Akihabara seems too weird for me. If I were to go there I'd have a look at the gadgets but even then I'm not really that interested. I saw a maid café at an event in London, the maids got on stage and started dancing to this extremely high tempo J-pop music - it was bizarre :D
I think it would be a waste to go there just for the anime and manga culture - or even pop culture as a whole - there's so much more to see. I find the traditional customs and holidays far more interesting. I'm hoping to take a trip there next year and see as much as I can. If I save up enough money I might even do a whole tour of Asia. I'd love to see Hong Kong, S. Korea and Thailand.

For me, anime is part of it. I want to visit the shops, and eventually do business in Japan. I recently had a dream about going to Japan. It was extremely vivid, so I think the time to plan a trip to Japan is soon.

I really don't want to because I can't speak Japanese. Plus I don't like the types of food they eat. I really enjoy their Anime though.

There's certainly nothing wrong with wanting to visit Japan just for the anime-- though of course there's much more about Japan to potentially enjoy besides anime too. There are companies that offer anime-themed tours, and I recall that recently some office in Japan (perhaps tourism ministry or something like that) actually published a map, with English language text, of various real-life places in Japan closely associated with recent popular anime series. You don't necessarily have to know any Japanese language to enjoy Japan (went on my own in 2007 knowing maybe only names of various sushi, and had a great time-- JPY114=US$1), but knowing some of the language certainly helps and can open up your experiences while there (went again in 2010, solo, after self-studying the language for a year, and had a great time again-- JPY87=US$1). A big problem now, at least for those in the U.S., is that the exchange rate is terrible and seemingly only getting worse-- JPY77=US$1 last I checked!
BTW, I went to a maid cafe also, in Akihabara, and enjoyed it a lot! It's just kitschy fun!

I would go only to shop for anime stuff and maybe to experience what it's like to be in a foreign country, otherwise I'm not all that interested in the culture, plus I dislike Japanese food and I'm not so captivated by the scenery.

I'd go if I had the chance, but it's not really a priority, or much of a fantasy.

Honestly I didn't care much about Japan before I got into anime.
Through anime I got to know about lot about Japanese people and their culture.
Now,that I know basic Japanese, I would love to visit Japan. not just to shop bag full of anime cds and eat rice balls, but to know more about the beautiful country its people and its history.
