This thread is not directly about rather or not a woman should have the right of an abortion. Personally, I think it’s acceptable only in cases of rape-which constitute less than one percent of the abortions attained. Alas, the question at hand is rather or not a court should be allowed to force an abortion. What if, for example, a man was raped in his sleep?

The woman wants to keep the child and demand child support. The man cannot afford child support; he’s an eighteen year old in a highly competitive line of work. Let’s also say that he was due to be married and had spent his whole life saving his innocence for marriage.

To add an extra detriment to this hypothetical example, let’s say he also works in public relations. In order to succeed in his career he must be perceived as a good, mature, and responsible man. A good, mature, and responsible man doesn’t just pay child support. He’s active in his child’s life.

The man decides that he’s too emotionally distraught to care for the child, and too financially insecure to support it. Should the court be allowed to require the woman to abort the fetus why or why not?

Now this puts people like me in a tricky position. On one hand I’m against abortion. I think that it essentially amounts to forcibly making somebody rely on your for survival and then refusing to provide. It’d be like if I kidnapped you and then drained some of your blood. I then attached a cord form my wrist to yours, that provided you with blood so that you could survive as long as I kept that cord attached for so long.

If I remove that cord too early you’ll die. Naturally it is inconvenient for me to be stuck to you, dizzy from giving blood, probably puking, and possibly fainting. (I get very nauseous at the sight of my own blood.) Still, it’d be a violation of your rights. I would’ve chosen of my own volition to make you dependent upon me and then promptly refused to provide. It’s a lot like marrying a woman the instant she gets into the world, never letting her work, and then divorcing her when she’s fifty seven.

Now you have an old lady with no resources, no job experience, and no ability to function in society without you. Naturally, our courts protect the rights of these women, why not fetuses? Because they’re not human? I totally agree, but the law makes no distinction and science contradicts.

On the flip side I’m also outraged that father’s have absolutely zero say. We as a nation weren’t given a choice. America was AGAINST abortion. Statistics of the time of Roe V. Wade make it very clear that the American people did not want abortion to be legalized. The Supreme Court-a body of officials who are appointed and not elected-made that decision.

So, what’s your take?

Can't he just not pay child support? If he was raped (don't know how that would happen while he's asleep...) then he should press charges against her, and rape should be a good enough reason for him to not pay.

I get what you mean. No, in this case no abortion either. This is what I would expect to happen.

1) wait for the baby's birth
2) Have the baby given up for either A) adoption or b) Another member of the mothers family who is willing to fully support the child
3) The women would be sent to jail for rape
4) the father is not obliged to pay child support, they may consider it like he donated sperm anonymously and so he doesn't have to pay child support
5)everyone moves on with life

I don't think abortion should be considered even if it is a fetus, a fetus is still has fully functioning organs, so in a way, it is human within its own right.

it is always up to the woman to decide rather or not to abort a fetus for it is she who would be giving birth to it.

therefore, it is obvious that a man have no say.

if a man was raped and the woman wants to keep the child, the man should have the choice of saying that his sperm is like those of the sperm bank and he holds no connection whatsoever with the child. it is entirely up to the woman to decide.

if woman decided to give birth, she should have the means of supporting the child. if not, it should be forcefully aborted as we already have over 6billion humans on earth. having one more child to be in poverty and having us to feel their pain is the results of all these human foolish actions. therefore, better to kill a fetus (afterall, it is but sperm and eggs...) than to wait for it to become more human and then kill it (it would feel better to end a life early).

if the woman have the means of supporting the child, the man should be able to pursue a lawsuit of rape against her. though it is common that most males wont do so since males usually gain pleasure from sexual actions but if the male did file a lawsuit of rape, the woman should have an off-court settlement with the male.

with everything done, we would either have 1 less human (everyone happy) or one more human (ahh, less room for everyone)

1. You no more deserve to take up space on earth than the fetus in question. So what makes it okay for you to hypothetically sentence the fetus to death for doing the same thing you're doing?

2. That's an interesting choice of words: "become more human". It's ironic because you said that the fetus is not human, and that phrase indicates that the fetus was human to begin with.

1. are you telling me that you would rather have the fetus be born and then survive in a living hell?.. rather cruel, arent you?

2. what i mean is that a fetus at first is but egg and sperm, and over time, it turns more and more into a human and eventually would come out as a baby.

sux for him, life isn't always perfect.

of course whatever he wants is his choice but as for me, i don't think i'd be able to live with the conscience of a dead baby on my mind, especially if im "perceived as a good, mature, and responsible man"

Ah if it isn’t the stereotypical liberal approach. Compensate for a lack of real argument by trying to twist words and cast out personal insults.

ohh, is that so? let me ask, if you stand in my shoes then what would you do? is my responses not accurate? i speak but the truth yet you dare say i lack a real argument and is using twists of words.

i believe youre a anti-abortion kind of person. so let me ask, we already have a mass amount of human in our world with tons of problems caused by them. why give birth to more and increase the mass and problems before we can solve the problem at our hand at the moment? if a fetus (or human for you) life worth so much, why is it that war and diseases kill off millions of us and you do nothing? why is it that animals go extinct and you do nothing? do you think that your sorrow would change anything? do you think that donating 1 dollar to some kid in africa would help them from their poverty?

we can not solve the problems when we are increasing more problems. ignorant people like you dont think of the future besides what you prefer.

Who says I do nothing? You have no idea what you’re talking about. Seriously, you don’t even know me. I could be Mother Teresa.
