taiwan is definitely it's own country!!!
taiwan is not communist while China is
taiwan has it's own government that's free to do as it wishes; if china were to take over, then taiwan would most likely be communist too :(

Taiwan is part of China! It may not be communist, because it is the REPUBLIC OF CHINA, created by the great SUN YAT SEN. It is cuturally Chinese! Its people all speak Taiwanese or Mandarin, both varients of the language CHINESE. Its government was even acknowledge as the legitmimate government of CHINA by several nations.

i don't know if anyone has already posted this answer

neither, because this is a Chinese problem of ownership and recognition, although the people of Taiwan claim to be independent or mainland china claims they, it is clear that they have their differences, but in the international community, in able to qualify as a sovereign state, the state needs recognition from other states, ......but Taiwan doesn't have the recognition..for instance they are not part of the United Nations.

But yet they have their own passport and Olympic team and they are recognized by the world there, but its just a hard question, and no matter how individuals may personally feel about it, my answer is that Taiwan is not a sovereign state, but at the same time they don't belong to mainland China either, and the United States has promised to back Taiwan in an attack (from outsider forces), so its a little on the weird side.

China....Mainland Chinese, Taiwanese, oversea Chinese. In between these Chinese groups all have their own of views how a China was formed. So in return each group of Chinese view each other liked a foreign group. I consider myself a Chinese but my root is not there. It's a tangled issue hard to digest even for the Chinese ownselves.

I don't know...I'm confused because all of my Taiwanese classmates say that China and Taiwan aren't the same and my dad's old co-worker said "I'm Taiwanese...or Chinese, what's the difference?" So yeah...
But my dad says that it's technincally still part of China because it's called the Republic of China.

^By that logic, America should still be with Britain, but it isn't.

I voted no. But the debate can go on forever. The 'legitimate' government is meaningless if it really holds no power over Taiwan. The government that is actually governing is the only thing that matters. If the Chinese government does not hold a monopoly over the use of political violence in Taiwan, then China obviously has no power over Taiwan, and is it thus useless to say that China is the 'legitimate' owner of Taiwan. If Taiwan was China's, it would be acceptable to send peacekeepers or a military or police force to maintain order and loyalty to China through violence, but it isn't.

All China has been doing is slowly bullying Taiwan into submission. It's aiming over 200 missiles at Taiwan, for crying out loud. It's a barbaric, savage, uncivilized, and immature way of claiming a land that does not belong to them. China has simply been saying "I'm more powerful than you" to Taiwan, and other nations don't want to stand up to China because of its economic importance. It's not valid to say Taiwan is not independent just because most countries do not recognize it to be. It's easy to threaten someone to make them say what you want, which is what China is doing, but that does not make what they say the truth.

Go Taiwan!
