i just noticed the only person mentioning old school rappers is helasick....

which brings me to ponder.......

How old is old school???

we are in the 3rd generation of hip hop now.... to some of these kids nowadays... Dr. Dre, 2pac, Biggie, even Nas are old school rappers.... just look at the souljaboy / ice-T thing...

Any thoughts???? opinions????

KRS-One has brought this up once when he and Soulja Boy were interviewed on BET one time. The scale goes like this.........

1st generation: KRS-One, Cannibus, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Flash, Fab Five Freddy, Eric B. & Rakim, Beastie Boys, Sugarhill Gang, etc.

2nd generation (that generation I'm a part of...and most of the people on this site): N.W.A., Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg*, Tupac, Notorious BIG, Jay Z*, Big L, Nas, DMX, Common, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Fabolous*, Ja Rule*, 50 Cent*, Diddy, Mase, Busta Rhymes, Black Rob, Ludacris*, Method Man, EPMD, etc.

3rd generation (these punkass kids' fucked up generation): Lil Jon, Dem Franchise Boyz, Webbie, Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, D4L, Shawty Lo, Lil Wayne*, T.I., Yung Joc, Mike Jones, Mims, Maino, Young Jeezy, Ron Browz, etc.

*artists that are relevant in both 2nd and 3rd generations

That's basically the landscape of hip hop for the past 20-30 years........notice how the quality of hip hop music made a dramatic drop between the 2nd and 3rd generations. It's amazing though. from generation 1 to 2 the quality of hip hop music got better........but then it str8 up sucked ass when we ended up to this generation. I would like to know how that fucked up changing trend occured, and I would like to know from a motherfucker from this generation that listens to that shit.

Idk man this third generation is NO HIP HOP... its Clubbing SHit

THe Third generation is already on the way for a long time since from like 96/97 .. Things like Beat Junkies.. Afu Ra... Dilated ppl Grap Luve.. Asheru and so on and on....

THIS:
u]3rd generation (these punkass kids' fucked up generation): Lil Jon, Dem Franchise Boyz, Webbie, Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, D4L, Shawty Lo, Lil Wayne*, T.I., Yung Joc, Mike Jones, Mims, Maino, Young Jeezy, Ron Browz, etc.

IS NO HIP HOP

The Second Generation ('88-'96) is most interresting as u naming ppl like Ja Rule.. 50 Cents.... Ludacris .. imo that is newschool mostly more listened after 96..... But these are too comercialised guys and do not give a good vieuw of what the so called 2nd generation as they call THE GOLDEN AGE....

That were the big days of good REAL hip hop groups as: Indeed Tribe Called Quest.......Artifacts........ OGC......Cella Dwellas ... Big Daddy Kane .. Eric B and RAkim.... Pete Rock & Cl Smooth......Group Home... Jeru The Damaja So on and on see this really were the good stuffs around

The first generation had maybe big daddy kane in it but then prob when he was still with the Juice Crew...
LL cool j and such i would also put in the golden age as he wasnt very busy untill end 80's when old school was almost done :p...
Old school imo is more stuff as 2live Crew..... Old Ice T .. FAb five... Grand Master FLash and so on....
So most guys u name in Old School are more Golden age artists... compare the styles then ull hear the difference

There is still hip hop but the commercial Pop hop is blurring a lot of ppls Visions about hip hop

My english still isnt the best so i hope its a bit clear and if u have some questions just ask me :p

Lupe aint underrated anymore... its just some ppl dont like him cuz all they listen too is bullshit radio... Lupe got mad respect world wide since he dropped the cool

I still don't think Lupe gets the recognition that he deserves. Not many people know about him. People still think of Superstar and Go Baby not any of his other tracks. I really hope LUPEnd isn't his last album.

LUPEnd is still his last album............with that being said, Lupe said in a recent interview that his next album WILL NOT BE "LUPEnd."

Lupe says his next album will be "The Great American Rap Album" (genius title), and he will release 2 more albums after that between now and 2010. After that, he will release LUPEnd..............therefore, he's not done yet. Thank god
