The Kyoto Protocol is UN proposal on climate control. Kyoto is designed to limit green house gas emissions, in particular Co2. The Protocol is being heavily opposed by certain industrialized nations, including the United States, for a number of reasons. The Protocol will cause a significant raise in taxes, limit industrial development, limit energy suppliers, and cause financial issues for large industrial businesses.

French President Jacques Chirac has recently released a demand for all members of the United Nations to sign the Kyoto Protocol if they have not done so already. However, as US senator James Inhofe attested, Jacques has admitted that acceptance of the Kyoto Protocol is not about climate change. Jacques Chirac says that it is the ‘first step to global governance.’

The US and other key nations have yet to accept Kyoto for a number of reasons. Even Jacques Chirac admitted that the proposal has several short comings. The United States has focused on these as well as other key issues concerning Kyoto. Nations that have accepted the Kyoto Protocol have seen a significant increase in tax. In addition the proposal would limit development and industrial business.

The Kyoto protocol also works against nations like America and China favoring the UK, France, and the EU. According to Inhofe Jacques is so keen on forcing America into accepting Kyoto because it would help to burden America and allow nations such as France to better compete with America’s economic superiority.

Chirac has also proposed an UN tax against America and nations that have not yet signed in an attempt to pressure them into compliance. Tony Snow, a white house spokes person, criticized Chirac. Tony Snow noted that under the Bush administration America has actually done more for emissions than the European Union.

What are your opinions?

Personally I think Chirac can kiss my pasty white @ss. I dislike French Politics and my American ego is hurt by somebody trying to bullyrag my nation into following his will. I fear that America may be further distanced from the Kyoto Protocol by his meddling. As it stands I predict that under Obama-a staunch supporter of the UN-we’d probably agree anyway.

The Protocol focuses too much on Co2 and not enough on other pollutants. Co2 is actually a fertilizer and at least one UK agricultural company has begun to harness it for better growth turnouts. So, I don’t think it’s perfect. I do however think that it’s a step up and without the environment we have no future. I also see nothing wrong with America making decisions that would better our international reputation. America is one of the few nations that have yet to sign in. So, I’m okay with signing the protocol even though Chirac is a… Your opinions, please.

The Kyoto Protocal has good intentions, but it has too many flaws to really work unless they change it, or put a lot more effort into it.

First of all, though the US was present when the protocol was decided, it didn't even agree to it. The US is a hugely influential nation with great affects on the global economy, and US is also one of the worst CO2 emitters, so the fact that they're not participating kinda puts the whole thing in a bad position.

Another flaw is the way that nations can share points. The protocol requires that all nations limit emissions to a certain amount, and get "points" for how much less they emit, but the system gets messed up. In example, France can reduce CO2 emissions immensely and make lots of points, Spain can do nothing or emit even more CO2, but still get points if they pay France and get France's extra points. This is allowable, but it's kinda like cheating. If the countries don't all put their best efforts forth, it's already a doomed attempt.

The Kyoto Protocal also ends at the end of this year or in a few years, I forget which, but this means all of their efforts are in vain anyway if they don't intend to carry through.

well, another mistake with the treaty is in its accounting mechanism. it fails to consider the source of biofuels so if u actually use carbon fuel to make bio fuel, u dont get penalized in ANY way...

I don't believe anthropogenic global warming is occurring. Science doesn't support it and governments try to censor all opposition. The Kyoto protocol is destructive to nations. I personally believe global warming is a scam that is meant to play on people's fears so that governments can gain more power over their citizens and on a global level.

SO all the evidence that shows Global Warming is indeed a fact is just lies made up by evil Scientist? You do know that most meaning over 80% of scientist agree that Global warming is indeed a fact, and is happening.

Over 80% of scientists also believed in spontaneous generation and that the world was flat many years ago, human nature has not changed. Anthropogenic global warming has been proven to be false, but the world's governments won't have this be acceptable. Questioning global warming will get you fired at government institutions or from teaching at many schools. It is dogmatically pushed and all opposition is censored or crushed. On the UN climate panel there hardly (or none at all) global warming skeptics or deniers. the world's governments gain power over people through pushing this ideology, and it also brings the world towards globalism (something many countries want) by proposing a global problem that requires global action to stop. It's all political and it's fueled by scientists who receive money from the government to publish materials that support what they want to hear. The scientific community is highly corrupt and does what it is told.

The world was flat was not from scientist that was from people observation in the old days, without using the scientific method.
There is a difference from majority opinion and scientific Ideals and Theories.

'I get the idea you do not know the difference from a scientific observation, and a opinion based on dogmatic Ideals.'

Scientists made a theory and that theory was called spontaneous generation. The earth was believed to be flat by scientists as well. The scientific community is probably more corrupt then politics. Global warming became an issue when Al Gore made his move (or fabricated his lie) and presented it to the UN and the rest of the world. A politician was the one to publish this, not scientists. This politician went to scientists who would create graphs and charts that supported what he wanted to here (or pre-existing conspiracy scientists who believed this lie). Prior to political intervention there was no fear of global warming. Climate theories have been flawed for a long time, back in the 70's there was the fear of global cooling, this turned out to be false. The world and governments have globalism and power to gain by believing global warming. The government tries its best to censor any opposing scientists and they don't appoint skeptics or people who disagree with global warming. It's all one sided and all they do is come up with false apocalyptic predictions of "if we don't act now we'll all die in 5 years!!!" They try to instill fear in people to support this problem... It's all propaganda and fear mongering. We can see that the earth is cooling as depicted by the sun cycle. Polar ice is thickening and we aren't seeing this deadly heat wave prediction. In the past we know that the earth has frozen over (ice age) and warmed (the warm period) before industry and CO2 production by man. It's all political.
