I think it's depends on the person. If the person has family that has weight problems, then it's up to him or her to stay away from fatty foods, and exercise more. It also depends on how hard the person is willing to work, to keep the extra weight off.

I don't think it is. Thing is, in today's society people don't want to hurt each others feelings by calling them fat but if you do hurt their feelings by making fun of them and calling them fat they actually may want to consider going on a diet or doing something to make them lose weight. The problem is, is that some really fat people have really low self esteem so by making fun of them they might consider suicide instead.

I would just like to say that being obese is not a conscious choice, you don't wake up one day and I want to be 80 lbs. heavier or this week or I will eat as much as two people or I want to be a size 18 etc..... There are many contributing factors to be overweight or obese and there are many levels of being overweight or obese, for instance the difference between being obese and morbidly obese. There is also something called a "hunter gatherer system" meaning your body works like it did back when we people hunted and gathered their food instead of going to the grocery store. If you have studied about compulsive over eating or bulimia or anorexia there are many factors to each of these diseases and they are diseases because they do not go away you just learn how to deal and work through them. For instance with bulimia there is not only vomiting there is also overeating and over use of laxatives and diuretics as well as over exercising etc...All of these are considered compulsive diseases like alcoholism or compulsive gambling etc.... People have the responsibility to themselves to change but it will not easily happen and will take an extreme amount of work and there will be a great great deal of pain involved emotionally and physically. I understand all sides to this issue I have experienced it personally and I believe it is possible to change but it has to be something you are willing to really look at in depth about yourself it is not usually an outward appearance issue it is an inside emotional issue. I hope anyone who is going through anything like this will be able to find the light at the end of the tunnel!

I suggest you use the search feature next time to avoid creating more duplicates. Also, it's not really courteous to use all-caps since it's viewed as screaming/shouting, which is rather ruthless towards the co-forum-goers.
