In terms of anime connections, I feel the most important Tokyo ward isn't Akihibara but Nerima. Tezuka, Miyazaki, Ishinomori, Matsumoto, Rumiko Takahashi, Yoshiyuki Tomino, Rintaro, etc. either got their start there or have lived there. Toei Animation released the first modern anime there. It was a 1958 film called "Tale of the White Serpent". In 1961, we would have it released in US. Tezuka formed a company in the 1960s called Mushi Productions. After it would go out of business, a new "version" of it started in the 70s. This company would go to establish Astro Boy as first anime series with an ongoing story. Toei also pioneered in the giant robot and mahou shoujo (Go Nagai pioneered ecchi/fanservice in the male-oriented mahou shoujo) genres. So, I say that this is the most important one of them all.
