I remember hearing about some software that would trick the DS into thinking that your computer was another DS, the computer would then connect to game servers online ... or something like that...

Anyway, basically this allowed pretty much any game that had local multiplayer (like mario 64 ds) to be played online
In theory its possible ...
Anyone else know anything? I'm almost certain that I've heard of something like it

i've heard something like that, it seems like a good idea in theory but, who knows how the game will work in multiplayer? Nintendo didd't design the game to be so but alas, I'm no technician =p

there was some talk about that for pokemon diamond and pearl, but personally i dont think nintendo focuses on multiplayer and online capabilities as much as they do on single player experience

I know what you mean, good DS games are far in between, but care to shed some light on this?
A name or something?
And actually, yeah I have a friend who set it up so his DS charged via USB.

I'm pretty sure he just took the wires inside a charger and soldered them to a usb cable. >_>;;
probably not the safest thing in the world...

In fact it's possibly closer to the other side of that spectrum

I do not doubt it is possible to set up software that can act as a bridge to the internet for a DS. Though I have never heard of such a project before. However, I am sure nintendo has hardware checking in place to prevent that sort of thing from happening. So something like that would not be possible unless you do some hardware hacking.

Plus I would think that there are some fairly different dynamics to programming for local multiplayer and online multiplayer. Especially on the DS given its limited hardware strength.
