Slam Dunk is great. Its not just your average, unrealistic BS sports anime (e.g. Prince of Tennis. Everyone from that high skool league can single-handedly beat Federer).
From Slam Dunk, I learned basic basketball schemes/strategies/techniques like pick-n-roll, team help defense and box-out. The box-out position that akagi taught to sakuragi is indeed correct and thats what you are supposed to do in order to keep your man in front of you. Its a really educational anime for those new to basketball. Except for some inaccuracies (like how at the end of the game the losing team never intentionally fouls the opponent to stop the clock and instead "play with honour") Slam Dunk gives an accurate picture of what a basketball game looks like.
I watched Slam Dunk when i was10 or something, and started playing bball (much later though) using them. I think it was a fantastic anime becuz it got me all pumped up for basketball. Now Im both a fanatic anime and bball fan thanks to Slam Dunk. those are like two things i cant live without.

I was also into bball when I was in high school not due to MJ, but Slam Dunk. Gosh I was so skinny back then, weighting in at only 178lbs. Now that I'm into boxing and now MMA, I'm afraid of hurting someone in the paint if I ever pick up bball again. My pick n' roll is either picking them up by a brick wall(me), or rolling them over by a bulldozer(that's me again). Good thing there's always the street ball for guys like me.

damn lol dude Im just a short, 150 pounder point/shooting guard. Dude dont hurt me... You may break some of my bones. How tall are you anyway? Im only 5' 6". Most likely you are 6' +. Thank god I wont have to guard you.

I'm now @ 6' and weighting in 226lbs. I've been training in boxing first and then MMA for almost 9 years. And I've picked up power lifting for strengthening, core training for balance & stability, and interval running for cardiovascular conditioning along the way. I also use swimming and aquatics to train my extender muscle groups and balancing & stabilizing my posture. So you can say that my training program is very diverse and dynamic.

Like what I mean is did the anime songs or sports and fighting get you influenced to exercise or run because you got inspired by what you watched, or the anime songs made you dance alot because you liked the song and got you a few lbs off or even made you skinny?

or did it cause you to sit all the time at a computer and gain weight?

well for me it did both...

first I stopped playing and started watching anime (spent an entire summer indoors doing that) , then I gained weight (like 30 or 20 lbs) by sitting all day..

then I got influenced by the songs of anime and all the training from sports anime and lost a few lbs exercising...

Ah, anime and fitness, two of my favorite subjects in one topic, I guess you beat me to it.

I've been into health & fitness for more that 12 years, only half as long as I was into super robot anime for 24 years. And for myself, the super robot anime are the great motivators and ego boosts while I train in the gym, run on the track, work on the heavy bag, or just about anything I to be. The mental image of an invincible, titanic steel of power and strength took in a shape of a man, is just what I need to push myself harder for my ideal.

However, my fitness goal is not for me to be thin, not at all. At 31, I'm standing at 6' tall with 226lbs. of mostly bones and muscles mass. I can finish an mile under 7 minutes, with a resting heart rate of 46, and still coming up stronger every passing week!

Wow

thats pretty amazing!!!.... well, as for me I told my story.. but listening to anime music and watching all the sports anime makes me work harder (and thanks to the music I lost 10-20 lbs dancing to it every night before bed!) I am still working towards my goal,.. and so far have just joined the track team.... (but its hard to keep up) because our track team has won state titles for so many years in a row (20 to 30 banners) with state titles on them.. so it's hard to keep up .. but anime is strangely a good motivator

I am a health fanatic as well

well currently I am running cross country long distance and 5'4'' 116-117 lbs... used to be 113 lbs or somewhere around that area... I kind of need to lose a little more weight say 10-20 lbs (but i want to achieve that by healthy eating and exercise) in the past I was always dancing during the night time.. but all of a sudden it seems that I can't lose even a lb.. (and I have been exercising decently and not over eating recently..) I also don't eat less than I am suppose to..

any suggestions? thanks

Cross country is an endurance sport, so you'll need to use your slow-twitch and intermediate twitch muscles more than your fast twitch muscles. And you'll also need good cardiovascular to keep your energy up while maintaining your body's waste circulation so you won't get tired too quickly. I won't be worry about your weight too much if I were you, because after all, muscles are denser than fat. I have a 38" waist but I'm over 220lbs, and I can still run circles around most people. Let me know if you need more explanation on how to train the muscles groups that you need.

okay thanks!!
by the way i heard that if you did too much of muscular endurance (slow twitch muscles) , than your body will start burning muscule instead of fat (b/c during the work out all that it was burning was fat so ) in stead when resting it starts burning muscule...

I don't want to lost muscle... but not sure what to do..
