people love haruhi bcoz of her eccentric behaviour... and the Haruhi series sport a great storyline~ the ending song is only a reminder, or rather, the extras~

"The Dance. I actually learned how to do it, but for two reasons:
1) It looked like a lot of fun, and it actually got me off the damn computer once in a while.
2) . . . I can't think of another reason.
"For me, the anime is quite okay."

I personally love the dance, but I don't like the shjow...It was just over the top for me and *cough* I hate Haruhi...I mean she's super cute and all...But she's just really annoying...She be be doing hentai or something >_>
And I like the Luky Star opening but the anime was blah.

Haruhi was an anime aimed at the otaku crowd-- with its moe characters and numerous references and shout-outs to other show. The fact that it was able to appeal to people outside that circle can only be proof to how good it was.

Basically, it was a show that took various cliches and archetypes(murder mystery, spaceship battles, anime sports, cultural festivals, beach episode, impossibly cool fight scenes along with archetypal characters-- all of them are textbook examples of whatever they are), used them, and made them look pretty damn good. The dancing theme was just one of them.

Oh, ok I think I get it now. So the show is basiclly making fun of over-used cliches?

I watched the anime and then found out about the dance months later because of a friend. So for me it was anime first.

The dance is really cool though.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: i may be oversimplifying this but haruhi is basically a love story. and i'm not really into love stories i'm more the senseless action kind of guy (GURREN LAGANN FTW) but haruhi reallly mkaes it work with the most unique take on the genre. the "making fun of over-used cliches" is just a bonus. but be warned though, the best way to enjoy the series IMO is to watch the ORIGINAL DISORDERED arrangement of the episode (that's right the shows don't come 1-2-3 but 1-2-X) its it because haruhi wills it lol.
so watch it and be prepared to be entertained IMO

Lucky Star i like it although the first 10 episodes is as boring as hell so i skipped it. and your right they ARE always talking but they're talking about ANIME!!! that fact alone just blows my mind. however you have to be at least semi-otaku to really enjoy the series

Thank you for your kindness, it always helps to know that some people are too over-emotional and spam forums with useless pictures when their anime is talked upon.

Doesn't bother me though, because it's actually kinda cute.

"Making fun" isn't exactly how I'd put it. The show actually does those things quite awesomely-- awesome music, awesome visuals--, it's made of pure win.
