Some of the shop owners from where I'm at are easily persuaded given that you're an effective talker. I have tried haggling, and it oftentimes works. I don't insist a lot though, they might get cranky and won't sell me anything.

malaysians did it but in in supermarket or shopping complex. we did that in small stall beside the road. it's truly worth bcoz they always put a higher price than it should. sometimes u can get discount half of the price. but it's only available at stall or groceries, never try it at supermarket or shopping complex

Yep. He tried to give me more than a discount.
I was forced to give him a beat down.

meh just go to china you'll be amazed how they're doing it >__>

I haggled a newbie worker at china mcdonalds and he gave me discount on a mc chicken combo - it works xDDD

but yeah... in my home country (nz) hardly any people do it and i think its pretty embarassing... but once you're in china the situation turns right around ^^ haggling = normal in china because they hike up the prices so ppl hu dont know how to haggle end up paying so much more ahaha

This method only works, if your in a small family owned store, that doesn't have a mandatory set price for the products.

In a big department store, (like Sears, Wal-Mart, Best-Buy, Home Depot, etc.) this method is impossible.

I wouldnt say force!
But my dad when he bbuys like expensive things like cars/TV's/ect, he asks for discounts and you usually get them.
My mom asks for discounts on clothes, and they sometimes give =]

theres a quota that every salesperson has to meet, whether it be at an electronic store or the car dealership. yea, so haggling is better than not selling at all.
