For some people, because if you don't know something, it can't hurt you.
As for me, I think far more pure happiness can be got out of truly understanding something.

Of course it is.
Knowing more of how this world or the way people work leads to more opportunities of pessimistic views. Case in point, the whole "American Dream". It's a common expression which attracts immigrants to America, but in truth, this whole concept of opportunity is mostly false hope. Statistics show that based on your social standing of when you're born and your ethnicity does more to hinder your progression. Sure, there's maybe a very minuscule percentage who surpasses this idea and eventually succeeds, but it's very rare.

Secondly, if you knew the answer to life and what's bound to happen to you after you die, you eventually lose hope. Religion exploits this hope to give people a standardized meaning to their life rather than "nothing happens to you".

I can't say I do get some. They are idols now. Idols don't need any commitment, love, or bfs.
It's career before anything else.

Definitely, we would be able to not care about grades, hunger across the planet, how we look, or peanuts

There is another saying where I grew up: "Knowledge is power." While to a small extent The less you know can affect your general happiness, Most people would be happier if they didn't know there were people starving to death in third world countries, There is a far greater potential for happiness that comes with knowledge. By knowing things we make our lives simpler, longer, and safer. Doctors study for years so that they can know how to save lives. Imagine how blissful your life would be if you fell and broke your leg and no one knew how to reset the bone. I personally am grateful that our species has such a capacity to learn. I am glad that the Gathered knowledge Has given me such luxuries as a roof over my head and even the internet where I spend so much of my time. I don't think I would sacrifice anything That I know to be a little happier because even if you don't know it they are still starving.
