Been there, done that, forgot to buy a t-shirt but bought just about everything else. Anime started me on my journey to Japan but using it at work was the reason I finally got to go there. Being able to work there, experience my own slice of Japanese life was great. I thought to myself on my way home that my life is complete; of course it wasn't really but that is how I felt at the time. The scenery, language, people, ramen, sushi, shabu shabu, okonomiyaki, yakitori, takoyaki, coffee in cans, beer vending machines, hostesses, semi no oto / cicada sounds, j-pop, Japanese TV, tea, castles, holding hundreds years old swords, sumo and judo and kendo, Shinjuku, Akihibara, anime, manga, cosplay, hanabi, gardens, trains, museums, sakaya, karaoke, geisha, maiko, Fujisan... Simply amazing and you have to experience it for yourself to appreciate it.
Would go back in a heartbeat...

I would of course want to explore more than just anime in japan. seeing a hot springs and checking out the main mountain would be cool and other sites. Going to one of the major cons might also be fun.

Yes, so much so that I'd first learn the language, then how to read and write, and then move there! <3
I love Japan, and it's people!

True, when I went to Japan I was too busy enjoying Japan to spend time watching anime and reading manga. Watched some late night shows after coming home from sakaya but I didn't even have time to read on the train as it was usually full and most times I was just on for a few stops before transferring to another line. Oh, before hanabi they often showed anime on a big screen as a preshow but sitting at home watching TV, are you kidding??? I was in Japan!!!
And I found it was still necessary to preorder manga, even in Tokyo. The first day stuff arrived it often sold out before I got to the honya. Good thing I didn't have much time to read there! Here back home I enjoy anime and manga to remind me of living in Japan...

At first, it was anime that inspired me to take a closer look at japan. After a while, i realised that i really liked the japanese culture and lifestyle, and have now decided that I will go to japan in the future.

I have spent alot of time in japan and I have to say that anime has nothing to do with Japan. I know, I know, that sounds ridiculous, but it is true. To those who have never been but want to for the anime need to understand that anime, and the entertainment from there in general is how that nation wishes it was. Japan, especially when you get out of Tokyo (shout out to Sasebo), is a wonder place. The people are kind and polite to a fault. However they are also major conformists, mostly out of social pressure to be so. They are beaten down by that system into being the type to take the safe path and not rock the boat. They wish they were wild, free, loud, and as confident as their entertainment is, but they are not. Not because they are cowards, but because they have so much to lose. Go to Japan if you want to see Japan, but don't go if you want to see Anime/Jpop/TvTokyo land as you will be disappointed.

Anime just gave me another reason to want to visit Japan.
I have some family who ran a missionary in Japan for 20 years who moved back here in 2006. It was always interesting to listen to their stories about them converting people to Christians when they were in Japan over the phone. Many in my family had visited their missionary over the years, but I still have not had a chance to visit their specific missionary myself (Its suppose to be very active) and basically lost my "I'm family so let me in card" since they moved back to the states.
But thats ok, there are other parts of the Country more interesting.

No, I'm not only interested in anime, but in Japan in general. Because I am a Martial Artist, I have always been extremely fascinated by the Samurai and I would love to go to Japan to learn about the Samurai and how to fight like them. Obviously, I would go to Tokyo, Harajuku, etc. But anime wouldn't be my only reason for visiting.
