Here's my unbiased opinion. I just noticed that most users here in crunchyroll favor Japanese dramas more than Taiwanese or Korean dramas and this doesn't have anything to do with how great or how good the drama is by the way. They're favoring the Japanese versions just because it's JAPANESE. I think it's really unfair for Korea's, Taiwan's or any other countries' part.

Okay so for the Hana Yori Dango versions

Taiwan (Meteor Garden)- This version was the most faithful to the manga. It's one of the best dramas I've seen, although it's kinda old since this was like produced and filmed between 2000-2001. I get really upset when people bash this drama. They haven't even watched past episode 1 or 2 and they're already judging this drama by whole and hello?! Why keep comparing this to the Japanese version? Of course after having seen MG, Japan would try making their version a whole lot better. I actually enjoyed and preferred this more than the Japanese version. I think this version was the most unique and original.

Japan- I'm not implying that this version was bad. I gotta admit I also enjoyed watching this drama but could this drama get any more CORNIER ? The ending of season 2 was bad and the movie was even worst. It was soooo cheesy. But I like how they did with the filming and cinematography. The F4 actors weren't also that good-looking.

Korea- Okay, so I was a bit negative when I watched the raw episode 1 of BOF.... but I was patient... and waited for the subs of ep 1 and 2. One thing I have to say, don't judge this drama just by watching EPISODE 1 , I assure you that IT WILL GET BETTER . Watch episode 2 and you'll start liking and getting hooked on this drama. This version had the BEST CASTING EVER . I didn't like the girl at first because she's not that pretty, but thinking it over I realized that Tsukushi shouldn't be really too pretty. She's a commoner and she's plain, but she still managed to make the leader of F4 fall in love with her. Jandi has her charms and the guy playing Domyuji was really HAWT.

My Rating.
1. Korea
2. Taiwan
3. Japan

I totally have to agree on this
(:

You shouldn't judge a drama just on EPISODE 1 keep watching it to see if it gets better

Though I love HYD more, I still want to say that these three versions are unique in its own way. We cannot actually compare things that are incomparable. I mean, look.. these three adaptations are produced in different countries. So, we can say that these dramas are naturally based in culture. Every production tried their best to come up with something original. As shuttlehux said, it's too early to judge since Korean version is still starting. In this forum, I believe we are just being asked which version of Hana Yori Dango adaptation is for us the best. There's no need to criticize more since it will become bias for the others.

Hana Yori Dango Japanese version for me is one of the coolest drama I've ever seen. This made me really crazy over everything about drama - Japanese, Korean and even Taiwanese dramas. I like the how the actors did their job especially the lead characters. Though its too way anime-ish and exaggerating at times, I think that is just how Japanese do their adaptation. It's one of their traits. So anyway, I have also seen Meteor Garden before. The time that it was aired here in the Philippines was when I was still in 4th grade I think, and I already learned to love the drama. As from the article I have read in asianfanatics.net. Tw version is FIRST LOVE, Jap version is MOST LOVE and since Kor. version is not yet finished, let's just hang it until there first.LOL. So far, the Kor. version amazes me. They have their style and it is very unique. Different plot but same story. Different ways but same intentions. It is a creative production actually. And as I continue to watch it, I kept on thinking that this drama would also be as one of the best drama of the year just like any other adaptations of Hana Yori Dango.

Let's be proud of our all-time favorite drama.^^

i agree with you... i guess the taiwan's version's closest to the manga though haven't seen the whole eps of Japanese version, but i like how the taiwan's cast portray the role except for vaness wu, i mean i think he's the only one seemed so conscious and uncomfortable in front of the camera, always running his hand on his hair,LOL...and i like the soundtrack of the taiwanese more especially the piano instrumental... anyways, the korean's version is just okay, i don't like the girl's acting much, she sometimes overacted, but the guy is cool, he fits the role...
well, just an opinion

I disagree with the casting being the best in the Korean version. In terms of acting, I prefer the Japanese, NOT because they're Japanese. Good acting has nothing to do with race.

I can't tell you how many times I want to reach in a punch JanDi in the face whenever she has that blank doll look. She's unresponsive and ducks her head like a coward whenever there's confrontation. Is this the adaptation of Hanadan's strong and stubborn heroine or just a stereotypical shy girl who got 'lucky'?

In terms of superficial beauty, this one has it hands down. The cast is pretty, so are the things they own - so they have a bigger budget, they should've spend it on acting classes. This held my attention solely because of the handsome F4 and the luxurious settings (which is what kdrama excels in), and a small flicker of hope that things are gong to turn around (which it did at some points).

Still, there are so many plot-holes in the K-version that it's almost unbearable. Combined with the outdated Kenny G soundtrack they got going in the background, and the [edited] songs with Engrish phrases like "almost paradise" and "lucky in my life" [/edited] that get played inappropriately every 10 mins. Utada Hikaru, take me away!! If HYD is 'corny', then this one is overwhelmingly gaudy.

What really bothers me is how the cause doesn't really explain the effects of the story.

My overall impression of this drama, it's very up and down like a rollercoaster, some changes are so bad it's not even an adaptation anymore, some changes work very well that it gave me that glimmer of hope. However, don't try to confuse us with your eye-candy boys, we know bad acting when we see it. So it's not 'shit', but it's not the best, that's for sure.

I didn't mean to make such a long post, so I apologize - looking at the poll results, there's really no need to point out all the bad points in the K-version but it has been so overwhelmingly popular in the drama circle that I have to grit my teeth and tolerate all the 'omg, they's so hot, this version is officially the best one' comments.

It's edited (: I know the song titles, for those who don't know, I'm just pointing out the Engrish phrases not to be confused with the titles which isn't that much of a difference, but enough to be pointed out apparently.

I have watched all three (well Im currently watching the KOREAN version)

And I must say I'm sorely disappointed with the K version. I have expected a better version from the,

The TAIWANESE version was a bit "bookish" in a sense that they followed the manga to the hilt. However, despite their lack of funds back then, (Im talking about MG 1) they were still able to capture the Makino/Domoyji feel. Although the costume and cinematography wasn't above par and even some of the scenes were not edited properly-- I remembered thinking and CARING about the series

As for the JAPANESE version, they were able to give an ALMOST perfect adaptation of the manga. They were able to stay true to the theme of the story but at the same time condense all the important scenes in the graphic novel. When you watch the series, you feel that the episodes (from HYD 1 to HYD 2) were streamlined that each scene is important to the overall feel of the series. Plus, the series had better cinematography, gorgeous shots and takes, incredible acting and not-so dragging storyline.

So-- when I have heard that the KOREANs will be making their own version, I was excited because I loved a lot of K-dramas.

I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED because the scenes were not connected well (bad editing). The story is okay (if you haven't watched the first two versions) but I CANT HELP but COMPARE because I've watched all possible versions of this. So, I know that they are not highlighting the important scenes in the manga. They are just mixing the possible cute scenes to give an INSTANT GIDDY factor to the series.

My mother and I were watching the latest episode just an hour ago and they have finished the HYD 1 chapter (the part when DOmyoji leaves)... It didn't feel that significant as compared to how it was stressed in HYD 1.

Also, the bullying scene done by the male model was irritating to watch. A lot of close-ups when the scene needed the camera to give a wider view. ARGGHHH Im just so disappointed. THEY ALL look pretty but they can't really give the Character justice.
