In the big screen adaptation, Goku is a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.

Actor/writer/director Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) is producing. Final Destination helmer James Wong will direct from a script he wrote. Ben Ramsey wrote an earlier draft.

The story is based on Akira Toriyama's popular manga that has spawned graphic novels, a long-running TV series and more than 25 video games. The Jump Comics division of Tokyo-based Shueisha published the "Dragon Ball" manga

This particular set is for "Unitech High School" where Goku will take classes. According to the site, the license plates of all the cars say "City Of The Future", while the cars themselves run on "solar cells". In the scene being shot, Goku is ridding a bike when the yellow sports car hits him.

The site also mentions that filming in Durango will begin January 2nd instead of the previously reported January 7th.

===========================================

Wow! With the crazy hair styles of today! His hair fit perfectly I don't really mind him turning him into a highschool student, I just hope Goku's personality stays true, I mean he stays pure hearted all the way till he's a grown man! Thats part of the reason why the fans love the guy! and If you look at his hair carefully, his hair is shaped exactly the way goku has his, except his hair is shorter so! Can't wait for this movie to come out!

O.O James masters as Piccolo!!! This is going to be ...er... interesting. Well I guess the whole idea of making a live action out of dragonballs is kinda scary when you know it's a hollywood film studio producing it. I wonder how acurate it's going to be. I'm kinda sad at how they did the hair. The only other live action adaption of an anime/manga that I've seen is deathnote, and I think they did a good job on L's hair, it looked realsitic, yet it had the same feel as anime L's hairdo did.

I think the movie's hair dresser needs to ask this cosplayer for some good tips!

his hair totally rocks!!

Chow Is Master Roshi!

The Hollywood Reporter has the story:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i5d843c633b3a47607c2975f14b9db2bd

Chow Yun-Fat is the latest to join 20th Century Fox's live-action adaptation of "Dragonball."

Chow will play Master Roshi. He rounds out a cast that includes Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum and Jamie Chung. Chow is repped by CAA.

-------------------------
More Casting. . .

McKlyde found an interesting article from El Universal with a few quick casting tidbits.

The site talks about filing in Mexico City with a few choice Mexican born actors playing unspecified students (Carey Fuller/Agundes perhaps?). Those actors are Luis Arrieta and Rafael Valdez.

British actor Julian Sedgwick will play a teacher. I'm guessing Mr. Kingery.

The site notes that the filming, which is to end on the 22nd, is for outside shots of extras and the city, specifically mentioning the futuristic look that Fox is going for. Also, don't expect talking animals like in the manga. They're out.
==========================

REALLY!? WOW!! DIDN'T EXPECT THAT!!! The Description on Roshi in this movie didn't say anything bout him being perverted, I just hope they include that part of his personality! WOW!

All About the Hair
Source: http://www.dragonballmovieblog.com/

Rokakarotto of LAA directed us to an article talking specifically about the hair in Dragonball, along with a few scene descriptions.

The site (here) has a few interesting tidbits:
- Justin Chatwin wont wear a wig because his hair is "already like Goku's".
- Most of the female characters (both lead and extras) will have unique hairstyles. Most notibly Emmy Rossum, Bulma, will wear a blue wig.
- There will be a lot of oriental influenced locations shown in the movie, including one where a "youth festival" takes place. According to the article, this is wear Goku and Chi Chi meet.

Also, after searching online I came to a new article from El Universal that says Emmy Rossum is now on set filming a scene were Piccolo attacks her father and takes off with his Dragonball.

The article also mentions the oriental inspired architecture, as well as Aztec Temples (perhaps for Piccolo?).
==========================
I don't know about you guys but I just can't wait till this movie comes out! Nothing but positive things flows in my head when I think about a movie based on an anime I adore! Who cares about the specifics!!! if it captures the spirit that is Dragonball than that's all that matters, till that day comes when I trailer arrives, I'll be waiting!

HHMMMM Bulma gets her Blue hair? SWEET! and Piccolo kidnapping Bulma's father? Hhmmm, interesting!!

How dare they i have seen loads of stuff on the new dragonball movie and frankly im disgusted i'm a great DB and DBZ fan and what they are doig in this movie is horrible!
1. there going to f***ing school? WTF?
2. Where the hell is krillin?
3. How dare they put an emo playing goku?
4. The CGI used for the power blasts are crap!
5. The dumb ass americans wouldn't let the maker of dragonball get involved????
Hello! am i the only one who realises what a waste of time this movie is. the only reason it got set back from august to april was because all the good movies are coming out in august and they dont want to be embarressed!
they should have never ever attemped this... i think the only thing good in it is that james marsters is playing king piccolo and you know thats going to be ace because he himself is a fan of dragonball
personally they really need to forget this movie and dont bother realising it at all

Well don't be so quick to make that kind of statement, Akira Toriyami already approved this, but he's too busy with his family, and that's why he set manga/anime making to the side for a while. I think the high school thing is so that the movie can fit into modern day life, but I myself agree that it's not the best of ideas, and don't judge the performance before you see it.

here are some more teaser posters:

from the bottom, I think the release date is Mar. 13/2009
