True Love Only in Christianity?
Posted 1/25/09 , edited 1/28/09
If your raging athiest, or some other religious extremist..
IGNORE No God or Religion bashing nesesary.
Topic for mature people who can discuss without being offensive or falling
into a rants and rages no one cares about..

I learned something new in skol....

Because of sin and evil in the world...
Christians dont necessarily believe in whats called a "soul mate"

The believe in finding the person who is best for you..
which can really only be done by God (since he knows all)
who doesn't judge by appearance like man but "looks at the heart"

They say when people seek relationships..
they either find Gods "Perfect will" which will have his 'blessing' on it
as the person he brought you together with, with purpose.
EDIT: thats reguardless of whether you believe in him or not

Or they find his "permissable will" which has no promise or guarantee
which is when he just allows you to do your own thing..

Hmm...True?

i believe that it isnt God's job to find us our "true love"..
its our own responsibility to find this "true love" of which you speak of..

if that were true, we'd be with the person who's perfect for us right from the start.
but instead there are those people who end up as battered wives, etc.

when people end up with completely ridiculous relationships, all i can say is that if God wanted us, His children, to be happy.. He would've "introduced" us to the person who's the right one.

but He wants us to make our mistakes and that's why He lets us choose.

but i think somewhere out there, there is a person God intends us to be with.
we just fail to look closer.

I dont think its his job to find our "true love" either..
but the thing is suggesting he already knows..?
Im sure he wants us to be happy but wouldnt introducing you to them
be kinda interfering with what you said about choosing yourself?

yes, yes. the FREE WILL thing is what's going on here.

everything i just said was contradicting each other since i knew that nobody really knows what God is doing. and that i just had to state out my thoughts. hehe.

No, definitely not.
Not only are there other religions that work that way, but who has really found his or her true love?? And judging from divorce rates there are not alot of people who have.(The divorce rate in America for first marriage is 41% The divorce rate in America for second marriage is 60% The divorce rate in America for third marriage is 73%, not forgetting the fact that even when they don't get divorced the marriage doesn't have to be happy)

There is no true love. Altruism does not exist and people just have a sense of duty to their partners based on societys norms and values.

You are too vague. Christianity sums up a lot of different types of denominations. Define what the term "soul mate" means, because with out that you ask an empty question.

In regards to relationships, some can say and believe God brought two people together, that doesnt mean it will be the best relationship on the planet, but it may produce something good. Christianity teaches that God gives us the power of choice, some relationships might be better than others. If it happens it happens, if not it doesnt. Remember the key to a relationship in Christianity is that men and women make up for what each of them lacks... two make a whole, it supposed to be balanced. In nature we see this too, + and - attract, and together they form a strong bond.

Life is a journey, what happens here is only one step in the over all process. No one can truly know about spiritual bonding...except for the dead.

God is not a match maker. We may seek his guidance and blessing, but the final decision is up to us.
