i am talking about han chinese not taiwanese aborigines in general..so the culture and language is the same. Of couse there will be slighty different from mainland after they seperated for so long...and due to local cultural influence.

What? the majority of "Han Chinese" that migrated to Taiwan before WWII DO NOT speak Mandarin, and Mandarin is not even a Han language at all. After Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Japanese rules (not to mention the native Formosan languages), Taiwanese is no long the same language that it was 400 years. Same goes with the culture. Do you even speak Taiwanese at all?

possession of a Han surname by aborigines was considered to be a sign of being civilized, in part because adoption of a Han surname meant that that person was now entered into the population registration books and could be taxed.Possession of a Han surname, then, could confer a broad range of significant economic and social benefits upon Aborigines. most of the lowland aboriginal tribes assimilated with the Han immigrants, and eventually no longer saw themselves or were seen as a distinct population.

Heh, there you go, a good portion of aborigines are basically educated or converted into believing they are Han Chinese.

You are saying that han are cunning race? For a few decades in the first half of the 20th century under Japanese rule, a strict policy was put in place to quickly assimilate the island's inhabitants en masse by instituting Japanese names. These names were generally abandoned in Taiwan after 1945 when Japanese rule ended. Japanese policy, published twenty years before the onset of their rule on Taiwan, cast Taiwanese Aborigines as “vicious, violent and cruel” and concluded “this is a pitfall of the world; we must get rid of them all” so do you consider that cunning too?

"Vicious, violent and cruel" is cunning? I don't understand what you are getting at. They are vicious to the Japanese because Japanese came to Taiwan with guns and ammo, of course they fight back. In fact, a lot of population fought back, but aborigines are difficult for Japanese handle because the japanese aren't used to fight in the jungle and at the Taiwanese terrain. That's why Aborigines seem so much more vicious to the Japanese.
Early Chinese immigrants didn't use guns and ammo to deal with Taiwanese natives, Aborigines were slowly lied to and cheated out of their lands. I don't understand where your comparison comes in.
btw, Japanese did not institute Japanese names on Taiwanese until toward latter part of their occupation.

after qing dynasty, there are women who migrated there too.
Really? Chinese immigrating to become a Japanese? you really believe there are a lot of those? heh.

The Taiwanese government has recently let people change their names back to their aboriginal tribal names. (which i think they really should regain their original name)
I agree with that. But like I've been saying, majority are not even aware of who they are anymore.

Taiwan, rather, the REPUBLIC OF CHINA is a separate country from the People Republic of China, with its own Constitution, law, government, &c. &c. Until Nixon found an ally in China, the communist government was not even recognised as the true government of China by the United States. Taiwan, in addition, believes themselves to be the ligament government of China, whose government was usurp by the Communist, while the mainland refuse to accept Taiwan as the seat of the ligament government in exile, and proclaim that they are joined together in some 'One China, Two Policies' scheme as with HK. The history behind it is all very confusing, but, if you would like me to give my watered down and semi-bias version of it, I would gladly.

Which is the legitimate government of China? Would you say that the government based in Taiwan is the legitimate government in exile, or would you say that of the Communist government of Beijing is the true government of China? Thus, it is not a question of whether Taiwan is part of China, which it is, cuturally and politically, but which government is the legitimate government.

Both governments claim that they are the true Government of China, so, in that sense, both are saying that Taiwan is indeed part of China. It had been and always will be. The difference between the two nation is which government is legitimate, the Communist, who, they claim, usurp the their control over the mainland, or democratic government?

Nope, well.. technically they used to be until they gain independence from China.

They did not gain 'independence' from China, rather, the other government of China fled to their last stronghold after being ousted from the mainland. Both parties still contend that they are the legitimate government of China.

well....i wish taiwan government had couragement to officially declear that taiwan is a country, rather than a unclear region ,just like u guys sayin here...but they will never do so,bcz taiwan leader dare not to make a potential wrong decision..so this place will keep unclear for a long while...
but if they do so, then the mainland of china would take military action to stop this step truely happened without any delay and will end this domestic war in 24 hours(u never know how powerful china troop is)...i believe jap and usa will not take this risk to assist taiwan militaryly, the result is taiwan becomes part of china, just like handreds years ago. problem solved...
so taiwan has NO possibility to be independent, reason is so simple, taiwan is too small, china is too big.,and china has reason to fight for taiwan.

i understand why taiwan people dont wanna their own land ocuppied by china,if i am taiwanese, i would say no ..but i am a chinese, so i say yes...you know, this answer is decided by history, not us...
by the way,i wish the domestic war which was taken place in 1949 was winned by guo-min-dang....Communist Party is good at fighting ,but not good at building up our great country- CHINA .

BTY, taiwan people is nice, but taiwan government sucks.....taiwan should declare that mainland of china belongs to taiwan government as well...but they even dont have such spirit...well,so china wins again.

send me email if you have somethng to say..

Taiwan cannot be an independent country, mainly because its government claims legitimacy. If they were to usurp that position, then their raison d'etre is gone. The KMT would no longer be the party that liberated China and set up the Chinese Republic, and the Government would not be the Republic of China, founded by the great Sun Yat-Sen. They lose almost everything if they went out and said, 'We're not China, we're Taiwan'
