I'm tired of all this JRPG/WRPG crap
I cant help but feel annoyed whenever anyone says that, mainly because they are simply RPGs. I realize how different a game like Final Fantasy is from a game like Elder Scrolls, but the fact remains that they still belong to the same genre. I mean, we dont look at a game like Call of Duty and say "thats a RFPS" then Quake 3 and say "Thats a UFPS"
(R standing for realistic and U standing for unrealistic) Doing that would simply be ridiculous. And then what happens if Japanese company decides to make a game in the style of dungeons and dragons? (aka: what people call a WRPG)
would that still be classified as a JRPG because it was made in japan despite following so-called western conventions?

The RPG culture would descend into madness, madness I say!

Yup, and thats why we should forget all this region stuff and fight the real problems:
generic FPS that are being popped out like theres no tomorrow ... and how to write FPS in plural form u.u

Yes, they are both RPGs, and it's cool to put them in the same category, but to deny the difference is foolish. The regions' individual interpretations of rpg's is significant, and should not be taken lightly.

I'd say calling them JRPGs and WRPGs is completely alright. Not only that, but they have thier massive differences.

JRPGs usually have a linear world, and usually attempts to be more plot based, and usually has cel-shaded graphics. Most WRPGs focuses on freedom and likely either takes place in some fantasy world or in science-fiction. Many JRPGs also have a turn based combat system similar to Final Fantasy, while WRPGs have different combat systems. JRPGs appeal to weaboos while WRPGs appeal a more varied amount of people. WRPGs require skill and stragety to win, while JRPGs usually need high levels and good equipment to beat. The plot in JRPGs seem to try to be more in-depth, while WRPGs either do the same, or not.

I prefer WRPGs instead of JRPGs. Also, almost every free MMORPG sucks, and they're just clones of WoW that attract weaboos.

RPG is a vague genre and applies to almost any game.
