Many people will ask what this is...Furigana is when Hiragana is written small next to a Kanji or Katakana character to show how that character is read.

Its good for those learners only knowing some Katakana and Kanji. You see the Hiragana above Katakana or Kanji. You could get a Furigana book in a bookstore and there be examples in it (taken from what my Japanese teacher said to me).



See the example? 振り仮名 There's 3 Kanji on the screen with fu (ふ) ga (が) and na (な) above them in a smaller font size. Hiragana ri ( ) is there and thats why there's nothing above it or...that be POINTLESS since its already in Hiragana! XD

I thought that was like that when I would try (attempt) to sound out the kanji. Thanks for the verification. =)
