70s Clothing - Why is it "tacky?"
Posted 1/17/09
(I searched -- I myself couldn't find a thread like it. if you can or have, I apologize. Obviously, it can be locked.)

In an article I read, it was stated that "70s" and "style" didn't mix or something rather. And though I wasn't born in the 70s, I kind of take offense to that. So there were outfits that didn't match and "strange" accessories but still, why does that mean they were ugly and what not? I personally think the clothes are really cute, and every time I leave the house I'm just dazed, because I know people from that decade walked here and there; I think it's amazing. I'm not saying every one has to see it that way. I just wanna know why the clothes are sometimes considered god awful.

Thats interesting because I've noticed that a lot of 70s styles are "in" now.
The fashion these days is really interesting in general because you can see influences from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

That's true but at the same time, putting one color with another is really just ungodly. And I wanna get a better understanding of why.

I think it's because when people think of the 70s, what they recall are the ugly colors and the reiible designs, like

I don't know I never thought 70s style was /ugly/. Just characteristically 70s.

Uuumm...where did you obtain this information? Because from what I'm aware of, the 70's is the most lovable decade. Which includes fashion.
-Sunglasses
-Prints
-Wacky earrings
-Platform shoes
-Jackets
-Mixed colours
-Tight jeans with wide pant legs
-Those puffy hats

The list goes on and on.

Yeah so?
Are you going to base the entire 70's fashion on just her post?
Allow me to post MY 70's picture.

Personally, I'm thinking of the horrid colors of my kitchen, built in the seventies, before we remodeled. There were loads of these light olive green tones, and then brown, orange, and this hideous mustard yellow.
The clothes are found to be unattractive now because we're interested in a different body shape now than before. It's changing all of the time. Consider those awful waist-high pants of the eighties and nineties; no one wears that sort of thing anymore because our tasted have changed.

i like those clothes (not that I would ever wear them) because it reminds me of that 70's show and they make people seem unique but at the same time cheesy and out-of-date
