Actually, with the fact that the laws prohibits humans from mistreating animals already give them their rights. True, it is indirect, but that is their right. It became their right not to be abused and the right of them to be protected. At the same time, it is a prohibition to the humans. Of course, that prohibition also implies indirectly that they have the right to live; just like how humans have an inalienable right to live. Well, at least based on my country's Constitution.

Well I kind of agree, since I don't know anything about the law in your country. But I do know that it is forbidden in my country to harm or kill an animal "without good reason". Don't ask me what that a "good reason" might be. Ironically the word reason returns Technically they still don't have "rights", but ok after all what does it matter?

It does not really matter. Just bored. It did kill about 15 minutes! But yeah, it is dependent on one's culture and country.

Yes.
To kill animals for pleasure or to torture them is a crime. To make other creature suffer for nothing is a crime. "Nothing" means that is not important to your immediate survival.

Of course animals have rights. T-T

I mean, seriously, where would we be without the animals?
The correct answer would probably be:
Nowhere.

We have to show our respects for them.

Plus:
Animals have feelings.
They feel joy, they feel sorrow...
Just because they're not EXACTLY the same as us, it doesn't mean that they're nothing.

And in some ways, animals are in fact SUPERIOR to us "humans". >.>

If animals weren't meant to be eaten than why did they have to taste so good?

Turkey, fish, chicken and cows were put on this earth for a reason: to be eaten. There's nothing in the Bible that says it's wrong (yes, I said the Bible), but I believe that hunting animals just for fun or sport maybe a little bit cruel.

we humans should push through with defending animal rights. if we continue to abuse and exploit our animals, we are even lesser than those creatures we think are lesser than us.

I hate the fact that animal lovers think it's cruel to test things on animals, it's only for the safety of us humans.
Lets take Thalidomide as an example, this drug was taken by pregnant women across the world during the 1950's and 60's. It was said to help with morning sickness - but who would have guessed this would effect on the lives of thousands of babies? The consumption of this drug caused ten thousand babies to born with disabilities and deformities.

Why did this happen? Because there were no legal requirement to test drugs on pregnant animals before they weren given to humans. It would have been "animal cruelty". If they did, those ten thousands of babies wouldn't have had to suffer...

Therefore, humans have rights over animals.

Obviously animals deserve rights, but not the same as humans.

Animals are their to provide resources for us, like milk, eggs, meat, etc. They are no where near human level of rights, that would be ridiculous. They do need rights to protect them from abuse.

Yeah, like dogs getting beaten up by their owners. Not nice
But when it comes to testing drugs and things, we have to.

"But nothing is more valuable than a human life. "

I don't understand your thinking here. How is a human life more valuable than another animals, like a cat, or a lizard? How can we even decide that?

"which is that PETA proportioned ideas about animals being likened to humans are absolutely ridiculous."

It only seems ridiculous to people because we so easily look down on animals. We can't communicate properly with other animals either, which makes it harder for us to understand them or relate to them. I don't agree with all of PETA's petitions and what not, but I don't agree with your reasoning either.

It's ignorant to think we are the highest power in the animal kingdom, as though we own the Earth. Without the other animals we would not survive, you sound a bit like a dictator. We are animals too and we share this Earth, all animals have prey and predators, no? If we were at the top of the food chain and such, we would not be killed nor eaten by any other animal, to my understanding. If this is what you mean, then it's wrong. We can be killed by mere germs and diseases, so tiny yet so deadly. What eats us? Well, when we are dead we are easily eaten by tiny maggots and other bugs. Makes us sound a little pitiful. On that note of predators, sharks and crocs eat humans too. Although according to this article it's mainly Tiger Sharks:
http://www.elasmo-research.org/education/topics/saf_eating_humans.htm

But that's still a predator, correct? If that's the case we aren't at the top. And so we are not more valuable than other animals. Just because we build cars, and are considered smarter than other animals doesn't make us better. If anything we are worse, ruining the environment and wasting the resources.

PETA = People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

Ethics = Science of morals; Philosophical study of proper conduct and living.

Animals = Does not possess philosophy or Science.

QED, "PETA" is a very stupid oxymoron. If you're going to complain about humans killing animals all "unethically" and blah blah blah, go watch a cat hunt down a mouse or a lion rip the throat of a gazelle. Come back to me after you've escaped your sheltered bullshit and pathetic life. I may even give you a pat on the back.
