Tell your friend to seek professional help. I think she's only trying to get your attention.

If she lives in a huge house, then it's completely normal.

no personal thread

OT: I used to think there was someone in my house, so what I did is I just slept with the lights on

I have same problem. Turned out to be something i programmed early last year and it runs when even i turn my computer on. It transmits through my system speakers. Tell your friends to open the case of her pc and there should be a small speaker in it. Cut one of the cables (normally red or black, always go for the red one) then problem solved. (NOTE: if you cut the black cable you might find a ipod touch some where in your case. And normally its stuck inside the mother board which kills your computer)

She must be going delusional.

Stick next to her. Ask her if she still hear those odd foot steps. Don't agitate her by saying something stupid or sound defensive. Just confirm to her that you don't hear it as much as she does.

If it becomes worst, consult a physician.
