Singlish

Is "Singlish" a real language?

Seems like I keep running into people from Singapore on here so I thought I better read up on Singapore. While doing so I started doing a little reading on Singlish which I find kind of interesting since it mixes features of English and Chinese:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singlish

Some examples of Singlish from the Wikipedia page:

* Dis country weather very hot one. — In this country, the weather is very warm.
* Dat person there cannot trust. — That person over there is not trustworthy.
* Tomorrow dun need bring camera. — You don't need to bring a camera tomorrow.
* He play soccer also very good one leh. — He's very good at playing soccer too.

I find the use of Chinese grammar and particles and English words rather interesting since I'm learning Chinese. I have to wonder if the language is similar to what people are supposed to really be speaking in the rather short-lived Firefly sci-fi TV show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_%28TV_series%29).

You tend to learn some Singlish while playing MapleSea.
I cant believe you can actually find "Singlish" in Wikipedia.

Hmm, Singlish's alright. I use them everyday when talking with my mates. Otherwise, I'll use normal English.

Well, it's something that's studied as a creole language in linguistics. I doubt that anyone teaches "Singlish classes" or anything (am I wrong?) but it does have specific grammatical properties though many seem to be optional if what I'm reading is correct.

There are pages on similar things:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American_Vernacular_English
I can't seem to find a good article on how to talk like a redneck though.
(These are dialects though since they didn't develop as a combination of languages.)

Um...I don't speak it, but, I wouldn't say this but people in my class would, they would refer to it as "Bad English" Not to offend anyone or anything..

Most Singaporeans can switch from Singlish to proper English, so there's no need to worry
