Drugs are bad.
Take the over-the-counter ones.

I'm not going to lie I have taken recreational drugs on numerous occasions, and still do once in a while, though not as often as I used to. I know drugs can cause a lot of harm, but your not going to overdose on weed and sending non-violent drug offenders to prison for years does not help anyone, it just takes up more space that should be used for the violent offenders, here in the U.S. it sometimes seems you can get more time for drugs than for rape or murder!

And I would love to go to the Netherlands, the people seemed so much more laid-back than here the states.

People are pretty uninformed, or rather misinformed when it comes to drugs.

While every drugs is harmful when abused, many drugs are "fine" when clean products, and when the user knows what he/she is doing.

Agreed, if drugs were legal (here in the U.S.) they could be strictly controlled by the government and wouldn't have all the shit that street dealers put in them, making them less risky and reducing fatal overdoses. Because if you know anything about the history of drugs, you know that people have been using substances to get high since the dawn of time and they will continue to use them, whether they are legal of not, let's try to make it as safe as we possibly can. If you want to see a good program about the history of drugs watch the History Channel's series called Hooked:Illegal Drugs and How They Got That Way, it covers all of the major drugs, weed, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, etc. and some of the reasons why these substances got banned (many at the turn of the last century) are surprising.

Yeh, and the wierd thing is, of all drugs we allow alcohol which probably is the one granting the highest loss of ability to control oneself.

Yeah, but for some reason alcohol is the accepted way to get shitfaced in Western society, while the other drugs (yes, alcohol is a drug) are seen as being deviant or something. I have a family member who was a bad alcoholic for many years, it can cause as much, if not more, damage than some of the illegal drugs.
