic principle which is based on the idea that everything exists as it is to benefit mankind. Then when you think about it that way you start dissecting somethings purpose and meaning.” He explains this in great detail. “I don't think I really understand what you mean by that, It sounds interesting but I don't exactly understand... Maybe I'm just dumb or something.” She says trying to understand what he is talking about. “No you seem to be a very motivated and socially intelligent female. I bet you could understand it if I helped you with it's understanding.” He says as if trying to cheer her up but failing. “Wow... are you really that rude and formal?” She says back to him without getting angry. “How is what I just said rude?” He asks her. “You made it actually sound like I am an idiot that needs something thoroughly explained to me.” She says still sounding calm about it. “Well you do need it explained to you better to be able to understand it better, is that not right?” He says questioning her statement. “See this is why you are infamous in our school... If you would just relax and stop being so literal all the time and focused on getting good grades you would be the most popular guy at school.” She says looking seriously at him. “I do not worry about being popular or not, I just want to understand things. I want to discover the world that people do not understand.” He says still with no emotion. Mizuki looks a little confused by this statement. “What does that mean?” She asks him simply. “I want to understand what does not make sense.” He says as simply as possible as if there's nothing wrong with this sentence. “Well that does not make sense. How can you understand something that does not make sense? Is there anything that is even like that though? Most of everything makes sense.” She says as if trying to question him while trying to answer the question herself. “Mizuki, why is there a universe?” Tobias asks as simply as possible. The room was real quiet for a moment as the two of them laid there on the floor with only the table separating the two of them. “...That question doesn't make any sense at all. The universe is there because it's the universe.” Mizuki says after having thought about it. “Still that sort of answer is an obvious remark from any person that thinks like a normal educated person. I'm not implying any lack of education or thinking, but something I've noticed throughout my studying of history, is that people just accept things that seem too complicated to understand. This is also just like what I was trying to explain before about Chivalry. Chivalry is something that people just accept, but there is no real solid logic behind it.” He says looking directly up at the ceiling of his room. “Chivalry is just being polite to the people around you.” She says back to him. “Yeah but the point is it's something we just accept. For instance the situation of before, I got slapped by you, which is accepted as a common practice in chivalry, but if I hit you back as a response to that slap, it could be considered a form of assault.” He said still looking at the ceiling. Mizuki turned to him and looked puzzled. He did not acknowledge the fact that she was looking at him, he continued to stare at the ceiling. “I think I almost see what you are trying to get at but how does this relate to the universe and it's existence?” Mizuki looked at Tobias very seriously. “Just as I had stated before, it's something we just accept. I think it exists the same way that chivalry exists. It seems right and so because of that we just accept it.” He says sounding as cold as ever. His position still not changed from laying on his back but he closes his eyes. “Then what do you think the universe is Tobias?” Mizuki says still not changing her focus from his face. “I think it's something that people fabricated because we want to understand. So when in doubt, create something vast and massive so that it can't be questioned. Almost everything in the world, when it is questioned thoroughly it gets to the point where the answer to the question is “Because that is just how it works.” ” The two of them just stay real quiet for a moment after Tobias says this. “Everything has an explanation. Nothing is magic Tobias.” Mizuki says finally breaking the silence. “It's not about Magic. It's about convenience. How is electricity so versatile? For some reason electricity is able to create signals through small metal wires that eventually translate to every action that a computer is able to produce on a screen.” Tobias says trying his best to make an important point. “Are you sure this is not about you just not understanding how a computer works?” Mizuki says sounding a bit skeptical about the conversation. “Although an object can perform an action that can be explained, it doesn't necessarily mean that the object or it's action make sense. I just think that the world works because we think it can work. We have nice things because we want nice things that work based on logic. Everything that you use exists because it makes sense for us to be able to produce it and then use it.” Tobias says as he begins to get up and walk to the small kitchen area and open up the fridge where he then pulls out a soda. “Well if everything has that slight impossible aspect to it then why can't magic exist?” She asks sitting up from the spot looking towards him as he pulls out the soda and opens it up to take a drink. “Two important things to keep in thought.” He says as he shows two fingers. “One, the five senses, and two, logical doubt.” He says and then takes another sip of the soda as he sits down in the spot that he laid down on before. “Wait, so what you are trying to say is that the reason why we can't have magic is because we doubt that it is possible? So if I just start believing in something that is not real then I can make it exist?” Mizuki says in disbelief. “We have the universe don't we? Yet still, that is where the five senses come to be important. We only know the possibilities of what already exists, and we know it exists because our five senses; touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight, allow it to exist. As long as you understand somethings existence based on those senses it is free to exist. Plus our understanding of how the thing works is what supports it's existence. Magic doesn't have a direct science or understanding for it to exist, therefore it doesn't and it wont exist until a reason is provided for it to exist.” When he finishes saying this he takes a longer gulp of his soda. He the puts the can down and it makes a sound as if empty. “To sum it all up, everything is always in your head.” He says looking directly into Mizuki's eyes with his ice cold stare. Mizuki's voice begins to Narrate. “It was at the moment that he stopped his monologue and said his one sentence summary with those ice cold blue eyes staring at me, that I understood, He wasn't just a misunderstood genius. He was someone who looked at the world so carefully and understood it so strangely that it seemed he could change anything at his will. It was either that or I was just a complete moron. Call it an idiotic choice but at that second I had decided that I wanted to understand what this person could see that I could not. Although at the time I could never admit it, I wanted to spend more time understanding him.” “It is getting close to my normal dinner time. Should I prepare food for two or would you like to go home?” Tobias says as he gets up from his sitting spot once again and walks towards his kitchen area again and begins to open up his fridge. “I think I will go home. It's late so I should be home for dinner.” Mizuki says as she begins to get up from her spot. She then begins to grab up the materials into a pile. “Do not worry about the small mess, I'll get the papers in order and I'll pack them up later and bring them to school for us to turn in. You didn't bring a bag anyways.” Tobias says with his head still in the fridge while pulling out various items in preparation to cook. “Well I guess I will see you at school.” Mizuki says as she begins to exit the apartment. “Yes, I will see you again at school Mizuki. Have a nice evening.” Tobias says as he peeks out of the fridge and sees Mizuki leave. He then begins pulling out a frying pan to cook with. He then gazes over at the papers on the table where they were sitting and then focuses on the set of papers that had explained why it was bad to work with a female student. “...Although she is a distraction... she is different.” He says quietly to himself as if slightly curious. He then gets back to focusing on cooking. Mizuki then begins to walk through the apartment's hallway as she comes towards the exit. Akiko exits from a room and then looks surprised to see Mizuki. “You're still here? I'm surprised Tobias hasn't scared you off crying from this apartment building.” Akiko says looking suspicious of Mizuki. “Well he's strange, but I talked to him for a bit and he was real interesting to listen to...” Mizuki says as though she is deep in thought and continues to make her way towards the exit. Akiko just looks at Mizuki real strangely. When Mizuki exits she looks straight up at the night sky and begins to stare at the stars. “The universe is the universe... it doesn't need a purpose for existing... right?” She says quietly to herself. As she walks down the street with a confused expression on her face. The next day begins at school. All the students begin entering into the classroom and putting their finished projects up to the front of the room on a desk. Mizuki walks into the classroom and sits down. She looks behind her and sees Tobias sitting in his desk quietly scribbling things down into a pad of paper. “So... How was working with Tobias? Was it creepy?” You hear the sound of some girl asking Mizuki. “It was... different and interesting.” Mizuki replies back without changing her focus from Tobias. “What is that supposed to mean?” The girl asks again. “Alright students, everybody sit down. Class is starting, hopefully you all did a good job on your history projects.” The teacher says as she enters the room. She walks over to the pile of essays stacked on a desk and then sorts through them and then puts them on her podium up front. “I'll be sure to look over them and then hand them back in a week or so. Well it looks like you actually did your part of the project after all Tobias.” The teacher says looking pleased. Still, Tobias just stays focused on his writing and does not pay attention to anything the teacher says. Mizuki shakes her head and then sighs. The teacher looks upset that she's not being payed attention to. “...Tobias... Um... Tobias...” The teacher says kind of calmly trying to grab Tobais's attention. All the students look towards the back of class, and Tobias still stays focused on his writing. “Tobias pay attention in class!!” The teacher yells at Tobias. Tobias then stops his writing and looks up at the teacher with his cold stare, which seems to spook the teacher a little bit. “I am sorry teacher but I can not currently focus on what you have to say. I am currently focusing on an important theory that requires most of my attention to finish up on. As soon as I feel that it is completed and I no longer need to focus on it, then I will be able to focus on whatever it is that you find necessary for me to pay attention to.” Tobias says in a very calm manner and then immediately gets right back to writing whatever it was that seemed so important to him. The whole class was silent including the teacher. “What is it that could possibly need so much of his attention on? That would require him to have to act like that in front of the class?” Mizuki thinks to herself with a surprised look on her face. She continues to stare at Tobias in curiosity. Episode 2 End. Good episode. It was considerably better than the first. The problem with episode 1 was that you spent too much time making Tobias different and not enough time making him actually a character. Episode 2 has developed him and him personality more clearly. The stuff Tobias talks about is more consistant this time around, in my opinion. I found some of the things he said to be actually intellectually fufilling, like the thing about history.
By the way, is it wrong that I imagine that I imagine Tobias as looking like Karasuma from School Rumble? Because they're a tiny bit alike. ** Spoiler Alert!!! click to hide or show** ![]() |

I am glad you liked it. I really wanted to start getting into the more intellectual aspects of this story. Man, I am so glad you liked it because I was real worried about what people would think about the various topics I brought up in this episode. I mean mind you a lot of this character is also based on things that I think about philosophically and psychologically and such (except for the anti-social part...). So I was real worried that people wouldn't like it, that's also kind of why I tried to give up on the series. Then a couple friends of mine as well as some people on cunchyroll encouraged me to continue on it. So basically what I'm trying to say is I am really glad that you liked it intellectually, because it encourages me to continue he series. lol |
