im japanese and at least i learnt to speak english well, fucking morons learn english the proper way.

learn english the proper way? hello, we learnt it the proper way! are you insulting that our english is not proper enough? maybe its because you are jealous that you cant speak it?

singlish is not for ppl who cant speak proper english. i can speak proper english or type or write it, if i want to, but i prefer speaking in singlish because its just so much more like me.

and if you cant understand, its obviously you are not a singaporean, and its quite easy to spot out singaporeans, and people, dun try to emphasise your singlish because its kinda weird and it doesn't sounds like singlish. it sounds like someone trying to speak singlish, but failed.

singlish is obviously so called "bad english." but we still use it because its like how we use to communicate. is like computer language/short forms : lol, omg, w8,cuz,wad ,brb, afk . etc... if we use either type of language to write an essay for an exam we're probaly gonna fail.

Ah, but guess what? English probably started out this way too. The only real difference between a "language" and a "dialect" is that a language has a grammar book and a dictionary, and some institutions to "defend" a standard.

And note that it's not just "bad english", it's actually a combination of English, Chinese, and some other languages.

So, get someone to write a Singlish grammar book, dictionary, and form an organization that can standardize it, and there you have it... a language.

Considering how many people speak Chinese and how powerful China may become, I almost wonder if everyone on earth might one day speak something like Singlish. Not to confuse it with reality or something, but in Firefly (TV show that the movie Serenity was based on) the "alliance" flag is a combination of the US and PRC flags, the assumption being that China and the US started colonizing space, then at some point formed a unified government. People in the show switch from English to Chinese occasionally (usually switching to Chinese to insult people as it helps to obscure the profanity from viewers). I have to wonder if they're really supposed to be speaking something like Singlish the whole time (even though the dialogue is in standard English.)

oh and by the way there is a book teaching english here in singapore xD

I'm Singaporean and I speak both Singlish and English.

By the way, Singlish is not only spoken by bad English-speaking Singaporeans. It's just a faster way of communication.

eg: I need to go to the toilet.

Normal: Excuse me, I need to go to the washroom.
Singlish: Sorry, I go toilet ar.

eg: I need to order something.

Normal: Can I have a double cheeseburger without lettuce?
Singlish: (Point at cheeseburger picture) give me this...no lettuce.

Aaah... Singlish -- the definitive guide to understanding a native singaporean.. Basically a rojak (or tossed salad) of English, Chinese and Malay. We have such diverse ethnic groups that sing- lish becomes a lifestyle; bearing in mind that English is our first language with Chinese, Malay and Tamil as second language. 'Sides, each of us in our native country is sure to have their very own mix of 'english'. Personally (no offense to others - just my own opinion), I think singlish is such a brand name in itself b'coz our government made such emphatic moves for us to speak the Queen's english or proper english (e.g. the speak good english campaign) Be it crude language or whatever you might call it, it's just another form of English on this side of the world.

Hardly speak singlish unless i'm in the mood for casual talk and fun with my friends!

Whenever i speak proper english, the entire sentence structure appears very lifeless unless i throw in some sarcasm.
So ye,singlish helps to add emotions.
